I'm personally excited for the standard server. My original exposure to EQ was back in the early 2000's but then i stopped playing around the PoP era. What actually brought me back was P99 Green server, i played that for about a year and decided to go Live with Thornblade. Thornblade was fun but i got bored of it around Velious, the random loot was awesome for awhile. However, it got boring to me really fast. I found that it kind of killed the excitement of raids for me. You could go to 2 different raids and get the same loot tables for both. Or alternatively, you could hit the jackpot and completely deck out your character in just a couple raids leaving you raid logging. I'm looking forward to hopping on a server where items drop where they're supposed to drop and it will be a slow enough pace that you can level alts on the side or raid casually. I have my questions about whether it will stick though. I think too many people got spoiled off of Mischief/Thornblade. We shall see!

I think the idea of Vaniki overwhelms people that are expecting that just because X expansion is out means you are expected to clear it. I think Vaniki could be fun if you simply focus on things only a little bit above where you should be for your level. At level 40 & 50... focus on classic / kunark / velious raids for the most part. At level 55 focus begin raiding luclin... at lvl 60 focus on raiding planes of power / gates of discord. Doing gates of discord at level 40 is probably not a realistic goal... so simply don't set that goal for yourself / your guild. Keep in mind that your guild could also raid very high level grouping zones for gear. Which could be an activity somewhat unique to this server.

Vaniki being a lower Level Capped server certainly sounds intriguing and I'd imagine the more hardcore guilds from the usual TLP servers may go there for the challenges mentioned. Yelinak might be a bit more open than the normal released TLPs!

@@IonBlaze1 At higher levels, this may cause Darkpaw to be forced to revise some old decisions. CoTF HAs don't use COTF scaling, they use TDS scaling. TDS HAs don't use TDS scaling, they use EOK scaling. TBM HAs don't use TBM scaling, they use RoS scaling. So the HAs to progress these are whole generations and sometimes whole level brackets past their expansion, combined with the level cap being 10 /under/ the expansion when Vaniki rolls them out. Even with level 90 raid gear, I don't see level 95s completing any TBM content that's been scaled using the Ring of Scale formula as being very likely.

@@IonBlaze1 If they do revert that (it was done to try and force people into the Kunark and Velious content when Velious came out) then TBM will resume its original role, which would be nice. Alternate progression and gearing path for 75-105, to get you into the new stuff.

Hey ION, any chance you could do a "returning players" type video on how to get going on each of the new TLPs coming soon? Not stuff like download a UI and Brewall maps, or what character is best etc. Like where to go, tips and tricks of places to hunt or how to make a LOT of plat as fast as possible (like qeynos bard quest is the ONLY way that I know to get money to start the game). etc . Like information for returning VETS, not noobs that have never tried EQ. please, thank you?

I'm actually excited if the new server allows boxing. I said on progressioneq s channel, this is a competition server. They definitely pulled this out because mischief will not fall this year.. It's the best truebox server there is. IN fact it's gonna make people who don't normally play to omens stay far beyond that. Probably the only server that will make it to live with a playable population. If they don't release another like it. Lastly, these people I mention will stick around TLPs for longer in the future. Once you learn some of these later expacs, you will fall in love with some of its content.

I play on mischief and really enjoy it. I wonder if you could do a video explaining to those of us who don't have an instant reaction to whether this is good news or not, what might the pros and cons be to trying the new yelinak server vs staying on mischief? I had one player tell me that starting on a new TLP server is just amazing. Thanks for keeping the content coming.

If you dont mind, i can give you my take on it - If you intend to play a more "hardcore" style game, Vaniki might be an interesting thing to give a shot. However, if you consider yourself more of a casual player, i would honestly stick to Mischief, i hear the population there is still rocking and healthy. The only thing a server like Yelinak has going for it, because its a very boring ruleset with absolutely no interesting aspects, is that is new and fresh and will attract people for a good bit. Meaning, you get a populated world and groups all that way to max. This does have appeal, but the question is, is that better than the fun you can have by random loot on another populated server like Mischief? I intend to start EQ again myself - And im leaning pretty hard towards going back to Mischief over Yelinak myself and giving Vaniki a pass, because that type of server doesnt appeal to me personally. Anyway, my 2 coppers

Hello! I was wondering if you’d be willing to do like a “How to” on raids for dummies 😳. Like how to go to a raid or find a raid or get invited in a raid and is it just all your guild members or can anyone join any raid because I’m getting to the raid level and I honestly have no clue where to begin... I used to play Everquest when I was 11-15 but I’m 32 now and just getting back into it and honestly I played to level 46 I believe back in 2001 but I just goofed off a lot and didn’t really engage in quests or anything. So coming back into it in 2022 I feel like I have no clue what I am doing. I have a level 40 mage and I got 37 of those by soloing but I’m wanting more from it now I want to go on my first raid but I don’t want to suck at it and I don’t want people thinking omg never again will she come on a raid with us 😭!!!!

I am so confused about Vaniki. What is the point of opening with GoD expansion at a level 40 cap? You think anyone is going to be able to touch any raid beyond classic with level 40 cap? (and lvl cap will be achieved in the first day with PoP ports and Luclin xp) It doesn't matter if your spells will land easier, level 40 is capping it at mid tier spells. The biggest nuke will be what, 500 before mitigation of the mighty? Buffs will be gimp as well, necros won't even have DMF for example. On the last TLP round, the top zerg guild couldn't even drop Vox on their first attempt, with about 80 people at an average level of probably 48-49. It's rarely about whether DPS are landing spells, but whether the tanks can survive long enough, and I really don't see how lvl 40 tanks with lvl 40 buffs are going to be anything but fodder.

I think they chose GoD because all classes are available by then. They can't change the class unlock code. But yeah I'm not sure how it's going to pan out

Starting in GoD is odd. The request for years was to start a progression server with all classes, but in classic. Doubt it was ever feasible… but with that said, they are making a lot of changes in past few years. It’s likely not a hard change to just open up all classes and make it balanced for early eq? There is SOOOOO much content opening in GoD. I feel like you would never catch up?

@@jeffreyw8569 They can't seem to give the community what they want without adding some quirk that they thought up out of nowhere. Free trade on a tlp was requested for years, would have been easy. But then they do it and add in the random loot tables, going through so much work that was never asked for, and who knows when they will do free trade again even though it's pretty much universally liked and wanted on all tlp. Now with this, many have wanted all classes from launch, and opening at GoD would have been the easy way to do it, but then they had to create this lvl cap thing. It's like it would hurt their pride to simply give the community what they want without adding their own element just so it gives them a sense of creativity or something.

Just to change stuff up. If its your first time, I'd recommend the normal tlp server, Yelinak for a more baseline experience.

They still haven’t said anything about the more interesting aspects, like if they are sticking to truebox or what iteration if it. As for the servers, Yelinak is dead right off the bat, no one wants a long unlock server with nothing special going for it. The lvl cap one will appeal to some for sure, but to its a weird way to grant people beast lords and berserkers and it will quite likely be the zergiest Zerg server we’ve ever seen. These servers was, to me, a big let down

Agnarr style? sure! This type of level locks/unlocks? No, Strikeout imo. What people? I've never heard of this idea until they released the rulesets yesterday, and I've played the game almost everyday for many many years. I assume the 50 people that post on the forums about this stuff? Not a knock on those people but in my experience the forums are a GROSS misrepresentation of the average player in game and I find myself happier and enjoy the game more when I stay away from the forums heh. There has to be some sort of ulterior motive for these servers because I cant believe anyone would think a hardcore server is gonna be more popular or attract more than Mischief style, or even live servers. I'll be shocked if they have any sort of decent population after the initial rush to try it.

Maybe your 20 years of following EQ hasn't been as broad and comprehensive as you think. Maybe you aren't in the same discords or twitch steams I'm in/watching and that's okay. I also never claimed it would be better, merely something different. There is already a mischief server, not sure we need another one this year. As you alluded to, I'll probably be back on mischief after 3 months after the novelty as worn off. They can't all be homeruns. Sometimes a base hit is enough :P

Why would anyone want to keep on starting over and over with development doing nothing for PVP or class balancing? This company Daybreak won't even respond to a ticket anymore, and they will suspend/ban you in a heart beat with no warning. Takes too much time investment to have it all yanked by idiots, no thanks.

@@IonBlaze1 very good on Mischief, Thornblade was an over flow server anyways. As a guild we voted to switch to mischief. To be honest random loot and full tradeable is the best thing they came up with Ion. Because of the fact that even smaller guilds in our server can go kill easier targets and get quarm loot for example : PON shade mini boss gave phase4 loot ! So you could get a shinai with a 3 box setup like me monk sham rogue. Terris Thule me and my brother did it weekly and 7th hammer as a grp of 6. And we were getting quarm loot

As a heavy moloer, there's a path to doing that, but I don't know if it's entirely viable anymore, and it requires that you A - be a reliable splitter class, B - either be able to take a hit or have a tanking pet, because some of the mobs summon and you can't just skip them. Gribble 1, 2, 3, and Marla 1, 2. They are the easiest of the COTF HAs to molo, and even with the scaling change remain feasible with group gear. Marla pays 2-3 times the marks as gribble does, so doing those is kinda crucial to progressing gear. That will viably get you to 100 or so. Problem comes after that. The scaling changes from there on turn real sour. XP drops significantly unless you go to TBM or EoK stuff. But even non-HA TBM stuff is scaled harder than anything TDS threw at you outside of raids, and if you can't transition into *good* TDS gear (not just T1 castaway) or into TBM gear, then the little bit of non-105 overworld stuff is gonna wreck you. The HA stuff, you need to keep in mind that they changed the scaling to Ring of Scale, which shows the most in the named special nukes and aoes (which they default target at the healer). Often, they will one-shot a merc at that level unless you've been going all-in on HP and Spell Resist and survival gear for them. This is the breakdown point I find for moloing. Prior to the velious launch (when they did the scaling change) you could grind TBM HAs until it was time to go to Lcea, and have a full set of 105 gear. Not as good as the EoK gear, but it doesn't require you to be able to drop EoK named mobs, so you could get some more levels under your belt before trying. I really do think that scaling change to try and force people into newer content was about as good of a decision as the original decision to lock plane of fire behind a raid flag.
