Funny how he mentioned the smell of the gunpowder .My girlfriend and I had breakfast at a restaurant in fort Walton Beach Florida ,as we were waiting to paying ,there was a group 3-4 , guys in flight suits sitting near the register (I didn't really notice them) then I caught the smell of gun powder ,I said to my girlfriend ,Wow , I guess someone was doing a lot of shooting today . The guys all chuckled , I didn't realize Eglin AFB was a stone throw away , they were all A-10 Pilots.

couple responses here but none tell the real reason, anti air MANPADS are becoming more prevalent with our enemies, and the A-10 Warthog is a low flying slow moving(in comparison to other jets) plane that can only do so much against a manpad. I don't believe the warthog is being entirely phased out but only being used for very specific situations/areas as it recently underwent a huge upgrade package.
@rbeckwithusa2 ай бұрын
@@gregrobertson5576 even so, what’s there to replace it? That thing is truly death from above…IMO, they EOL stuff so they can sell more expensive new stuff

My son had a slot to fly and his whole ROTC contingent at VMI were told they were going Reapers. He was bummed but realized in today’s world, the Reaper is a lot more feared by the bad guys ‘cause ya can’t shoot what you can’t see considering the altitude and optics. Mad props to these ‘Hog drivers. Def balls of steel.

My dad works in aviation and we both have a huge interest in bad ass flying machines. I myself have been drawn to military jets and other aircrafts. By far, the A10 is my favorite. It's so cool to hear this guy talk about it having flown it in combat and taught others how to fly it.

Was driving the Kangamangus highway in NH last month and there was a three ship of Hogs doing terrain following training. They ripped right over the scenic outlook we had stopped at and made multiple passes. Super awesome. Though it makes you realize in real deal you get maybe a couple seconds of turbo fan scream before there is nothing left but hair, teeth and eyeballs.
