If they are a proper bikeshop and do good work, and treat consumer right, even if bike brand refuses, then yes. Have stuff you actually want or is willing to improve. Then yes. If they treat you like trash, and and bike brand refuses warranty, and bkekhsop refuses it, or a refund, or do bad work, or don't have a clue what they are doing. Then please don't. I don't have a proper bike shop near me, only an Intersport. I don't shop there much, as they rarely have stuff I need. Now they don't even have the hand cleaner I bought there. So I bought some at Würth instead. Some years ago I bought a multi-tool. I shop online, and get wha ti need where it is in stock. And buy the best product I can get.

Super informative video for those wondering on the price of bike shop bikes. Something to keep in mind when comparing is that the Roscoe is a trail bike and Xcaliber is a cross country bike. Geometry and tire clearance are pretty different. And like The Bike Chick mentioned, having the support of a shop is great for those of us not proficient at wrenching or don't want to invest time and money into tools.

My first bike at 56 years old, was a big box. It broke in 7 days. New to bikes and no help from big box. I went to Simpson’s and bought a Roscoe. Now I may have a bike problem. My two main bikes are Top Fuel 9.8+ and Rail 9.9 AXS XX1. Simpsons take great care of customers. I had a frame crack, Trek sent a new frame in a week. It is worth the money to support local shops with techs for making upgrades and repairs.

That's crazy that Trek sells a "mountain bike" with a freewheel but $400 walmart bikes are coming with cassettes now. I do really like the newest Roscoe 7 but at that price I'd much rather be riding a Marin San Quentin or Ragley Big al/Marley and still have a few hundred for upgrades.

It’s definitely nice to see what Bike shops have to offer but honestly when we go we feel that they’re just so expensive….. we were finally able to sell Jack’s old fat bike to a guy named Tyrone who is really nice and gave us 60 bucks for it he was such a nice guy we came down in price for him a little bit…. he said he’s going to put a motor on it and turn it into a little moped we told him to send us pictures and will share those pictures if he does but chances are I will never see him again but who knows

Man. The Excalibur (alpha) was only 899.99 +tax Canadian in 2015 and it was almost speced the same. The only real difference is the 1x drive train.

Inflation for sure. I remember when a tube was $2.99 in 2000. Raw materials went way up. The aluminum quality is better than 2015 & the fork is way smoother & it shifts quicker.

Watch out with these treks, they have a gaping hole in the BB, they have no chain stay or seatstay bridges. If you're heavy, ride hard, hate flexy frames or want to run 2.5-2.6" tyres these bikes are not for you
@stephenbouck2 жыл бұрын
man treks are neat bikes i had a fuel ex 8 but honestly im not into them for a few reasons 1) is everyone and there moms seem to have trek so there just not unique like building up say a big box store bike IMO 2) they are a bit to pricey for me honestly 3) IMO they are still a big box store bike bc every "bike shop" sells them lol but hey to each there own right.
@stlaker81392 жыл бұрын
Wow, I would love to have a trek but couldn't justify the price difference on my axum that I bought for under 200$ from Walmart. With a few upgrades and a new sram NX groupset for 180$ I will be under the price of the marlin 6 and have a better bike in my opinion.
@TheArimatheus Жыл бұрын
Internal routing sucks. Unless it's a dropper. Even then, maybe more pain than it's worth, just spend the extra $40 and go AXS electronic.
@mtbboy19932 жыл бұрын
I have no experience with newer Trek bikes, but I've owned several Trek bikes all with various issues. Freewheels make no sense to me. Buy same with the cheapest bikes. No wonder the Roscoe with the dropper post and one by drivetrain is a popular choice. It makes sense. But I am not a Trek fan. I had trek bikes in the past. All were horrible, all had issue, but it was ist 2010 Trek 6300 xc bike, first bike I had with hydraulic brakes. But frame quality was not the best as the ehad tube was not flush. The 2010 3900, had worse geometry, but had banged up bb shell from factory, painted over. But construction was good otherwise. Stiff enough and held up well. Buy would be nice if quality of the manufacturing was better. The 2014 fuel ex was super flexy, so flexy hanger bent on every ride, tyre run, sidewall had a circle on the sidewall, bearings got pushed out too, Awful, but atleast it was rideable. But I know their newer full suspension bikes are stiffer, a friend has a newer Fuel Ex, I forgot the model number and year, but he did not have any issues, he is light kid. But he does Shred, even in bike parks, and is a master at jumping, so hos bike gets a beating. The guy seen in some of my lastest vids. But I don't know how the bigger sizes do, nor the current model. But I can't reccomend a Trek Fuel EX due to the kinked seat tube å lone. But I hope their bikes hold up better for adults now. Before it was a disaster. But geometry has improved alot. But I hate they still insist on kinked seat tube, limiting the insertion depth, and still have same chain stay length for all frame sizes, this means each size rides differently, the balance point is different.
@mtbboy19932 жыл бұрын
If I had a bikeshop I would only sell bikes and parts that are good enough for me. But my critiria are so strict almost no bike brands fit into it. Manufacturing process, quality, quality control is important. Sadly many brands fail in this. Just a few have features, geometry I want, the solutions I want. I've seen so much bad stuff from big brands. Sadly there are many issues. Not only from bikeshop brands but from direct to consumer brands too, even boutique brands. Commencal has dh frames tha t snap in half, very common, and production issues so they cand deliver replacements, Fox overgreases their pistons, very common issue, Trek Slash snapped head tube, a dude had that with 2 frames, I've seen many carbon frames from various brands with bottom bracket tolerance issues, the BB shell is misaligned, different dimensions on each side, not to spec, not round, it was from several well known brands, lastest I saw was from BMC, I don't remember it all, but Kingdom is a boutique brand making titanium bikes, Hambini showed an bike with awful work at the BB shell, should have not left the factory. He showed a Trek road bike frame too i think, there was awful welding and deformed bb shell, no bottom bracket could be installed on it. But that was the worst Trek frame I've ever seen. Usually their welding is decent, but that was worse than Wallmart bikes. Yeti frames seem to snap if you crash on a rock, and warranty does not cover crashes, but I think the bike is not up to the task if it can't handle tipping over, seen similar issues with Santa Cruz. I've seen specialized had issues about 2 years ago more or less with their carbon Stumpjumper I think it was. But all of these things are absurd and common. I hope the bike industry improves. But I try to get the beat stuff, so I read reviews look at all info I can, try components I think might be good. Keep the parts that pass the test. Check out Aston MTB, he buys rides, reviews, and gives bikes and parts away in a lottery. He has destroyed most of the bikes he reviewed. But there are good products out there.
