@@cedrickwhite1511 I don't know if I agree with the comparison. They're two players that play different positions and have very different styles of play. How do you guard Shaq without fouling him? Jokic would be better, elite passer, can shoot 3s and FTs. Back in Shaq’s era no 5 and 4s can step out, so that creates a ton of space for Kobe. Jokic would also easily fit in triangle system. Whatever deficient he lose in dominance and power he gains in passing and shooting. I’ll rather take that.

I have been saying this since the Lakers broke up their championship team. If they don't have Dwight to hold Yoke up then they don't even get to the finals. AD was able to play off and that way he was effective. This series AD had to play Yoke straight up and give the Lakers offense which isn't his biggest strength to begin with. The toll showed in this series. Howard would have helped them way more than AD and 💯 more than any of the Lakers back up centers. It was sad to watch.

Ive watched Shaq play since his last year in Orlando. He is by far the most DOMINANT PLAYER (I've seen) ever. Literally unstoppable in many games. Shaqs numbers, respect from his peers, & accolades all speak for themselves. HOWEVER, I'm still sensing Jokic slander in this video. Jokic has such a finesse to his game. He doesn't need to use brute power & force because the game is different now. Jokic has a soft touch, a jumper, 3-pt ability, fadeaway, post play, floater, his skillset seems endless. He's also an intelligent player, he understands how defenses try to play him and he adjusts accordingly, kinda like LeBron. Jokic would 100% be a top 3-5 center in the league if he started playing in 2005 or before.

Let's be real, Shaq would've destroyed the league if David Stern wasn't so hard on him. Like with Wilt, the NBA made it harder for him. He had an interview where he talked about having a convo with Stern that he kept getting hacked and not getting any calls. Stern responded by saying that he's gotten calls from teams complaining about Shaq. He realized that if he just put up with it, then guys would be afraid of him so much more. Just like with MJ and the Jordan rules, though Jordan can't retaliate like Shaq, where Shaq kept getting hard fouls and not getting calls, he put up with it and dished out monster dunks over other players that really hurt them both physically and mentally. That's how dominant Shaq was. And if Stern just loosened up, Shaq would have the other team in foul trouble just in the first quarter alone only having 5 players left (correct me if I'm wrong, not sure if the rules say 5 or 6 players would be kept despite everyone in foul trouble but any succeeding calls will be FTs. Not sure if either the team who's player got fouled will keep the ball after the foul shot or a tech will be given to the opposing team or something like that). He'd destroy the game. In this era I'd think that's what would happen if Shaq plays now

While Shaq is dominant, he is only really effective in the post, backing you down and getting easy layups or dunks. Jokic can kill you in the post, in the midrange at the 3pt line and with he`s passing and playmaking. So Jokic has an argument for being more dominant because he can kill you in multiple ways.

These discussions are fun but ultimately comparing eras is a fools errand. Teleport prime Shaq into todays league and he would struggle. Same too vice versa with any of todays players. For instance, Shaq would be in foul trouble as often as they call fouls in todays game. Also, his free throw shooting would be unacceptable today where bigs shoot 80 percent. Yes he would adapt but then it is a completely different discussion.

Guys are making all of the points as to why Jokic is overrated. He doesn’t look like he’s doing much because he’s not doing a lot. He’s fortunate because there are not a lot of quality big men in the league these days. Teams play “small ball” now to cover for the center deficiencies in the league. A lot of placeholders that a decent, serviceable big man (a la Jokic) will get big numbers on if he’s in a system to take advantage of that. He’s the poster child of a player racking up meaningless numbers that do nothing for his teams ultimate goal (winning a chip). Jokic’ s teams have won ZERO chips. The team goes as those quality perimeter players (Porter Jr, Murray and Gordon) goes. I know a lot of people are not trying to hear what I’m saying but let’s be real with this. He’s not that dude. Two MVPs and almost a third… GTFOH! Somebody wake folks up.

Such a casual opinion.. There's a lot that goes into running an offense in the NBA.. This isn't pick up basketball you play at the gym.. if you doing basic things that are easy and simple to execute, you won't last long if you don't have some level of talent or skill.. teams do insane amounts of scouting and analytics to level that's insane. If you a one dimensional player you'll either get found out pretty easily or you so good that teams can't stop you

No matter what they tell you and if anyone has learned anything from following basketball, it’s that the numbers don’t mean anything. Wilt had all time numbers = only got TWO chips. His contemporary, Bill Russell with numbers not nearly comparable - ELEVEN chips. Westbrook and Oscar Robertson have a lot of “Triple Doubles” between them - one title between them. Stats are not the whole story. Jokic is just getting a great narrative thanks to this senile media.

The league caters to offense nowadays. Refs are more likely to call a foul that favors the offensive player. That’s why people can live with flopping. Imagine dropping Shaq in an era where refs would always call a foul against Shaq’s defenders? Shaq would miss a million more free throws, but he’d decimate the opposing lineup with foul trouble. if they switched eras, Shaq would have been encouraged to pass, Jokic would have been encouraged to play a stereotypical big man role and his point guard would be the primary distributor. Consider it this way, Shaq came up initially as a point guard with a jump shot, he was told to throw that away and be a full time center because of his size. If he came up in THIS era, he'd have been encouraged to keep his jump shot as well as use his passing skills more. Now imagine if you will, Shaq with a three point shot and being allowed to pas as a primary distributor of a team....

It's crazy how many people don't know that Shaq could handle the ball and run the break. Dude was the focal point in the triangle and definitely could pass the ball as well. Joker couldn't dribble past him and can't out muscle him. The reality is, Joker is prime Arvidas Sebonis playing in an era conducive to those skills and with no real competition at the position. Joker against Shaq, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Kevin WIllis, and many others of the era, would not get what he wants against that level of competition. and many of the guys I named, even Rick Smits could make life difficult for Joker. He's thriving at the right time and kudos to him but we know this is not an era conducive to great big men. Literally there are only two and Giannis is really a Power Forward like KG, Tim Duncan, etc.. but he's so athletic and aggressive that he can dominate because there's no competition.
