Thanks for a very informative video! I'm wondering about taking a real famous person from many years ago, 1800's, and creating within context the technology or material culture of that period an event that didn't really happen in their lives. I'm doing this with a couple of significant parallel stories to the main story line in my novel. They are events that would be within the realm of possibility, yet not an event that actually happened in that famous person's life. Is that wrong? Will readers be angry?

But . . . history is not accurate. It's written by individuals with a point of view of their own, which often distorts history, because its view is so narrow. So one person who experienced one part of a historical event can write it up, and someone from a different class or race can write a history that's completely different from the first one-that fills in gap after gap or even outright refutes the other. Then you have archeologists' interpretation of finds they make, which is more invented the further back it goes.

So true - you can’t easily separate history from story because history itself IS a story. 😅
