Her TED talk is one of my all time favorites. She is such a kind and compassionate human being. You have to go watch her in "What my religion really says about women". You'll change your perspective about many fixed ideas we westerners have.

So many of the religious values that people are holding onto are about protecting something personal like our place of belonging or heritage. So instead of fighting them it’s wiser to ask them how they came to these religious conclusions. So they can undo their own misconceptions or maybe you will learn that you were wrong instead 😊💕

The question about who inspires us as leaders, and her questioning his, some of us don't or didn't have anyone as leaders growing up and probably still don't, which is why as adults we look to others and not families bc they weren't there for most people.

Amazing conversation...as usual. I always wonder why channels like this one aren't more popular. Why don't they get more views, likes, comments, and general support. Why isn't Lewis more popular on KZbin. Why do we prefer videos about cats, car accidents, and other mindless distractions. Lewis is trying to help human kind but we don't want his help. It's unknown what we want...but it's certainly not something that is logical, reasonable, or attainable. We seem to want that which we cannot have and we know it. We know it's insane, yet we are fully committed to die on this path. How can you help a species that is hopeless.

Great questions, Lewis. I found it very interesting how when you asked about the specifics of her religion , she quickly diverted to speak about the United States or other countries/regions, diluting the issues. She is certainly articulate and did a great job dancing around the deep issues related to a region of the world where women's rights are almost non existent - except if you come from a wealthy or, upper class social family. Look at the United Nations surveys on women's rights for evidence. We need to call a spade a spade and stop pretending the real issues of lower/middle class women around the world. do not exist
@azlondon6 жыл бұрын
Exactly. But that's muslims for you. You CANNOT criticise them. Because they're scared of the truth. And also it's quite funny she talks about all these issues, which is fantastic, yet at the same time she's wearing a headscarf. Symbolising the oppression of women in the most horrible, oppressive political ideology that exists in the world today, which is islam. I'd like to ask her what she thinks of female genital mutilation, punishing rape victims, honour killings, murdering homosexuals, child marriages, domestic violence, etc....I could go on and on.

She’s not diverting from the topic of religion, she’s trying to give real examples of how the misuse of religion occurs in both the Middle East as well as America, it’s not something that is limited to Islam, which is what she is trying to convey. Furthermore as a Muslim woman, I’ll give you the specifics of my religion, Firstly The advent of Islam gave rights to women, the laws that were taught to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from God, included women’s right to education, women’s right to inheritance, to work etc. In fact it’s against Islamic law that a woman’s property and wealth be taken by her husband upon marriage. It was law for women them to keep all their wealth and property regardless of being married or not. No one could usurp their wealth. Furthermore, the highest form of religious academia in Islam is to be an Islamic scholar, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was one of the greatest Islamic scholars of all time. Islam had encouraged women to pursue scholarship in the religion. Some of the greatest scholars to date have learnt from some of the most prominent female scholars. The oldest existing, degree awarding university in the world was founded my a Muslim woman. These rights that we have now in the 21st century were given to women through Islam in the 7th century. Such rights didn’t exist in the western world until the 20th century. But in our modern times the religion of Islam has been misinterpreted and misused by men in power in order to validate their countries own cultural norms, for instance women not being able to drive in Saudi Arabia is by no means an Islamic law , Saudi Arabia is the only Islamic country in the world that has had such a law, but they attempted to impose this law by misconstruing religion as a means to enforce it on the general public. Hope that answers some of your thoughts in regards to this video.
