Very interesting video. Maybe this hypothetical CPU could be called Athlon 5000G? Adding some overclocking, something the previous 3000G could also do, would also be quite nice to see.

CORRECTION: So I published this literally the day the Ryzen 5100 was "announced". But that's still a quad core anyway. Just means the bit about the 5300G being the lowest end Zen 3 desktop part isn't accurate now.

very interesting! i suspect that since multithreaded/multicore aware games are much more common these days, and mobile gaming is quite popular, that games running on two cores of sufficient performance per clock should be okay in most situation where the game isn't thread or CPU bound. i would expect heavily CPU dependent games like spiderman or cyberpunk to be much more obvious in being weaker on only two cores. something that might be interesting is trying if the super popular APUs have any "game" left in them. the A series were "last gen" CPUs (A10-7700 for example), but the more genuine Zen based APUs like the Athlon 3000G might have some tooth left in them, and you can disable the hyperthreading on it too if that's worth seeing how big the performance advantage is of HT.
