What Would a Future Islamic State Look Like? | Dr. Tareq Al-Suwaidan

Many scholars have reminisced about establishing an Islamic political entity like the ones of old, but little thought has been dedicated to thinking about what it would look like if that Islamic state was actually established. What sort of laws would there be? How would people be treated? Dr. Tareq Al-Suwaidan, a renowned Kuwaiti speaker, author, television personality and visionary, joins host Dr. Safiyyah Ally in a virtual conversation. Dr. Tareq imagines a future Islamic state that is not a theological state or a dictatorship; rather, he conceives of it as a constitutional democracy that protects rights and freedoms, distributes wealth, prioritizes education and health and focuses on improving the lives of its citizenry.

In Indonesia we had an era where we were a Parliamentary democracy, and the Islamic Masyumi party had the premiership in quite a few times. That being said, they formed a coalition with the socialist party, christian party, and catholic party, which reflects the sort of pragmatic democracy that I believe the Doctor here yearns for.

@@peterhwang352 severe is an overexaggeration, it implies that there is no mobility for non Muslims in Indonesia which is simply not true. I'm not denying that incidences of religious intolerance are non existent, unfortunately they still exist, but to infer the status of non Muslims based on singular incidences is a bit of a reach. It's not rare to find Mosques, Churches, and Temples sharing the same walls for example. Also not rare are the number of non-muslim students enrolled in schools run by Islamic organizations. Even some parties considered in the west to be "Islamist" have non-muslim members in their upper ranks. And I know you're gonna bring up Aceh, so I implore you to look up videos of Hindus celebrating their religious day in public and not being punished by the authorities for doing so. Beautifully said, people don't dream enough of a better future so noone works for it anymore we take how things are as they will be but that is just false, we are too engrossed with the profits of today to even consider which path leads to a better tomorrow. Most of us don't fight to reach tomorrow so we should spend that time not to reach the day after but to make tomorrow a better day to live in, all while facing the challenges each day at a time while keeping an eye on carefully updated benchmarks like resource availability so that we don't overdraft for our standards of living those of our children. Without forgetting to stop and smell the roses along the way.

If anyone has the hadith about the winged horse on a curtain, please let me know. Currently the statement about the art and winged horse curtain is questionable. I have looked through all 9 volumes of sahih Al-Bukhari and haven't found a narration that the curtains were left on. In fact, in Sahih Al-Bukhari, there is no mention of a 'winged horse curtain'. Only curtains with pictures on it. All of which the prophet ﷺ ordered to have removed as the images distract him in his solaah (like a photographic memory type of situation, I'm assuming). There is a hadith in Sahih Muslim however that does mention the curtain with winged horse and this too the prophet ﷺ ordered to have it removed. So, I'm not so sure what Dr Tarek is referring to here.

5:56 amazing concept this person is fed up with. As far as leadership is concerned that too under the rulings of quran and sunnah. How a non Muslim be a leader who neither believes in Allah, Quran nor in Prophet Muhammad pbuh. Even if Dr suwaidan thinks that in his such a theological state a constitution will be framed within the framework of Quran and sunnah and by his understanding will let all parties to give bayyah upon the constitution book. Doesn't it seem silly that a party who accepts a book only to rule the country or the world while ignoring the source of that constitution that is framed. As per my knowledge as a little student of islam, his concept is good at some instances and no one has the right to blame his intentions but the muslims have other good options as well than Dr Tareq Al-Shwaidan, I can quote like Syed Qutb, Dr Iqbal, Molana Maududi, Dr. Israr. As i have a gone through this topic upto little depth what i could understood was that an islamic state which every muslim has a future dream in their lives should have a one party system where islam has to be the main subject on the state level. A well equipped socio-politico-economic system based on Allah's guidance. If the ruling party will be more dominant to any particular Fiqh or a Sect then that could never be an islamic state in the real sense, infact that will be the kingship which is disliked by the prophet Muhammad pbuh by himself. So the role model for this theological state is the state of madina during prophet Muhammad pbuh rule and after that the Rashidun Caliphate. No other system has any value in islam which do resemble any system other than the above mentioned two ideas. Yes as he mentioned the world has evolved very much, so for this the door of IJTIHAD is always open for the Caliph. I've read a book by Dr Israr Ahmed a Pakistani theologian philosopher and a medical Doctor named "The islamic renaissance A real task ahead" go through it. Wallah u alam

His dream state already exists - it’s called Turkey. That is effectively the country he has described. Unfortunately, the respected Sheikh has a warped understanding of what an Islamic state is. Islam didn’t come to adapt to society, it came to adapt society to Islam. The orientalist understanding of anything that isn’t western-style democracy is automatically labelled a dictatorship or tyranny. Sadly, we find that this has rubbed off on the sheikh too. We must stop fetishising democracies and western political models. The world isn’t coming towards democracy - it is in fact moving away from it and crying out for fresh alternatives. The ummah has a golden opportunity to present our uncompromised message in the global political arena and challenge the western world order. Not to create a cosmetic shell of Islam that dilutes our deen and lets allows enemies to undermine it. May Allah guide the sheikh and guide us all.

@@AsifAlli Why can't we adopt democracy? Is it inherently haram?
@AsifAlli
@AsifAlli Жыл бұрын
@@runninginsept Yes it is haram. The reason why is due to definition and also practical implementation. By Definition, Democracy means Demos Kratos which is greek for People Rule. The idea being marketed across the world is that "Majority rules". For example, if in a country that implements Democracy, the majority agree that women should receive less pay than men in the workforce, then that rule takes effect. Another example, if the majority agrees that everyone is allowed to walk around naked, then that law would be in effect. You can take that down a rabbit hole and see the outcomes not only in theory but also in practice. But also in practice, it is never really "majority" rules. It is "those that have the power, money and influence" will make the rules. That is how so-called democracies run today. Given all that, you can see how injustice can be rampent, and in effect this is what we have in the world today. Islam, on the other hand says "Allah the Sovereign rules", meaning that the divine laws from the Quran and Sunnah are what constitute the ruling body of laws in the society, not the so-called majority. The reason for this is that if you believe in a single Creator who has created the entire universe with such precision (planets, stars, orbits, magnetic fields, etc) and also created us, then you must be able to see that that same creator would also know how we should govern ourselves. And indeed the Creator does. That is why throughout time He sent messengers and prophets to many nations and tribes to bring them back onto the right path. And just as every prophet/messenger came with their own message for a certain people at a certain time, for a certain period of time, it was the FINAL messenger (i.e. Prophet Muhammad) who came with the final message for all of humanity (not just a specific nation), and for all time. Consider this as different operating systems (i.e. previous versions of windows) that were developed and sent to different people throughout history culminating in the final one (current version of windows), the Qur'an (the theory) and the Hadith (examples from the prophet Muhammad's time of how he governed and ruled in a just Islamic state)....This is the difference between Islam and Democracy. Also Democracy is a greek concept. Concepts and ideologies that do not emanate from the Islamic body of thinking should not be considered what would follow in our daily lives as muslim. We were given the best example in the Prophet Muhammad, and we simply need to implement it the same way he did....

That's actually not true, in fact religious freedom is suppressed in countries like France where women are forced to take off their headscarves. And where does democracy fit into this scenario? The problem here is that when any type of ideology whether it be religious or secular becomes radical then no rhetorics such as democracy will save you because the moderation is not an objective at all. That is how the world functions when they go extreme, which is why a moderation is required to have more groups aligned with that state than only encompassing the beliefs of one group over the other. So in that case nothing is wrong with religious state as long as it's done moderately and that is what the guest is stressing in this interview as well. Hence, I wouldn't recommend seeing the world in black and white because history shows that religious states can be more tolerant and in harmony while so called democratic countries are oppressing the heck out of people if they dare to deviate from the mainstream narrative. Just look at the situation in Europe and North America now, how Russians are treated and how their assets are frozen with the potential stealing in the name of the EU. Or even so called p/and/emic which became a great scam too in human history as the whole planet was manipulated into extreme. People today live in godless states where they attach themselves to this world thanks to secularism thus they are afraid to die. The more people have fear from death, the more irrational decisions will be made in such places. Due to this exact reason I would rather have a religious state that operates by God given morals and principles than man made ones that is concerned only with wordly matters and that can change with time as they desire. I myself have seen this especially among youth that have suicidal moods. Humans are more than just physical agents on this earth, and until we recognize our ultimate purpose in this life we will be seduced with all sorts of temptations in this world that will force us forget about our Creator to whom we will all eventually return.

Assalamualaikum, Sheikh I also believe that one day Muslims will rule the whole world but the things that Allah has forbidden is every human the Qur'an has sent for not only Muslims but also for Whole human kind And also the thing is no non muslim is allowed to be a khalif of our Islamic State everything which Allah has forbidden in Quran also forbidden for Every human being. Isa AS himself will show us how to rule I respect you but some of the things you told are not right in the constitution of our Islamic State

This guy is clever but some of his view are unacceptable. Based on his western ideology of multi party democracy. Saying islamic state will have multi party and who ever win govern, so to say islamic state governed by Kafir Khalifa or non muslim. Remember khalifa of umma is the imam of muslims and his ruling binding to all. Better to stay quite sometime rather then confusing Muslims.

It's all nice and UK has similar principles already , and the drinking out side in public on the street is illegal anyway , my question is some people would be oppressed in a Islamic state , you would not allow gay rights and marriage , so not everyone would have there freedom to be who they want and to marry who they want , see in the UK all religions are welcome with them being able to have there churches, and have discrimination laws to protect them , different races of people , different sexualities here, and that's why I love my country because of this

This ignorant person whom you presented on the grounds that he is a scholar, in fact, did not even study religion, but his specialty is physics. His only relationship with religion is that he used to read some religious stories like the person who tells bedtime stories to children.

Comments like this make it clear that people are immature to understand the message that the guest is trying to convey. We are operating by the western concepts of democracy and pluralism that have malleable features in nature hence change over time therefore will not be easily applicable to our generation. We have to understand the essence first before we jump into conclusions that theocracy and democracy are irreconcilable.
