Body dies but soul never dies .Ramana Maharshi is right. When we realize who we are there are no questions. Our difficulty is we understand the fact touching the surface. When we go deeper, there is none to say I or me. All are energy and vibrations. I experienced this truth once. But again in to the same world and same confusion. It happened accidentally when I was in deep meditation. When the meditation was over it was like a dream. I was searching where I am and where is my body. We are in illusion. That's why we can't understand the fact correctly. It will take time time for us because we are not realized people. Some time it happens to people through meditation as an accident.

@@halcyon2864 karma yoga teaches us to do only karma's without expecting the results. Karma means action. Great scientist Newton's third law of motion is nothing but jaisi karni vaisi bharni. i.e. as you sow so you reap. Just think why Lord Krishna had said not to expect the results. To me it seems that we must expect good results if we do good actions and vice versa. But actually what happens is the bad result we get even after doing good action is because of our prarabda. The bad actions of our previous birth bring bad results in this birth. In this process our good action done by us will yield us good results may be in near future. We must keep on doing good karmas only whose good results we expect in near future or far future. This is karma yoga.

There should not be any confusion here. Reincarnation is true as long as the Self identifies with the body or mind or ego or anything other than Brahman. But from the ultimate standpoint, where Ramana Maharshi was, rather is, situated, only Brahman/ Atman/The Real Self of the nature of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss (Sat-Chit-Ananda or Sacchidananda) is The Truth. Everything else, including this world, body, mind etc are appearances in that Brahman. To him (like Maharshi) who has really realised and experienced this ultimate Truth (not merely intellectually or theoretically), reincarnation is meaningless and the world is Mithya- neither real, nor unreal. But from the point of view of one who has not reached that exalted state (like most of us), reincarnation is indeed true. You can watch lectures of Swami Sarvapriyananda of Vedanta New York Centre for more clarity.
@snakeeye4150
@snakeeye4150 2 жыл бұрын
Beware when you say "reincarnation is indeed true". True has to be absolute otherwise it's not true, it's just a temporary lie. Have you clearly remembered memories of being in different bodies before this one? If yes, then it's temporarily true, but not absolutely true. Best not to say it is true, otherwise the topic of reincarnation winds itself into so much unnecessary imagination. Do sadhana, go deeper, don't conclude, don't identify as a non-realized being.

SHASHANK S "Everything else, including this world, body, mind etc are appearances in that Brahman" Some followers of Advaitha wrongly interpret Maya as the illusion through which Brahman falsely appears as the universe. Maya is another name for Shakthi. Maya is absolutely real and it is the "creative" shakthi of Brahman (or athman). So, the material realm is also very real In the same way Mithya does NOT mean false either. Mithya means temporary world or contingent world. eg Tasks in your office may be temporary but they do not mean false. So you must finish them. In the same way, the subject (you) and the object (external world) split may be temporary but it does not mean there is no subject or object.

For all those who are commenting here that rebirth is true, you're missing the point of Ramana. He says the Self is beyond birth and death. It's the ego that feels a sense of control, a sense of drama that's inherent in the idea of rebirth. It's ignorant to think that rebirth can be reward or punishment based on current birth. Whether rebirth is true or not, the wise thing to do is live the current life with full presence.

Ramana Maharishi did not say no reincarnation. He just said that it is limited only to people who falsely identify with thoughts and body due to lack of knowledge, violate dharma (or natural law - so the purpose of hindu tradition is to prevent violation) and create Karma or cause and effect and those who are attached to everything and falsely assume that they are the doer. The conscious, immanent and omnipresent athma is NOT the doer (neither act nor react) even though the experiencer of 5 senses. TAT TVAM ASI - you are that. Yes there is no individual identity based on the conscious and immanent athma since it is also omnipresent but it does not mean there is no conscious and immanent athma or rebirth or reincarnation. It is because without the conscious, immanent athma nothing can exist or nothing can be perceived in its current form or no duality cycles can happen (including reincarnation cycle). This is Sankhya Vedic metaphysics (around which the whole hindu tradition was built including yoga and tantra) which can be validated by logic, double slit quantum experiment and embodied experience (direct knowledge through focus and meditation).. Birth/death duality cycle continues due to "vasanas" (or memories or smells) unless one practices Kriya 40 seconds before the juncture of birth/death duality cycle. Sri Krishna mentions it in Bhagavad gita about both reincarnation and how to come out of the cycle. Ch.2 v.13 (REINCARNATION) dehino ’smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ yauvanaṁ jarā tathā dehāntaraprāptir dhīras tatra na muhyati "As the embodied athma continuously exists, in this body, from boyhood to youth to old age, the athma similarly continues to exist in another body when the body decays and gets another body"(Bg 2.13) During reincarnation, we should not say athma transmigrates. We should say the subtle body (chitta, buddhi, manas, ahamkara, subtle bodies of 5 senses + 5 sense organs) transmigrates. Since the conscious athma and prana are omnipresent, we should not say they transmigrate.

FYI, I would like to say that Sri Ramana maharishi had no gurus, he , without any initialization process went into a cave in Tiruvannamalai as a very small kid , there he meditated for about twelve or more years and attained realisation. One should beware of fake and fraudulent gurus of kaliyuga.

@@dasakoota it also means one does not need a guru to experience SHABTHA BRAHMAN unless one is too lazy to understand and practice different techniques to expand the consciousness. Even of one gets so called "initiation or Diksha" from a guru which can act as a catalyst, one has to put their own efforts and it is neither practical for the disciple nor the guru to be in constant touch with each other. So, stop giving advice that one should not do meditation without a guru. See, when you say "reincarnation does exist however", how do you define "exist"? That which "exists" means that which you can perceive, and that which you can perceive belongs to the realm of motion, and all motion is temporarily allowed to "exist" by the stillness out of which it springs. So, what "exists" is the motions of the mind perceived by the mind itself, while you remain as the watcher. But the reincarnations that your rational mind wants to prove so badly, are none other than memories of motions, of ideas. And all motion, all ideas, are temporary. They are born out of stillness, are maintained by stillness, and are destroyed back into stillness, by stillness. As long as you are identified with your temporary bodily wave motions and mental wave motions, you will keep believing that you are reincarnating, until you free yourself from the falseness of it.

Vaidir If that was the case why would Krishna "enlightened" Arjuna to kill his relatives, gurus etc? Point is both Jnana yoga and Karma yoga are important. Within the material realm, dharma has to be sustained. Those who violate dharma create Karma or cause and effect and reincarnation. Because Rama was cursed by the pious wife of Vali, Thara for killing her husband by hiding behind a tree in an "adharmic" manner. Sri Ramana says that Reincarnation exists only so long as there is ignorance. It is clear from this comment that with the physical death, ignorance of the mind does not end and so reincarnation exists so long as ego or the ignorant mind, which is the subtle body and survives the physical death, exists. Once the veil of ignorance is removed, it is known that really there is no reincarnation because the one which reincarnates that is the ego dies and the mind finally becomes or rather it realizes that it is established in Self.

Dear @Lyjus Lyjus Sorry to hear about your loss. Should be heartbreaking to lose children at such a young age. We do not know about reincarnation, but perhaps you can reflect on how you can celebrate the times he was alive. The feeling of loss comes from the ego, and it is a natural feeling when we find ourselves in a strange, unfamiliar place. What would be good for your soul is to completely process this feeling and express it in whatever ways you find therapeutic. For some people this might be journaling, for others it would be going on a yatra and dissolving the ashes in holy water, or it might be even in a creative pursuit like writing a story or poem or bodily movement. These help to come to terms with the loss and bring about the acceptance which is important for your soul to achieve its purpose. Wishing you the strength and self-love through this dark time.

Infinite and rebirth are the same exact meaning, a flower doesn't grow to get better it grows to replicate and reproduce itself, the Universe is just like zygote to consciousness and when we nuke ourselves and destroy all of our consciousness the Universe rebirths itself as the unconscious self until it's conscious of itself again and I'll be writing this same exact comment again until we nuke and destroy all of our consciousness again. Only one percent of consciousness forever awakens to the logic that you can never first exist because a first is a belief(first belief as conscious existence) because the Universe always first believes it exist as a projection of its own self image but the Universe repeats its projection of itself forever because repeat is infinite as infinite is repeat. To exist is to know you exist as to know you exist is to exist, I am what I always am as I always am what I am.

But Ramana Maharishi simply said if there is no attachment (Attachments can lead to Karma or cause and effect or memories) then there is no reincarnation (birth/death duality cycle). But it does not mean you can do whatever you want and escape karma or cause and effect which works on the principle of delayed causation. So, if you want to validate the pre-programmed karma of "sunil" find a good astrologer who can reveal the pre-programmed role "sunil's" past, present and the future including mode and date of death. Point is, as long as there are vasanas or memories created by false identification with thoughts and body or violation of dharma (natural law) or attachment to everything, there will be reincarnation or birth/death duality cycle.

Dear @kashsoldier, just to push our collective inquiry further (and to add to the discourse) - how can one experience that "the athma similarly continues to exist in another body when the body decays and gets another body" and "the subtle body (chitta, buddhi, manas, ahamkara, subtle bodies of 5 senses + 5 sense organs) transmigrates"?
@indianmilitary
@indianmilitary 2 жыл бұрын
@@MindfulSoul "how can one experience that "the athma similarly continues to exist in another body when the body decays and gets another body" In samadhi or expanded consciousness state, the experience becomes cosmic for an individual. In terms of an analogy, 10 fingers are athma and the body is paramathma. If you expose your 10 fingers to 10 different experiences (like hot, cold etc), the body experiences all the 10 different experiences even though the individual finger experiences only what it is exposed to. Instead of saying how "one" can experience" we can logically analyze it.. It is well known that conscious, immortal, immutable, immanent and omnipresent athma is always there and everywhere. It also means, without the immanent, omnipresent and conscious athma nothing can exist or nothing can be perceived in its current form or no duality cycles of nature can happen including reincarnation cycle. This is Sankhya Vedic metaphysics (around which the whole hindu tradition is based on including yoga and tantra) which can be validated by logic, double slit quantum experiment and embodied experience (direct knowledge through focus and meditation) It also means, tables, dead bodies and rocks etc also have conscious and immanent athma without which nothing can be perceived in its current form Athma is the experiencer of 5 senses (but neither act nor react or not the doer) not the other way round. So, during transmigration, the subtle body transmigrates (which also should have the conscious athma since it is omnipresent) into the womb of a mother (zygote). So, in the form of cosmic allegories Shiva and Shakthi, Shiva is just the observer and the experiencer and the dance of duality cycle is performed by Shakthi (energy). The moment Shiva loses interest or stops observing, shakthi stops dancing and nothing can exist after that. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to explain.

Dear @kashsoldier, the connections between double slit experiment, quantum physics and Vedic metaphysics have largely been discredited. (I studied Quantum Physics myself at a postgraduate level at one of the world's best universities.) Sharing a well-intentioned thought below which you may receive or reject depending on your journey: Thank you for your elaborate response. However, it seems that your response is derived from an intellectual/theoretic/academic understanding instead an experiential understanding at a personal level. This is neither good nor bad, but what worries my perceiving mind is how strong you seem to argue that your knowledge is true by being definitive about it. This knowledge could become a trap, and could limit your own spiritual progress.

So the discussion about reincarnation in Bhagavat Geeta is wrong?
@MindfulSoul
@MindfulSoul 2 жыл бұрын
@UDAYA SREE, It would be folly to say anything is right or wrong. Human knowledge is always limited and all interpretation of scriptures is subject to those limits. All we know about Bhagavad Gita are based on human interpretations. Just like one word that can have multiple meanings, different schools of philosophy (dvaita, advaita, sankhya etc.) have their own interpretations. However, the ultimate truth remains the same regardless of the different 'angles' of the view that humans look at it. And, it would be pointless to debate or argue who is right/wrong, especially when it comes to experiential truth. To put it loosely, one school of thought (dvaitist) interprets/believes that reincarnation means being reborn several times until one reaches a state of realisation/enlightenment which is when one merges with God. Another school of thought (advaitist) interprets that reincarnation is not literal rebirth of the same soul, but more like passing of one soul's karmic energy to another. This means that, karma is passed on across human generations (kula vedhana) and is not literally the karma from 'previous births'. Where the 'soul' comes from, we do not know. People have their theories based on their faith, religions, belief systems etc. The beauty of it is that, regardless of what we believe (that there is a God outside, or God within), there is a possibility to make this present life free of suffering and filled with bliss if we understand the basic universal laws of karma. Sri Ramana uses self-enquiry approach to address reincarnation. He says the Real Self has no reincarnation. The Real Self is a state of union with the Universe. In this state, there is no sense of a separate individual. When one is close to that state, one begins to dissolve one's negative karma, and leaves behind positive energy for the future generations. Reincarnation and suffering applies only as long as one dies with unresolved negative karmic baggage.

@@MindfulSoul thank you for elaborate explanation. If there is no unit of universal energy as soul and no passing of karma with soul, then why should one follow Dharma path? we can do what ever is beneficial and easy to survive irrespective of its outcomes.
@MindfulSoul
@MindfulSoul 2 жыл бұрын
@UDAYA SREE, Karma is a natural law, and Dharma is the practical path of alignment with Karma. Dharma does not ask humans to follow its path. However, whether humans like it or not, if they lapse from the path, not only do they bring upon bad karma on themselves but also for their community/people around them. And that's what is happening in most places in the world, isn't it. Instances - like large corporates (eg: sterlite) causing environmental and ecological damage just to meet their bottomline - keep happening. 1) If someone asks 'why should I follow the Dharma path if I am anyway not going to reincarnate?', that is selfishness arising out of ignorance because that person is not considering the law of karma in its entirety. Such an intention could itself lead to appropriate karma befalling this person proportionate to the actions arising from that intention. Now, the question is who is going to bear the bad karma. It could be this person's children, family, society and future generations, and everyone he passes on his attitudes, beliefs, values to. This may or may not be good, and it's hard to draw a line and say that this is all good and this is all bad. Universe will give appropriate experiences to this person and the generations until they learn the lesson. 2) If this person follows Dharma only if his own soul is reincarnated, then that's egotism as well (because, it is all about an agenda now. It is like being a 'good student' so that the teacher gives him 'good marks' or incentives). 3) Another approach is - if this person follows Dharma irrespective of his soul being reincarnated. Why? Because, that is needed for collective well-being of humanity. This person would uphold good dharma selflessly, and perhaps even set an example for others to follow it. Here, selflessness does not mean giving up everything to the world and living in poverty (that is another form of ignorance). But it's selflessness of 'not doing good deeds because of an agenda, but doing good deeds because it is good anyway for the world in ways one does not know'. People fall in one of the three types above depending on their spiritual evolution. Yes, there are ignorant, selfish people in the world who do not follow Dharma, who do what is beneficial for them, who believe they can get away from their misdeeds with power or money. While such attitudes cannot change overnight, we can hopefully effect a change through dialogue and discourse.

There is no hurry to get anywhere. The Universe will bring to you all that you are prepared (and will prepare) to receive. 🙏🙏🙏 But to put you at ease a little bit, here is a hint: The mind carries 'vasanas' or social-environmental impressions (also known as 'conditioning' in psychology). These cause the mind to falsely identify with the body. As long as this identification is there (which is due to ignorance), there is reincarnation. This reincarnation is not literal but the transfer of the soul's subtle nature that contains the 'vasanas' into other physical bodies. But if the mind is dissolved by realizing the Self, there is no transfer of 'vasanas' or 'karma', which means there is no concept of rebirth and suffering. Sri Ramana says that when arrive at this the state of self-realization, you would not even have these questions. You might ask what is 'realizing the Self'? Yes, there is no individual identity based on the conscious and immanent athma which is also omnipresent but it does not mean there is no conscious and immanent athma or rebirth or reincarnation. It is because without the conscious, immanent athma nothing can exist or nothing can be perceived in its current form or no duality cycles can happen (including reincarnation cycle). This is Sankhya Vedic metaphysics (around which the whole hindu/tradition was built including yoga and tantra) which can be validated by logic, double slit quantum experiment and embodied experience (direct knowledge through focus and meditation) Birth/death duality continues due to "vasanas" (or memories or smells) unless one practices Kriya 40 seconds before the juncture of birth/death duality cycle. Ramana Maharishi did not say no reincarnation. He just said that it is limited only to people who falsely identify with thoughts and body due to lack of knowledge, violate dharma (or natural law - so the purpose of hindu tradition is to prevent violation) and those who are attached to everything and falsely assume that they are the doer. The conscious, immanent and omnipresent athma is NOT the doer (neither act nor react) even though the experiencer of 5 senses. TAT TVAM ASI - you are that. If Ramana Maharishi had said no athma then why would he ask his famous question to everyone he met - who are you? or who am i?

Correct. Ramana Maharishi did not say no reincarnation. @Gerard Daly, to give more context, Sri Ramana had two answers to the question on reincarnation. One was the 'bitter medicine' for those in advanced stages of self-inquiry, while the other was 'sugar coated' for those who are generally ignorant (no judgments). The former is that reincarnation is not true if one realizes the Self. The latter is that, if one thinks of the self as an individual (which is ignorance), then that ignorance would continue through the cycle of births until the final stage of evolution of consciousness.

@@rkbroger6327 Jesus did not exist.Jesus was a figment of imagination of the Jewish mother of Constantine, Helena. If you still like to believe he existed, at least try to validate the nicene creed claims of Christianity like ``Virgin birth ``'' son of god". if you don't validate, then you are just blindly believing that he existed based on fantasy stories propagated as history.. Magdalene existed but so called Jesus did not. She was obviously the wife of a person called Damsa (a sidekick of APOLLONIUS OF TYANA). Apollonius of Tyana (an enlightened pagan sage) was suppressed but his sidekick Damsa was propagated as the enlightened one and he was re-named as so called 'Jesus". This is nothing but identity theft.
