Yay!! You’re not yelling so loud! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️ PRS I hope you get Paul to come build a guitar with you!! I have met him several times. I imagine if you contoured it, some of the inclusions would clean up and it would be lighter, of course. I bet to deal with the wormhole in the top, they’d do some kind of really cool inlay in that top.

Just a shout out to you Matt. Awhile ago you inspired me to do my first fabric top. It worked out great (although the epoxy got a little thin at the sides, should have taped off). Your workshop setup is masterful sir. As someone who is starting out and doing everything Ben Crowe style (sandpaper, rasp and straight edge) I hope to one day have a plethora of amazing tools like you. The pinrouter (of course) seems awesome, huge potential of jobs with that. And your neck radius-ing sanding jig made me drool a little (so easy to do compound radii). Anyway, enough shameless flattery, but just know that if I ever make my way to Colorado, I would love to swing by and meet the legend....and the other guy. Looking forward to seeing your Great guitar build off winning entry.

Not to change the subject but... You guys have a lot of great tricks up your sleeves, maybe you have one for this. Routing templates for positive and negative shapes. So, what I mean, If I have a unique shape for a plate that covers the back side control cavities I'd like the cavity shelf it sits on to be a perfect fit all the way around. I know I could carefully make both templates slowly fitting the inner template into the outer one, but there's got to be a better way, a "trick". I've thought of one. Make the outside template of MDF to the ideal shape for the route into the body, then set it on a flat surface topped with wax paper, then pour some hardening substance inside the shape, or maybe a hardening clay putty to make a temporary inner template (for the plate), then put the temporary template over MDF to route out the final plate template. I should end up with a plate template that perfectly fits within the shelf route of the body. But sheesh, there has to be and easier trick!
@TexasToastGuitars4 жыл бұрын
That is a tricky one John, the best one we have for that is a set from guitartemplates.com There are lots of other great template companies out there too.

i wish i still had my 2000 mccarty soapbar, what a great guitar!! it was great when i 1st got it but then i got it set up by Orkie, paul's original sideman from the start, after that it was awesome. i was lucky enough to have been in orkie's extended family at the time. i think he's with knaggs guitar, he was last time we talked. Great build Matt!

Love the video, Matt! I own 3 PRS guitars. A custom 24, a Mark Tremonti signature and the Santana model. So, this was great fun to watch. You seemed to be having some fun and that's great. Oh, the lunch scene, lol. I just wish you would have kept going with that shot for a good 30 or 40 secs. That would have been hilarious. A real "Three Amigos" intro moment if you've seen the movie. Can't wait for more.

I think its interesting to try and put yourself into the headspace of an idol. I think Paul would probably build a guitar based on the wood and templates available - especially if he only had 1 day to do it. I think that he would 'PRS' an existing design, like adding the scoop, making it a 25" scale, 10" radius, going for the truss rod he prefers (of course), maybe even putting a bevel around the top so its not flat and a belly carve to not only be comfortable, but reduce the weight. He may even have gone as far as using your Duplicarver too - they do make a Single Cut similar to a LP and so may have made something like the SC245 or McCarty 594. I think if he did come to your shop, it would be more interesting to hear about the decisions he has made over the years on some of the changes that have been implemented. As someone who has experimented and assessed thousands of different tweaks, modifications, parts etc, that experience is invaluable - even if you don't necessarily agree on things (like Type of Truss Rod), it can only be beneficial to be able to discuss these with him. He helped Nik Huber a LOT too and of course Joe Knaggs...

I think so too, or maybe he would go completely outside the lines and create from within. Just for fun

the worm hole is cool ... double cut limba guitars should be raunchy .... i would vote for P90s ... i think it would've been cool to slice off the body top (maybe 3/8") and weight relieve the body bottom before gluing the top back on ... yeah you gotta leave enough wood in the bottom for structural integrity and securing the bridge/tailpiece ... but all in all i think this was cool!

That would have been a cool thing to do, we had a truncated time frame but it would have been neat

@@TexasToastGuitars I love what Paul does but I don't like the 10"radius necks,and I really strongly don't like the pickup's,but the fret work,wood,build quality could be some of the best and his Tremolos are AMAZING
