Home schooling your children are way better off than any public school. So glad you're doing that. Being close to nature, centers one's life. Gratitude... we all need to express our gratefulness for what God has put upon our plates. You guys are great together !! Thank you.

I have started watching your videos and have really enjoyed your efforts. First thing I noticed about you is your happiness while camping. You have talked about your family some, but seem happy to be alone. I must say that this video shows why. You have a lovely wife that seems to be just as happy as you are. Let's be honest here, when you was answering questions, it makes the video a bit corny. However, it never sounded corny. The 2 of you are so lucky to have found each other, it's almost a storybook match. You and your wife complete each other and it shows here brightly. You two are the people, when i was younger and able, i was most able to enjoy the woods with. Everyone gets something different from a camping trip. Some enjoy the beauty of the area, others enjoy the fresh air, others prefer the freedom of getting away from everyday life for a bit. The 2 of you are the rare couple that enjoy all aspects of camping and THAT'S what going camping is all about. Simple living in tents bring out the inner primitive instincts of survival that our souls crave, whether we realize it or not. It's far to easy to fall victim to home life. Going to work trying to improve your living style. I was a trucker, one day i went to work and when i got home, the kids were grown and gone... I missed it all. We never went camping, i always thought there would be time for that. I served in the Army, Navy, and National Guards. I saw a lot of time in the field and loved every minute out there. I had my heart in the right place trying to make life as easy as i could for my family, but things just didn't pan out as i had hoped. I would still love to take them camping, but i don't get around so well now and setting up a tent, let alone hiking to a campsite, is just not possible for me. Walkers limit you to open, level areas. The inner man in me still craves to get out and live a bit more primitive than what i live now. The 2 of you are truly in touch with that inner beast that longs to be free from daily troubles at home. Home is home and you will get back to it, but your in time out for a while. Your a lovely couple and thats as it should be with everyone. Somehow I can almost see your wife saying, honey go make a video somewhere. I honestly believe she can see and/or sense your need to get away for awhile. She knows that you love your trips, even if she isn't there. Her inner beast is much different than yours. She doesn't feel the need to get out as much as you do. What makes her special, is she is willing to nurture your inner beast. She is happy to join you on your trips, but her perspective of the woods is different. The woods are dark and dangerous. Where as for men, it's simply the challenge of living without a lot of the comforts of home. Something to remind us of how we could be living, if we didn't have the luxury of a home. It just feeds our inner beast to know, yeah things could get really bad at home, and with just the items in camping, not only could you survive, but do so comfortably. Having the wife come along works great because she tends to see the beauty of the world and open our eyes to it. Just with little ways, like seeing images in clouds or in the tree lines. They have a wonderful imagination and if we are smart enough to listen, can point out beauties that we would simply overlook.it's a shame you two don't fish, no doubt your missing out on that aspect of camping. Panning for gold would also be a fun video to watch you do. Anyway I felt compelled to comment and compliment the 2 of you on a great video. I am about to watch one with your son and you. By seeing this video, i am confident i will see a son thats just as happy to be out there with you as your lovely wife. Enjoy these times, not everyone gets to go out camping. I am going to subscribe to your channel. Thanks for your time.

I have only just come across your channel and have been watching some of the older videos. I am so happy to hear you say "Be happy with what you have and where you are.". My mother raised five kids on her own after we lost my father, she took us camping and did so much even though we had almost no money. We grew up having loads of fun and plenty of love. It's not the things bought with money that should make you happy it's the love and joy you find with family and friends that should make you happy and allow you to live your life to the fullest. I am happy for most of the time and smile because I'm happy. I have had people tell me to stop smiling as I can't be happy all the time....well they are wrong. Keep enjoying your family, your life and all your fun adventures.

I'm 79 going on 80 years old and my fondest memories are our family camping and hiking in the Adirondack mountains. I can get out and walk but I don't hike because I have to do it alone and my strength is not enough for me to be comfortable doing it alone. So I walk at least 2 miles a day and I'm hooked on your channel I watch you on KZbin and you make it so interesting and it's so nice that you give it to us being able to follow you almost feels like we're there. You and Susie are sweet couple and it's really nice that you do all these things together. Keep up the videos...

I never forget the can opener. I keep a P38 on my keychain--a real one, not a knockoff. Even use it at home when I get a can with a damaged rim. The P38 never fails! It was a gift from a friend who served in Viet Nam. I've had it for a long, long time.

Lots of air to heat up with just 2 people. If you were 3 or 4 or even with a large pet the heat sources would be larger and the tebt would trap that heat providing you with the extra warmth. Getting into the insulated part of the tent earlier would also help push the numbers up. Warm water bottle in socks (to avoid melting the tent) can be used as a radiator to push the numbers up early at night.

I would consider tying the tarp to the back of the suv's back door that is open, then the tarp to the suv lifted door or add vertical poles there and keep the suv door under or over the tarp , point the mouth of the tent at the suv and tie that to the tarp at the other end, then you would have one long living, work and lounging area, protected from the rain! Your SUV would than be a nice storage area. If you used poles at that end, at night you could still close the SUV back door.

Guys, check out the Hatfield & McCoy trail system in W. Virginia. I believe it's made from logging and coal mine roads throughout the mountains. It's not a long drive from your home and it might be a nice change of scenery some day. You guys will need a heat source if you want the tent to be warm. Insulation is not equivalent to heat or air conditioning. You have to add some BTUs!
