My male Caique, "Mista Mischief," (!) bit my friend's (fortunately extremely well-behaved) Black Lab Service Dog, Tal, on the nose! 😀 Why? Tal had the audacity to sit up to be sure his owner was ok when Mista MIschief jumped onto her shoulder. Mischief was like "oh no, you don't understand, this is MY person!" and he ran down my friend's arm, jumped onto her lap, ran over to Tal and bit him on the nose! SO BOLD is he! The Caiques kept looking at the camera screen...looking at the other 2 Caiques and the other you?? I've often wondered, when watching parrots being filmed, if they aren't confused about what they're seeing? They don't know it's them, right? The same concept as mirrors and the connections our feathered friends make with them? Just wondering, if that could be what was causing their unusual "beakines" and extra "finger-nibbles" and any nervous behavior during this vid's capture? Love your Caiques...I enjoy all the presentations of all your flock. Thank you! 🌻🌻🌻

Hi there Kalyn! How are you feeling? I love that you are a spiritual woman with all your beautiful parrots! I'm sure the peace and serenity that gives you passes on to them and makes the whole experience so much stronger and healthier. You are very lucky. I had the experience of losing my son back in 2013, he was 27 and I miss him and think of him everyday 💔 and now that I have 2 caique parrots I feel more content and relaxed. At peace. I feel like I have 2 children again. Not that they would ever come close to the bond I had with my boys, but its nice! Im busy, not depressed. Kiwi & Ozzy are doing well. They seem to be getting along better each day. I question a lot of things they do, like Ozzy is always trying to touch beaks with kiwi. When kiwi is in his cage and ozzy is out, he will put his beak through the cage and kiwi does the same. But then other time ozzy seems aggressive. I think too that ozzy gets frustrated with kiwi when he screams everytime he gets close to him. Kiwi gets scared. And I've been calling Kiwi a male but the timidness, being so skittish and he/she is tiny compared to ozzy. I feel like this is a female caique. I wasnt going to have the dna done cuz the avian Dr. didn't have the kit to do it and I just decided to forget about it. But now I want to know. What are your thoughts on this? Sorry for making this long again! 🤫 Have a nice day! Hope the weathers nice down there in sunny Florida! ❤

Obviously I love this video. You hit it on the head. They are frequently rehomed because people don’t always do their homework and find out they just can’t deal with them. They are giant birds in little bodies. My main flock is comprised of females. They all get along and feed off each other. We say they have ADD! They can be little terrorists and get into mischief. They can also be loud and noisy. Most of the time I don’t notice it. I’ve had an Amazon, African Grey and fostered a Blue Pionus. I am first and foremost drawn to Caiques. My flock loves vegetables and nuts, not so much fruit. They can be nippy if you don’t read their body language. I agree they love baths. Most of mine love to go into the shower the rest like a large soufflé dish I have for them. I guess it boils down to doing your research before bringing one into your home. I had 3 of my girls while I had the Pionus. Despite the fact the Pionus was a larger bird my girls became a tag team of bullies. So it was necessary to keep them in separate areas. Thank you for brightening my day.🥰❤️🥰
@ParrotBliss3 жыл бұрын
I agree, the research is important. There is a parrot personality to match a person's, I'm sure. It's finding the right 'match.' When I was researching, or when I do now, I never felt like the descriptions told me much. The "clowns" of the parrot world really doesn't explain what it's like to have one and live with it. What was the Pionus like? They used to be on my bucket list, but I chose a Golden Instead...
@1hawaii213 жыл бұрын
The Pionus I fostered was a lovely bird. He was sweet, gentle and quiet. He liked being scratched on his head and neck. The one word I would use to describe him is, calm. That doesn’t mean he was dull and boring. He was pretty laid back. Certainly not like Caiques!

Now...living in an apartment where they fly free (all covered in wooden floor) it was a precious piece of info when you mentioned these two caiques poop a lot, so I think they could’t be the birds dor me. How’s that with Golden Conures? Cause I’d really love a “grabby” pet😜🥰 Tks!! Regards!!

I have a video in which I talk about preferring Parrotlets to Lovebirds; they are easier than Golden Conures though. Goldens poop, for sure. More than a small Lovebird, less than a Caique.
@murphychurch82512 жыл бұрын
I hope you haven't moved in lovebirds with your budgies. Two of my 6 budgies were kept together with lovebirds by the previous owners and the lovebirds injured the budgies' feet. One of them has one dislocated leg ever since and just one toe left on the other foot. There seem to be some risks to keep these birds together, especially with little room to keep them apart. 🤔

Enjoyed the video, but more talking\ and less playing might add to your next video. My Caique is now 14 years old and I've had him sense hatching. My Caique (Maxx) enjoys the company of the 4 Parakeets that I have just to keep him company. He even lets them eat out of his bowl when he's eating. I used to rescue Cockatoos, and talk about a WORLD of difference between these birds. But a Caique is a great smaller bird for people who have the time to deal with them.
