While AB testing should in theory only test 1 thing at a time as you mentioned, the one problem I see with your method is that if you are testing anything other than the main cover image, you end up with 2 listings with the exact same image in your shop which for beginners who may not have tons of listings yet, it can look spammy to the customer to see lots of listings that appear to be identical based on the image. I've watched several other KZbin videos about this topic of AB testing and most recommend always changing the cover image to avoid this. Of course that means you are in effect testing the image as well as something else, so its not a true AB test, but it avoids the pitfall of having your shop look strange and/or spammy with duplicate listings that show the same main image. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Great point! So I would NOT recommend AB testing and changing the mock up photo IN ADDITION to something else. So maybe AB test main mock up photos until you have at least 100 listings if you are afraid it will look spammy. Also just keep in mind that people rarely pop into your shop. They look at the search results that are all mixed up with other shops and more often than not make there purchase from there with out ever actually looking at your actual shop. Hope this input helps you make some decisions! Happy testing!

A few weeks ago I stopped doing that and it has freed up so much time for me, I get at least double the listings out now! Really recommend this for anyone struggling with getting listings up! 👍 👌

Isn't it funny: my best selling shirt I have listed on a light shirt mock-up and a dark shirt mock-up. The light one sells very well. The dark one not at all. BUT: even though people by from the item that has the light shirt as first picture, they almost all choose a dark color shirt to buy. 🙃

@@shawnalynn2083 Hi Shawna, it's crazy, right. No, everythings else is absolutely the same. For one item I have a Bella shirt in natural on a model as pic 1. The other listing has a heather dark grey flat lay. Heather dark grey has almost no views, no sales. Natural has many views and over 30 sales (for me that is much😀and I listed it only 6 weeks ago) and 90% of the orders are in exactly the heather dark grey that doesn't sell in the other listing. I think the design looks cuter on a light shirt, but people prefer to wear darker shirts, so they go with less cute for their purchase 😉 Sales psychology... so much to learn here still 😂

How would that work? Thank you!!

Love this AB test idea! So I would do this test on new listings moving forward so you are releasing both at the same time. And I created my shipping profile through Etsy. Another amazing video Shawna! I love the reminder that we don't need to waste time syncing our listings to Printify but one thing I like about syncing it is that because Printify has so many prices depending on size and colour, you can just input your own pricing within Printify based on profit percentage or profit in dollar amount and then when you publish it, all the pricing goes into the Etsy listing. Which brings me to a question because this has caused me a lot of grief, do you price all of your shirts the same or do you base your prices on what Printify or in your case Printful (I assume they price each size and color different as well) and have different prices for all the different colours and sizes. Also, would love the series of videos that you mentioned.

Hi Shawna, I love the content you share. The tip to increase listing speed by not syncing all listings makes sense and I'd love more info on this. I start all my listing in printify so they're synced and it is an arduous process, especially when most listings don't sell. I'm confused by how you would process an order though, if not synced. Do you have to enter the first order manually? Customer address and everything? I'd love to see more explanation. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!

Hi Shawna! Really appreciate you and your super helpful videos. I have a question about A/B testing of SEO blocks which I can't seem to work out and that is: When following the advice to niche down within a large niche (eg 1st grade teacher instead of the generic 'teacher') or a more specific niche (eg Speech Language Pathologist or Skydiver or plant-loving-dog-mom) how on earth do you come up with 13 different tags for the A test, 13 different tags for B-Test, and two different keyword rich titles - with potentially 5-7 more new keywords? There are only so many relevant keywords you could use for a SLP or Skydiver shirt or gift. Even by following your (and Cassiy Johnston's course) advice on mining bestselling products in those niches for keywords, I'm struggling in some niches to find relevant/well-searched-for keywords for 1 listing, let alone 2. I suspect it isn't enough just to switch the order of keywords in your title and tags around for the 'B' test listing. Help, please! Thanks.
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hey there Tracy! Some niches are definitely harder to do this for than others! I will be putting a video together on the topic soon with examples! I do wind up using certain words over and over again. So for your skydiver example I would use the words skydiver and shirt over and over again but I wouldn't reuse the actual full phrase. I might go heavier into gift SEO in one of them with some phrases like gift for dad mixed in and maybe heavier into thrill seeker SEO in the other. Hope this at least gets you started!
@TraceyAlvarez Жыл бұрын
@@shawnalynn2083 Thanks Shawna. I think I see what you're getting at now - rather than the 'what' for both skydiving listings (skydiver shirt as an example), thinking more outside the box as a 'who' might buy the shirt. Definitely something to think about - looking forward to seeing this topic as a video! :)

Hi there! Unfortunately they don't use skus so it doesn't copy over! If you are starting in the POD company and pushing over to Etsy you are probably better off sticking with Printify for that. I am so glad you are enjoying this topic! I do use the sections to try to keep the niches organized a bit. I wouldn't test this though. THat won't have much of an impact! Hope this helps!

Amazing helpful video as always! At what point would you recommend starting this. I assume it wouldn’t be advisable to do this when your store is just new?
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hi there! I am so glad you are enjoying this topic! I would totally do this if my store was brand new! I would start with testing blocks of SEO! If that intimidates you... start with the mock up photos! One of them a flat lay and the other a live model!
@bethjoyce4666 Жыл бұрын
How long do you run a test? Right now my shop is basically dead so I don’t know how much data I can gather. Great idea about not pushing to Printful. I’m doing that right now and it creates extra work I don’t need. When lack of traffic is a problem, what test would be the best to start off with?
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hi there Beth! I don't ever really end the test... so I put the two versions of the listing out but I never deactivate one of them. I just make future decisions based off what I am observing. Great question! I would totally test two blocks of SEO if I were you! If you struggle with this one then do the two mock up phots instead... a live model and a flat lay! Good luck!

Hey, Shawna.I watched this video again and again, I had one question to ask for you:😊If I create hundreds of different designs in the same niche market, then I find it difficult to test AB with so many different designs paired with different SEO blocks. How do you handle this issue?
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hey Loli! If it gets hard to come up with different SEO blocks than you might switch to AB testing the main mock up photo... like a live model vs a flat lay. Keep me posted on your results!

Hey, Shawna. Do you do AB testing every time you create a new design? Also, would you like to so SEO block testing first and then pr to mockup testing? Or mockup first, then SEO block second?
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
HI there lolli! I would start with SEO for a bit first! If that intimidates you than do the mock ups instead. I run them on many of my designs... most of them. In a few of my niches I already have tons of data so not in those. I already know what works there. But now I am testing the pricing strategy on them! Hope this helps!

Curious to know why doubling down and constantly adding more listings is the secret to Etsy success when most listings simply do not sell.
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hey there! Adding more quality listings is the only way to scale your business up. It is also how you get momentum created. You will make 80 percent of your money from 20 percent of your listings. If you have100 listings than about 20 of them will make money but if you have 2000 of the right listings about 400 of them will make money according to this general rule of thumb. A/B testing leads you to understanding how to create more of those right type of listings. Hope that all makes sense.

Hi there! Thanks for watching! I have been thinking about doing a video about what I have learned about taxes so far! I am not super sure what you mean my "tax on seller fees." When you test keywords for title and tags, say you pick a good chunk with 500 visits each, how soon you should be seeing traffic and what minimum volume of visits you'd expect before going to the drawing board picking new keywords? is it normal for a store to barely pick views organically after a full year? lol
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hey Lenny! So I would need a little more info before I could say about the traffic? How many listings and how many. of those listings are actually different designs? ANd only one of the factors is time... the other big factor is number. So if I only launched 10 designs I wouldn't be expecting too much from that even after 2 or 3 months. Hope this helps!
@LennyYT Жыл бұрын
@@shawnalynn2083 so you wouldn't be looking at individual listings? interesting! For this store there are 600ish listings, paid traffic is moving the needle but I wish they were building their organic profile better to capitalize more on free traffic. Are you charged the $0.20 for every listing you copy/duplicate?

Hi lovely, thanks for this great video on AB Testing. Definitely interested in more! But I'm pretty sure when you duplicate (or copy) listing A and make a listing B Printify will recognize all your orders automatically because listing B includes the same SKU numbers! As long as Printify has the SKU numbers they should recognize any order. So it's not correct that you have to fulfill them manually, at least not for me! I've had duplicated listings sell and I didn't have to attach the order manually! But it's strange that it wouldn't work for you?
@shawnalynn2083 Жыл бұрын
Hi there! I use Printful (no SKUS) and many of my listings have two variations (one of them being the phrase or word on the shirt) so this makes it a little more complicated for me! Definitely a bonus that Printify has everything duplicate over and it is all synced up!
@Laflaqua-hg5yx Жыл бұрын
@@shawnalynn2083 OH Lord! Sounds hectic. But I know the bummer with Printify is that you have to upload all your listings to Printify first and then connect to Etsy, very time-consuming instead of doing the other way around, just connecting those that sell. anywho, see you in the next video! And enjoy your holiday :)
