What Went Wrong With Campbell's 740i Police Car?

Today we rebuild the entire engine on Campbell's E38 BMW 740i and give it a solid clean inside and out. While not perfect, it's looking heaps better than before and ready to peruse the streets!

Still to this day E38/E39 are still the best looking BMWS to DATE! I owned a 540i E39 and sold it because I was so scared of the timing chains lol ( I didnt have any $ back then so this would have screwed me big time and it was at 170,000km )

Is it non interference then,because you normally get the pistons hitting the valves with timing chain/guide failure.

Nah the engine stayed in time, chain just got a bit loose. And we messed up the timing when reinstalling everything

When you're glad that your car has timing chains instead of timing belts cause it means less maintenance work but your guides are made from plastic so all the good that comes with having a timing chain goes down the drain... BMW and others manufacturers who do the same, WHY ?🤷‍♂

Most cars don’t have too many timing chain issues, just a handful. So on average timing chains are better

Haha depends on the car, these 740i's are known to have timing chain guide issues, but an N/A I6 BMW like my 130i are actually very reliable all things considered
