This really drives home how much of an oddball our caique is. She's a decently calm cuddle fiend who has about a dozen words/phrases she likes to say regularly. We expected a hyper hop, instead we got the sweetest featherball chatterbox we could have asked for.

Wow, that was a really quick response to my question! Thank you very much :-) They are amazing, I smiled through the hole video like a little child! At a rescue in my area they have one black headed Caique (already 20y old), but they give him only in experienced hands, and if you have an adult hen for him (here in Germany you must have at least 2 parrots of each species, preferable of opposite sex and not related). I doubt they let me adopt him, since I had no parrots my during working life. If have still a few years to work, but I am working from home, now. I will see, if I can find an older hen and then try to adopt the cutie from the rescue.
@ParrotBliss3 жыл бұрын
I heard that from another person, that you must have two parrots of a species in Germany. I like that. I agree with it generally speaking, after all sometimes there could be some exceptions. I always recommend that people get two parrots of a species. They just are so much happier and they still bond with people. I hope you can find a hen. I don't believe there's any difference between the black headed Caique and the white bellied as far as behavior and personalities go. Keep me updated! I will try to make more cake videos too

Our young female is a feisty, sweet, stubborn, crazy, loving, and incredibly intelligent little gal who gets along with our cat and bunnies and sometimes our small dog. She lives in my office in an open cage (which he loves and sleeps in) and, given that I telework, spends 3-4 hours/day with me. She does have a very limited vocabulary ("step up," "wanna go poopy") but is mostly a beeper. She also has her morning shriekfest at roughly 10am every single morning. 10/10 love her to death, but I would not recommend one unless you're going to spend a ton of time with them.

High. I have an issue with one of my 2 young caiques and maybe you are willing to help me out. The first one I bought , aged about 7 weeks, there was no issue at all with that caique. Very tame little birdie. The other one I did buy 2 weeks after the first one. Aged about 5 weeks. Also very tame. But now the issue is coming in for me (.) with the second one. Since I have this young one it is screaming almost all day. Baby Caiques do screaming when hand feeding or are asking to be feed. No problem at all for my ears. But this young caique is also screaming after he got his crop full and I take the bird for a 'hug'. Each 5 seconds it produces 4 /5 bursts of screams. When I put the bird back in the big cage with his slightly older buddy, he keeps screaming. Yes, after about an hour screaming it takes a short break for a couple of minutes but then his concert starts again. His buddy, on the other hand, is the opposite, it whistles and chats some caique language. No screaming. 2 questions also: is this normal caique behavior and is there anything that can be done about that constantly screaming. Thanks in advance for your advice.
@ParrotBliss9 ай бұрын
No, this is not normal. Take your Caique to the vet, it may be screaming because it is sick. I hope this solves it for you.

The point I usually try to make is that it depends on your lifestyle. I can't say because I don't know anything about your lifestyle. For example, an Amazon would not be as good of a choice in an apartment or if you had children- not that a Caique is ideal either. I don't know the circumstances to provide advice and don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.

Yeah that sums them up pretty good. I would also like to add that they are gremlins. Caiques likes to be naughty as soon as you turn your back on them. They chew everything made out of wood and sometimes plastic too. But they are very friendly once you've earned their trust. And btw, there is no difference between a blackheaded caique and a whitebellied caique aside from their appearance. Some people say they have different behaviours but that is simply not true. I have one of each (same sex of course) myself.

It loves to play with my hand, for hours and hours. It talks but only 2 words. It whistles a couple of short tunes. It eats everything and that's what worries me a bit. @ParrotBliss one of ours is a black headed and very caique like. The other is a bit of an oddity in regards to the fact that she was hand fed as a baby and nearly 2 years in, she's still stuck in baby mode and wants tons of attention, with all the associated baby noises thrown in for good measure. Very cute.
@reefgratos20352 жыл бұрын
Why are they so freaking expensive? A baby cost like $2500 in my area. I used to play with black head at my exotic pet store and they are so funny and cool.. but omg $2500. I had a conure and thats what i can call noisy.. so noisy that i gave my conure to my parents.. its my way to thank my parents for yelling at me all my childhood lol.. so i bought a Senegal instead.. they are cheaper than caique. About the same size, Senegal are much more calm than caique. They talk alot too. I can leave my senegal in its cage for weeks and he doesn,t seem to get bored.. My senegal laught when i make a joke,, im no kidding… i swear my senegal seems to understand what im saying. The only thing i hate is that it has a tendency to only loves me.. he won't let touch him unless its me, it will bite unless i put him on someone else who isn't moving. I wish my senegal was more social.. but i wish i had a caique. But i doubt i have enough time to spend.. and certainly i don't have the $2500 to spend either. My wife won't be very happy if i come home with a caique.. especially if that caique bites. I had been bitten by a small cacatoo once…i was bleeding so much that i had to go to the emergency.. no more big parrot for me. Like in your video, each parrot have their own personality. Some will bite more often than other.
