I highly doubt they will use any other art style than the one/ones used in the broly film. Dragon ball has never looked better. And that art style allowed that level of fluidity and animation quality. It allows you to stretch the images without it looking off model. You'd never be able to make dragon ball look that good, or the animation that fantastic, if you used the art style from battle of gods for example.

One thing i really appreciate about Shintanis art is that it allows the characters to be put into super interesting poses reminiscent of western comic books. Modern Dragonball/Yammamuro seems to have a very samey png type look to it and while I love that style too its cool to branch out and get images like we did on Goku day. A fusion of the two styles is my ideal look for the series moving forward.

Yes I remember Yamamuro’s debut as supervisor starring a shiny Trunks as it was the pink haired saiyan’s debut in the anime. That is a good example of highlights done right. I wondered if they altered Trunk’s design to be of a Nike sweat jacket in the anime rather than his manga Jean jacket just to design extra highlights around him.

The thing is that while highlights can looks phenomenal (Hirudegan and Jenemba movies) , many animator cannot use them. Tate, despite how great he is in terms of animation, has a very clear problem with the art , especially when it comes to the highlights and shinny details. That’s one of the main reasons most of his drawings looked so bad in Super. So to put in short: it’s really not worth putting more neat looking details if not everyone is gonna keep up with them , you know? Although I do think dbs season 2 should 100% focus more on art and fast animation like how the Buu saga and animes like JoJo do. Art is MUCH more important than fluid smooth animation for Dragonball specifically. There is a reason the repeated looped frames are so iconic and liked by most (the ones of characters changing blows ofc). It’s cooler to look (especially for kids) at a beefy well drawn dude moving ultra fast than some rounded smooth fancy animation- in the case of Dragonball.

While the CGI wasn’t bad in Super Hero, I definitely would’ve preferred the DBS Broly style. Toei would be crazy to not bring that style back whenever the anime does return. Shintani’s style really fits Dragon Ball perfectly and makes it look just like the manga design in motion

Honestly it’s hard to give a single damn about the opm anime. By the time they get to the current manga content (which is literally only one arc from the end of S2 ) they’re gonna need at least 5-6 seasons. And that’s no camp at all. So yeah, fuck waiting years for decent animation. Nobody is toping S1 not because “it’s the original and best” or some shit, but cause what they did with it , the group of people who worked on it , well, it was something that only happens once. Shit was extremely crazy in the industry. I do hope and have faith that they may do a movie featuring great animators and art .

It better be like the broly movie. That's the BEST dragon ball has everrrr looked. I adore the art style. And going for a more similisric and clean look, allows for MUCH better animation much easier. You don't have to stay on model nearly as much which allows you to make much much more dynamic movements. A good example of this elsewhere, is Naruto and naruto Shippuden. When the art style gets more clean and simplistic, you know the crazy good animation is coming.

It's just that some of those old movie villains are interesting and I think they deserve being fully fleshed out like Broly. Imagine what we could do with the concept of Janemba, for example, the literal sum of all evil. Dragon Ball characters are often fairly flat and having a more sadistic antagonist, who doesn't just kill but relishes in torture and violence (kinda like a dark eldar minus the bdsm because shonen) could be neat. Sure, most of DB villains say they're like that, but usually they're only interested in killing or fighting or becoming immortal. Kid Boo was the closest we got to "pure evil", but he was mindless, only focusing in destruction. Janemba has the potential to be so much more. Kinda like the devil Dabura never got to be. Or Cooler, who could be a great way of diving into Freeza's past, his family and race. We got a glimpse of that in the Broly movie and would be nice to see more. Cooler could be a prodigal son, a disgraced older brother coming back from exile. Freeza unseasy that his brother could have a claim over his forces, due to being the eldest son as well as a lot stronger when they were young. This rivalry and sense of inferiority could even retroactively explain Freeza's fear of not being the strongest when we first see him in DBZ. Heck, I think even Raditz deserves a comeback. He's a saiyan and Goku's brother, for god's sake. If the series can pull Freeza out of hell and Broly out of non canon movies, I'm sure they could squeeze some character development for our boy Raditz.

@@joj5150 basically it’s WAY harder to draw on model with such specific details and shading. IE: The reason video game characters have so many extra zippers, belts,or designs on the character model. They only have to make it once and animate it rather than hundreds of time taking forever. The simpler art style let’s each individual artist have a lot of breathing room and let’s them add details as need.

Hopefully he doesn’t decline in his artwork like yamamuros did. Though I have to say that poster showing all of gokus forms is giving me vibes of toriyamas frieza saga artwork. Especially with ssj blue goku in the middle

I really prefer the two-tone coloring/lighting style, i even ended up adopting it in my own artwork about 2 years ago. I think its fine if Shintani wants to try and get a bit closer to Yamamuro's style or whatever when it comes to character shapes and stuff (personally, i prefer how Shintani draws over Yamamuro, but that's just me). However, if the plastic look returns when it comes to coloring, I'm gonna be super disappointed. I just like the more fluid art style in DBS Broly, it's very clean and it translates really well to action scenes where adding a third tone or whatever can enhance a scene.

Shintani's art is amazing and should be the main art style for Dragon Ball animes going forward. But I'd go batsh*t crazy if Yuya Takahashi suddenly becomes the supervising art director for the next DB movie.

I am not familiar with artists and their art but I can definitely say Dragonball super broly had the best visuals yet. From what I understood from the video shintani was the one who worked on dbs broly.

I like the Gogeta drawing on the right in the l the thumbnail. Reminds of the Budokai 2 European cover which I loved. Not sure who the artist for that was.

I'm fine with some of the Yamamuro aspects being incorporated if to look more like the older DB movies appropriately the way Takahashi does a bit. I just don't want the overly rounded and bubbly faces that the animators had been doing, despite Shintani's sheets not doing that but I still think Shintani's designs look a bit flat on screen.

Your comment regarding wanting Goku's design to look older is justifiable, but makes sense in context. After initially becoming a SJG, it was noted that Goku became slimmer and younger looking
