To finally wrap up the USA travel series we wanted to talk about what we love and hate about America. We had such a blast on the road trip around California and the South West but wanted to talk about the difference in language with sarcasm and those bloody LA drivers.
This is the final travel video in the Brits in America series. Thanks for watching/ We loved the van life and hope to return to it soon.

⭐ About Travel Beans:
Welcome to the official Travel Beans KZbin channel! On this channel, you’ll find a variety of travel and vlog content, in which you’ll see us in places like Thailand, Japan, USA, Slovenia, and more.
In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

The US is a big country, and I think things like sarcasm are regional. I live in the Midwest, near a rustbelt city (Detroit) and sarcasm is a common form of humor. My younger son went to college in South Carolina and noticed how they didn't get his sarcastic humor there.

@@afcgeo882 Sadly, the gain is a win for the "me first" mentality. I guess when someone spends an hour or more a day commuting, they see the lane changer only as someone who might shave a couple seconds off their fastest commute time. I found you guys by accident. You and your videos are great. But also I love hearing your British accents. I and my wife used to travel (and camp)all over on our sidecar rig. About 35 years ago we met Pam and Trev at a National Sidecar Rally. They were officers in your sidecar club, and they came over to attend a Rally over here. My wife and I loved their sense of humor and their accents. We've been friends ever since. We have visited back and forth since. You guy's remind me of the good old days, and our friends. AL

People naturally respond to this, especially us yanks who are by nature a bit more enthusiastic and effusive than our British cousins. Also, you wisely decided to do the camper van thing which really is the best way to see America. I hope you have many more wonderful trips here. I'm from nw UK and quite a few years back did a USA coast to coast road trip using driveaways. Basically it's delivering cars or trucks but it's more like free car rental. I found the inland part of the states with a few exeptions quite odd. There were a lot of inside out (for want of a better term) towns. Where nothing goes on in the town itself. All the bars n shops n stuff are in a belt around the town. Winchester being a good example. We hit town 5pm on a Friday thinking great.. Beer time. Place was a ghost town. Drive to outskirts of town and its all chains, like taco Bell.. But at least there were people there.

As for sarcasm, I grew up appreciating British humor so maybe a lot of that sarcasm rubbed off on me. One of the reasons I love your channel so much is the mix of Emma's cheerful outlook, Alex's sarcastic humor, and the loving banter between the two of you. That and Alex's endless search for a hotdog he can tolerate eating....By the way I LOVE most hot dogs, especially cooked on a stick at a campfire. But I did get one of my only cases of food poisoning after eating a suspicious looking hot dog at an airport one night (BAD idea, but I was hungry).

I grew up in Los Angeles and drove there for 11 years before moving up to Northern California. I hated L.A. drivers then and I still break out into a cold sweat whenever I visit and have to drive there (although SF Bay Area drivers have gotten pretty bad too). As for changing lanes without signalling, if you signal a lane change what you're doing is telling the people around you to speed up and pass you because they don't want yet ANOTHER person in front of them because it might slow them down by a precious 30 seconds or so. But if you just sneak into a lane quickly, maybe even as you're turning on your signal, you've tricked them into letting you into THEIR lane before they know what has happened. Not that I would EVER do that, I'm just commenting for a friend....

We visited England back in 1967, My dad had this left hand drive VW van, and had to get used to driving on the left side of the road. When he wanted to pass a truck in front of us, he had to ask my mom sitting on the other side if it was safe. We asked a guy directions on a place to camp, so he was going to ride with us. I thought he was going to drive , wooops !! There were no camp fires allowed in England or anywhere else in Europe. My worst experience in England was a tea time, when I spilled very hot tea all over my bare legs. I was wearing shorts. No fault of the British though.

Our pet peeves for USA are tips and prices + tax, which you just have to completely take a guess at! We have been travelling around US a lot and those 2 things never get easier. I disagree with you about the driving though. We have actually been telling everyone what good and polite drivers the Americans are, including in Los Angeles :) We didn't even find overtaking and undertaking much of a problem, mainly because we drive slow, really slow, so it was much more comfortable for us to have other cars just go around us, instead of sitting at our boot and trying to push us or ram us in the back as you get here in the UK and, even worse, in the rest of the Europe. And whenever we indicated to change lane, the cars around reacted and allowed us to do so. But really great video, guys, and the sarcasm was so funny! You should look at Canada for an RV trip too, we absolutely loved it there!

Having been to England at least a dozen times (I am from the USA, wife is from the Midlands, we live in the USA) I find it absolutely hilarious when walking on the pavement (sidewalk) in England and as people walk towards us I say "Wazzup or How Goes It or How's it going". They generally look at me like I have 2 heads. lol But, you are correct, people in the USA will almost always say hello and of course when they hear your English accent be prepared for a million questions, lol. If I tried to strike up a conversation in England I would say most that live in large cities, might give a stare then walk away. Where as most people in a small village or in the countryside would gladly have a conversation.

I think it’s great that Alex especially, is so sarcastic! Very refreshing because we seem to take things so seriously and defensive in American culture! Lol I myself had to chillax and go with the flow a bit more and you guys are so nice and hilarious! Alex included lol!!!! Love you beans!

The other perspective on this is that the UK is notorious for dry, sarcastic humour. That is not a world standard, at all. The English are extreme with their sarcasm, not the average.

I wonder if those who seemed not to understand your sarcasm were being sarcastic themselves. I hope they didn’t think Walt Disney made the rocks in the 50s. Come back and visit the East. The Adirondack Park in NY is bigger than the three largest national parks combined. Finally. Give the UK some credit for diversity. The Lake Country is unlike London which is unlike the Scottish highlands which doesn’t have the Giants Causeway like N. Ireland. Keep traveling and taking us along. Thanks.

My own driving experience across the states is similar. LA is crazed! Other states have a quite courteous driving habits. True in other countries as well, however. Ireland is great, Rome is frightening... interesting to think whether this says anything important (once you park) about the culture you are in?

I always thought Americans don’t get irony more than sarcasm, until I saw Curb your Enthusiasm acted and written by Larry David who also wrote Seinfeld, great American comedy’s imo!

Never had the McGriddle thing. Next time, get a Sausage McMuffin. Sausage patty, fried egg, cheese between two English muffins (I think you call them crumpets). A Santa Barbara McDonald's owner wanted a way to simulate Eggs Benedict as fast food. Not the result, but still nice.

As an American and more importantly a Californian I’d like to say all of your observations are CORRECT! Don’t EVER drive in California when it’s raining! We still all drive 80 mph and crash into each other. Sarcasm is my greatest form of communication. 😜 Don’t ever change, you 2 are brilliant!

Guys, I live in Los Angeles and traffic 'drives' (wink, wink) us Angelinos crazy too. One must be aggressive in one's travels only because of the shear number of vehicles on the roads at the same time. If one is too timid one would never reach their destination in a timely manner. I lived in London for 5 years in the 1980-1990's when Wimpy's , at that time known as Wimpy Burgers... were a horrid horrid food choice as some of the Mc Donalds are now in the US. Love your vlogs and yes we do get your sarcasm, but most oft times are doing a mental "eye roll- Oh brother SMH" in response.👍💓🇺🇸💓👍

there's a big difference between hot dog sausage and bratwurst just check it out look it up What's the difference between hot dogs and bratwurst? Most commonly, hot dogs are made with pork, beef, or chicken. Bratwurst is made with pork, beef, or veal and the meat is typically fresher and more pure. ... Hot dogs are emulsified into a paste, making them smoother. Brats are less finely grounded, giving them a coarser texture and heavier quality.and we have breakfast sausage that's made just from pork

You HATE something about America?? Let me guess - the hotdogs? You can only get "good" hotdogs at Hockey games, or the State Fair. The rest of them are crap. Don't worry, Alex - the non pc-group among us, does understand you. And agreed - the drivers here are horrid. Would you ever consider coming to Alaska? I'd just like to tell you both, I love your channel. You seem so genuine, and funny/witty. So thank you, for posting your videos~!

Thanks so much! We would LOVE to come to Alaska! The only obstacle is the cost, as usual. So it may not be soon but I'm certain we will make it there in the future.

I agree with you that LA drivers have no manners, they are so rude, but many other places like Arizona are very polite drivers. Most of the people that are proud in the USA have never been anywhere else in the world, but the people who travels outside the US are not. Alex don’t let the stupid comments get under your skin. And Emma I’ll say it again and again you are so beautiful spirit and I love your laughter.
