Being a vent certified paramedic on an ambulance since 2007. I'm also on cpap. This implant you spoke of I don't know much about. But I see on a daily basis how much the general public has a distrust for the healthcare industry in general. It would take a lot of convincing for me to trust an implant to assist with my respiratory drive. The healthcare industry on numerous occasions has not been forthcoming with the public especially in the area of adverse reactions to different meds and procedures. Keep up with the great vids! Thanks!

Several years ago, I was so tired all the time, I had trouble staying awake. Not good during business meetings and driving. Went to a sleep doctor and did a home sleep study. My results were awful. He recommended a lab sleep study. The tech hooked me up on my head, legs, arms and chest. He said he would let me sleep for 4 hours, them would wake me and put me on a CPAP. After 3 hours, the tech woke me up and said I wasn't doing well and put me on a CPAP. When he retuned in the morning, he said I did much better on the CPAP. The lab results showed I had severe obstructive sleep apnea with 80 apneas an hour. The sleep doctor put me on the Resmed AirSense10 CPAP with a 5-15 setting and using the Resmed P-10 pillow mask. The first night using the CPAP, I woke up feeling refreshed and felt great. Two years ago, I switched to the AirSense 11. Since the first day of using a CPAP, I have responded well and my apneas are under 0-1 per hour. I switched to the Brevida pillow mask 1½ years ago after watching your video, and my leak rate has plummeted. Most nights, no leak rate is detected on my Resmed report or maybe under a 3. Overall, I'm doing well on CPAP. Sorry to hear you have CVD. Hope you recover soon and get back to feeling normal. Prayers for ya buddy.

Hey Jason, just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your videos and how much it has helped me with my CPAP therapy journey. Been on CPAP now for 2 years and for about the first year and a half, I struggled so much with my therapy but after finding yours and Uncle Niko’s channels about 6 months ago, you both gave me such helpful tips and tricks with everything I’ve been struggling with. My therapy still isn’t perfect by any means and there’s still issues I’m working on, but your channel has saved my life! Watching your channel had me going off the deep end buying and researching every single tool and trick to fixing my leak rates. Thank you!!!’

I have tried almost all the items you have suggested! You are so helpful! You forgot to mention the cervical collar! Awesome results! I have no sleep apnea on some nights! We bought a new bed, I found a new pillow, a learned how to change my reamed sense 11 and my doctor gave me permission to, I tried the cover stretch tape and it does work, but the collar works even better, a sleep on my side, I use the P10 pillow masks and can handle it, I have been using the CPAP machine since March 2023. Thank you so much! I even used the O2 ring for a period of time and that helped me. And I use the Oscar program! I think that's it!

Jason, I have watched probably over 100 of your videos since being diagnosed with sleep apnea in November 2023. You have given so much good advice in your videos that helped me finally adapt to using a PAP machine. Now, since I know so much, from watching your videos on various subjects, I can say this is a wonderful summary and I actually understand almost everything you said!😅 I'm thinking about 85% the way there, and could improve my experience maybe another 10%. Right now I'm taking a rest because it is hard work advocating for yourself in this area. Luckily I got a pretty good doctor after the third try. I plan on downloading OSCAR, getting an O2 Ring and then go out to your site to see about your sleep analysis services. Here's hoping you feel better soon.

Baby shampoo (including big chain store knock-offs of the big name brand one) is another option for cleaning. It is relatively cheap like dish soap, but, unlike dish soap, doesn't have a de-greaser that will break down silicone. One other thing people should try and convince their doctors to do is to have a titration study. 2 people I know from work who got diagnosed after me were given full face masks and put on auto cpap by the doctor/dme and each failed cpap. I, on the other hand, was given a titration study with a nasal mask after my diagnosis from the home sleep test.

I have CA's in the 15 AHI neighborhood, "doctors" tell me they'll go away with time, and to continue using my CPAP at 7CM. After 3 months of that, I purchase my own ASV off craigslist and with some time tweaking settings, I consistently have an AHI under 1. Showed my "doctor", they still refused to Rx my an ASV, and said patients do better in the long run on CPAP. Also, I'm on Suboxone, which causes CA's. No, things shouldn't be this hard. The ONLY reason I didn't just drop out of CPAP all together is because I had the finances to purchase my own machine and the knowledge to go about researching and setting everything up. The whole thing is a joke otherwise.

This video has really resonated with me. I was diagnosed using a "type 3 sleep study" at home. I was diagnosed with mild apnea 8.8, which was my diagnosed events per hour. I was put on cpap, and the first few months were great. Now, for the past 9 months, I've struggled. Mostly keeping the mask on all night. I was basically told when I got my machine to plug it in, turn it on, and don't touch it. Just let it do its thing. I appreciate your honest, no-nonsense videos on this topic.

You’re doing gods work lanky lefty. Fortunately I don’t have to bother with the machine or masks anymore for my ridiculously severe obstructive sleep apnea as I am 100% cured of it according to this emergency tracheostomy I had performed on me during a medical emergency where the EMT’s or surgeons or whoever unfortunately had to perform a traumatic intubation on me leading to bilateral vocal fold paralysis leading to the trach so I could breath and stay alive. Fortunately this was not as depressing for me as it otherwise should have been due to the unexpected benefit that it completely cures sleep OSA sleep apnea so long as I have the trach and I was also surprised to find out from my pulmonologist that some people actually seek this out as an elective voluntary procedure rather than having to wear the masks and use the CPAP machine. 😅

I’ve been using cpap for over 20 years and just tired of it as not much has improved in regards to cpap equipment as it’s the same garbage. It’s such a pain to try and get well rested when your sick and can’t breath through your nose and you use a nasal mask, The most important thing you need when recovering from a cold or flu or covid is sleep but cpap is impossible to use when your sick. Funny thing is you said we the user has to figure out things on your own which is 100% true. I always had to go in and get pressure adjustments and my cpap suppler would only do once I get a prescription from the dr and this was ridiculous and one time the person doing the adjustment asked me why am I alway asking for different pressure like I was an annoyance. When I got a bilevel machine it was a like thank God for this feature but the supplier refused to use it and said I needed to use the set pressure and I found out how to adjust it via some KZbin channel LoL I have never had to go back for adjustments because I’m not having little pressure issue anymore if I gain or lose 10 to 15 pounds and my breathing changes the machine adjust for what I need for pressure because the pressure adjust within the range I need.

I have a problem, no doubt because I'm overweight. I had a home sleep study. They prescribed CPAP. I looked at the cost, read a bunch of reviews, and decided it was going to be more cost and trouble than I could financially or mentally afford. If I were to pursue it, knowing I have Medicare Advantage insurance and am otherwise pretty (very) low in finances... where should I begin?

I was waking up gasping for air, covered in sweat. I knew that I needed a CPAP. I didn't care how accurate my diagnosis was. A few more numbers are irrelevant. A lab sleep study is cute and dandy but not with these ridiculous deductibles. Modern CPAPs will self titrate. So I opted for the home sleep study. American healthcare, at all levels, desperate needs common sense.

Been on CPAP for a year and my AHI was anywhere from 16-25. In June I asked my pulmonologist if I could adjust the pressure. I worke up to a pressure of 20 and now can get the AHI to 6 and sometimes below 5. My problem is my mask. I have the F20 with memory foam. I get about 4 hours with it before it is almost blowing off my face. Adjusting doesn't fix it. Sometimes I will switch out the cushion but most of the time I am too groggy from xanax so I just take it off and sleep another 4 hours. Any suggestions? I hope you get better soon.

Lab studies aren’t really a viable option for anybody who doesn’t meet what society decides is the “normal” sleep schedule, and I will never not be mad about it. Night shift workers, people with DSPS (not having an “acceptable” or “conventional” sleep window), we get substandard diagnostics and care because we’re not 9-to-5 types. I can’t have a lab study because they expect me to go to sleep at 22:00 and wake up around 06:00. I eat dinner at 22:00 and fall asleep around 05:00. My AHI with a home study was below 15, but as nice as a lab study with a tech would be? Not an option because my schedule isn’t acceptable. Sleep labs in hospitals should schedule tests around the clock, to meet patient needs. That’s a hill I’ll probably end up dying on, on account of lab tests during my sleep period not being a thing and being utterly unable to sleep with PAP.

I love how I'm not even fitting the UARS stereotype. I'm totally Neanderthal-shaped 😆

If you called that wouldn't be the website.....that would be me. I've been staring at the back of my eyelids for the better part of a week. I feel like I called everyone back, but maybe I missed one on voicemail. Sorry if you're one of them.

How about a "CPAP with COVID" masterclass? (using CPAP while dealing with a respiratory infection). Any words of wisdom? My own thoughts... I guess that this is NOT the time to give up CPAP. During the worst of it, I switched to a full-face mask because I needed to breathe through my mouth. I gargled with mouthwash/betadine (povidone iodine) and used betadine nasal spray before bed to lower the viral load, and I think that helped with the sore throat/dry throat. And I used the same stuff to hyper-sanitize my mask and tube, which was probably overkill. I wore a pulse oximeter with threshold buzzer at 88 to let me know if I was suffocating. 😱 I guess this one's obvious, but I took my CPAP machine to a different room away from my girlfriend (and she didn't catch COVID from me). I've had two mild cases of COVID and I think what I did for PAP therapy helped. Get well soon

The SnoreMD MAD (40$ at Walmart) is not bad... much cheaper than a dentist device... and it will let you play with advancing your jaw... I found that it gave me 2cm pressure reduction in my CPAP, not really that much... and they're not comfortable. Those sucker things that hold your tongue? Big scam, 40$ wasted... uncomfortable and unusable. Somnodent? The silicone lip seal? Doesn't hold when your cheeks puff... more money wasted. I use CRST tape *with* my Vitera FF mask... helps with jaw drop as well as drooling and mouth-breathing, I'm at Herculean bi-level pressures (21/17) so using FF mask I don't have to do near the tape job, one piece does it... I treat my Vitera as a big nasal mask. I do use medicine to keep my airway clear... fluticasone oral for asthma and Afrin generic for the sinus... there are worse things to be addicted to. Sorry you got the covid, take care of yourself, get vaccinated folks. Never let your doctor talk you into another sleep study, especially if you're Severe... you don't want that torture, get a titration instead, ask for bi-level, they'll do a split night with CPAP and bi-level. Always ask for an Ambien before going in for a study or titration, that helps.
