Great video. I’m a chicken. Sedation surgery was the only way to go for me. My anesthesiologist was great. I counted to 3 with a deep breath at every count and the line was placed. He gave me something that slowed everything down and a second dose of something that knocked me out. I don’t remember anything about the surgery, the wheelchair to my car, my husband driving home, entering my house or even my husband helping me to the bathroom. It would be foolish for anyone to get into a car with a stranger still under the influence of sedation.

I need to have a cleaning where I have some implants and a surgery for a resection I think it's called. The doctor offered me IV sedation and I said no. I had different procedures in the past, including surgery and never had an IV. I prefer just a local anesthesia.

My dentist said I could drive immediately after nitrous oxide. I didn’t but ultimately was transported to the ER by paramedics because I stopped breathing and started having seizures. Not once were my vital signs checked until paramedics arrived and checked them. The dentist was shoving temporary crowns on my teeth as they were ready to load me into the gurney. I began choking again, my husband told them, “she’s choking!” Three weeks later, severe abdominal pain and a 5cm foreign object was removed from my upper to mid intestine, perforating my intestines. Ingested material from the temporary crowns! Still recovering.

I am having an upper mouth extraction with immediate denture afterwards with iv sedation. I am scared to death! I want nothing more than to have them start the sedation and wake up with everything done so I can feel pretty!

Thanks for making your videos. I have dental implant surgery next Friday. I'm a big dental chicken and I've not had the best of luck with some dental procedures and the dentist that did them. Several years ago I was in need of several procedures that I was afraid to get done. Then I heard of sedation dentistry. I found one that marketed to dental chickens so I went for the consultation. The dentist didn't have the best bedside manner which should have been the tip off but I needed the dental work. I went back after paying up front and it was not cheap and he puts the iv in and i'm out. Next thing I know I can feel pressure on my head, my mouth like i'm being pulled in a tug of war. I woke up to what looked like a bloody pair of pliers in my mouth as he was nearly lifting me out of the chair pulling on a tooth. He finally noticed I was awake cuz I was moaning and saying stop, stop. He then administered additional drugs to knock me out. Days later I returned to have the stitches removed and not only did he not apologize for causing additional mental trauma to someone who already has a huge fear of going to the dentist he presented me with an additional bill of $400 for the extra sedation he gave me when I woke up. I gave him a review on yelp recalling what happened -all I wanted was an apology. He denied the story and said I wasn't a patient.

hello, someone who had root canals done on every fkn tooth here! everyone is different and it depends on your existing tolerance to things like that definitely let your dentist know about your concerns, to make sure you are as comfortable as possible!

The amount varies significantly depending on the person (regardless of body size) and length of procedure. The beauty of IV sedation is that they can titrate the dose since effects are seen very quickly.

Hoping y'all can answer this soon because I'm getting two teeth pulled tomorrow, taking Valium in about an hour and a half, one tonight, one tomorrow before the extraction. I'll be having nitrous during the procedure as well....and my doctor never mentioned anything about not eating before. Did your doctor ever tell you to not eat?
