I was stationed on an aircraft carrier for 4 years. Looks like you guys have a pretty solid understanding of how carriers work. You have your fighters,refueler,eyes in the sky's you even threw in a cuddy red. Sounds like you did your research. We had fighters, recon planes, refuelers, and the helicopters. The only thing you guys are missing is a transport aircraft but I suppose a cuddy black could fill that role. Great job on your setups!

Two distinct ways to use a carrier like this: One) General Purpose all rounder self sufficient long ranger. Load the carrier with one of everything (Prospector, Vulture, etc). Ditch anything on the support side that doesn't have the range to make fuel or cargo collection/delivery runs. Two) Offensive Carrier- the primary doctrine of carrier warfare and the main strength it adds to a fleet is allowing large numbers of short range craft to join in on a fight. To maximise this benefit it is necessary to pack the carrier to the brim with short range fighters and bombers: Arrows, Gladiators, one or two Torpedo bombers. Ditch anything that doesn't have the range to make the trip on its own. On the support side ditch any fighters that don't have long range capabilities, and add a strike wing of capital/sub-capital ships, Torpedo bombers, and long range fighters. When doing (Two), use the support craft to fly in all the pilots when a carrier strike force is being put together and the fleet is readying up for operations. Stack the carrier deck and hanger to the absolute brim, Japanese style. Three) Pirate loadout. #Jaden

Alright, pretty cool idea! Before I try to make it in 3D, this is my list I think for a similar, but somewhat bigger carrier strike group: Main carrier: Drake Kraken Fighter wing: 6x Anvil Arrow (2 reserve) and 3x Anvil Hurricane (1 reserve) - crews can use both depending on target AWACS: 1x Anvil F-7C-R for combat support and 1x Anvil Carrack fleetbased. Electronical Warfare: 1x Anvil Avenger Warlock based on the Kraken Medical Support: 1x Argo MPUV-1S as ambulance, based on the Carrack which is used as the main hospital Passenger transport: 2x Argo MPUV-1P. One based on the Kraken, one on the Endeavor Combat support: 1x MISC Starfarer, 1x Aegis Vulcan, 1x MISC Endeavor with Hangar and service/crew modules, 1x Drake Caterpillar (if needed a extra Hull C) Destroyers: 1x Aegis Hammerhead, (maybe 1x RSI Polaris), 2x Drake Cutlass Black (can fly solo but could also use the Kraken and Endeavor) I think a fleet like this would be pretty good prepared to operate for a long time away from their base and could provide themselves with whatever they might need. Another option would be to switch out 1 Argo MPUV for a Pices as that one can be fitted with a QT drive.

Another good idea for a new series. I'd like to see one on the Orion. My understanding of the Hornet Tracker is that it will gather data and send it to another ship that can prosess the information and give fleet directions. So for example the Hornet would take real time scans of the battlefield as the pilot continues to fight and send the information to something like a Carrack which can then direct everyone else in the most effective way possible.

I think the amount of logistics and support needed to operate some of the larger assets in SC are vastily overlooked. Good to see a series like this to raise awareness. One can always aregue about the details of the suggestions made but no one can tell until release. The important takeaway is, you need a lot of stuff for support. #Jaden

I think this series idea would be fantastic! I'd even like to see other drake kraken ideas (deep space mining, science vessel support, medical support) being that the kraken has so much versatility. An episode with Idris, Polaris, Orion etc. Maybe even lead up to a ideal fleet composition with the limiting factor being crew. 20/50/100 players etc. What fleet can you build with the limiting player resource?

I enjoy each of the proposed fleets but I would have included a few more scanning/exploration ships that are focused on doing active pinging so the Kraken does not have to, and have a very tight assault force. Additionally, I'd say the exploration ships could establish a few different beacons for the Kraken to access for quick escape routes. These beacons could be outside of the Kraken's normal range for beacons to help it escape further than anticipated. My idea about the Kraken is that it is more effective at any projected role when it is not located by legitimate threats.

@th3w1173 жыл бұрын
In a semi-permissible environment, I think that you could trim down even more because there would be resources on call for repair-resupply-medical and wouldn't need to have the dedicated support ships. I would go with 4 fighters capable of air superiority and CAS. A dropship or two. A rescue ship to deliver casualties to kraken or to another facility in the area. Maybe a corsiar/carrack and I liked the idea of a terrapin for recce. The recce can also be an on-call asset and not necessarily attached to the group.
@sportswatch51273 жыл бұрын
Execute & Ese: How do you transport the extra 4 fighters to the Kraken? Execute: Kraken is a mobile base...Cardinal rule...keep moving! Nautilus/mines are not needed. Ese: luv the use of the Buccs. Great point of view in using one brand/interchangible parts-excellent, also separating ammo from fuels. I have an exploration fleet. Was thinking of adding a Kraken as a base of ops. Jim
@sportswatch51273 жыл бұрын
Using my Polaris as the base of Ops, with 4 Arrows and 1 Buccaneer (sitting on top). Main expl ships: Carrack, Aquila, Starrunne, Terrapin, & Polaris. The Terrapin as forward scout already, plus more cargo on the Connie & Starrunner. Extra Bucc rides atop the Carrack. A Kraken would solve the fighters issues.

Like the new idea for the show and found the discussion interesting. I'd argue that a 'minimal' Kraken deployment should be operate mostly from the ship itself. That is already a lot of ships and pilots to field and open to a lot of versatility. Only other thing I thought was overlooked was the built-in support for dragonflys on the Kraken, with a dedicated workshop and hanger. Dont recognise many names on the wheel but best of luck to the contenders.

My personal take on this would depend on the Krakens level of maintenance/parts/etc. If I could store some hornet center turrets/modules on the Kraken or support Crucible, I would go that route for sure for my fighters. That would afford me a high level of flexibility with weapon size, weapon options, radar CIC forward ship, etc. I am a big hornet fan for this reason and also hope I can do with the IDRIS.

Staring at the different fleets I started wondering if you all tried to keep to the same number of points in your build. Then I realized I was applying point standards where none exist. So with that in mind I wonder if the only way to compare them would be dollar value comparison. Which feel costs more, which is the least and easiest to launch, and which appears to be the best bang for your buck. After seeing this video I do feel that the Nautilus is a natural pairing with the Kraken.
@byron.jennings2 жыл бұрын
I'm hoping that I can park my Kraken somewhere hidden, far from the general travel lanes, so that I can avoid conflict as much as possible. I definitely agree with the idea of running Arrows for support, with an Eclipse and Redeemer for heavier threats. That leaves the hangars available for repairs and visitors. For support, the Starfarer is a no-brainer. If the Kraken crew needs medical, an Apollo could come in as needed, and for resupply, a Caterpillar would be a great option. I don't know how long it will take for the Kraken to come out, but the way I feel about the concepts is that the longer the better, because as it's been said, usually the latest ship released is the best-made ship released. #Jaden

@jmcnear66883 жыл бұрын
@@Interobanger I have landed the M2 on two medium pads but it is a tight fit and the wings will over hang. I think another thing to consider is that the M2 will also have armor in the future. When armor is implemented it will make armored ships better in situations where you need to get supplies into a combat area.
@crackedjabber3 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised that none of you mentioned the Perseus. Low crew requirement, long range cannons, and it's main flaw, a weakness to fighters, is mitigated by escorting a carrier. So anyone hoping to deal with your Kraken, now has to worry about having their own arse shot off, or having the Perseus sniping off their support craft. And that's all for a crew of between 3 and 6 players. It also has some cargo capacity, so you could honestly slot it in instead of a cutlass black as far as the crew requirements.

Other than the obvious changes with to reduction of cargo traded for shops, would the Privateer make a good org base? If you go to the RSI site right now, the description for the Privateer is identical to the Kraken. It appears that the Kraken description was simply copied over to the Privateer. But the weapons loadout appears the same. I'm assuming the internally fighter bays are the same as well as the landing pads on top. It's my understanding that there are supposed to be more staterooms / sleeping bays in addition to the shops. Also there is supposed to be a dragonfly bay in the Kraken that is replaced with "specialty" shops. Will there be a medical bay on the Privateer as is supposed to be on the Kraken? So if your org is focused more on trading, mining, and other types of industry, wouldn't the privateer be better?
