My advice: 1.Don't be closed minded towards people who you wouldn't befriend back at home. You will find great allies in people you would never suspect. 2.If things become to overwhelming for you, don't seek a silk way to get out of your contact.Fake it until you make it ... to your EAS at least. ....Have fun,see the world...create lifetime stories to tell.

I decided to join the army because I want a better future. I'm 18 years old and been with my boyfriend since I was 14, he don't understand my vision or the purpose behind me joining. Growing up I didn't feel close to my family I grew up emotionless and because of him I knew there is something better in life. In my senior year of high school I was sick of it, I wanted to drop out and I gave up. No, it wasn't hard I just knew for a fact that after school I had nothing else going for myself. I mean how could I think otherwise I felt purposeless. My recruiter found me and talked to me about plans after high school, I told her straight up look my grades are ass and today is my last day here she asked me why and I told her because I was dropping out of school. she talked to me and told me about the army she told me that if everything else fail just give her a call and she had my back. After two months I realized that I don't want to sit around and have my boyfriend working hard to support the both of us alone, I realized that one day I want a family and I don't want to put them through what I went through. I called my recruiter and now I leave Monday for basic training. I'm going to do this because for the first time in my life I can see my future bright and clear. I am not afraid to go through this change, I do not care If I don't have an amazing support system, I don't care if my boyfriend think it's a bad idea. I told him he either right beside me or ten steps behind me I'm glad to say he is right on side of me and we plan to get through this together.

initially, this video was terrifying for me to watch, but it's also the first military video I've really watched ever since I decided that it would be my career choice. you were so honest and I love that. plus that last bit in your video was really motivating. I'm turning 18 next year, and as soon as possible I wanna join the military. no one around me believes in me, not even my parents, which of course sucks. I'm sure my parents are just worried? but my mom is deadly sick and we don't know how much time she has left, so I wanna show her that the legacy she's leaving behind is a brave one. I've always been unsure of what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I feel oddly sure now that I wanna join the military. it's frightening, but it's okay.

My best friend comes from a military family. I mean, I do too, but its only a few uncles and my g-pa. Anyway, she wants to join the military too and that got me worried. I dont know what shes going to go through, and if she will make it or not. Ever since 2nt grade, we've planed to spend our whole lives together and get jobs together. While she was sharing the idea with me, I found myself picturing all these terrible things happening to her. Then I said, "I'm not letting you do it alone, I'll come too." After I said those words, her face lit up, and I found myself serious and the desition was final after that. Now only a little while longer before we go to the seniors 6 month military camp.

Join if you really want to, not for any other reason. The military is a life changing things to be doing & if your not ready you'll be fucked. You can't just turn around & leave if you don't like it. Fuck research. I keep reading that shiit. Find an actual soldier you can talk to & get honest answers. Yall kids seem to be clueless these days. What's your parents thoughts. I'm an Air Force veteran. My kids said they couldn't handle it. I suggested they do something else. Choosing the military means making huge life choice sacrifices. When you have kids & a spouse they come second because the militarys mission comes first. I would always suggest JROTC from the 9th grade on up. That way, you get a taste of what you're gonna have to deal with. Taking orders isn't easy.

@Sean Rooney pointless dying? sure there’s definitely times the cause might seem pointless. but once you see suicide bombers. peoples using children as shields and killing there own people for not listening and watching there own people beg you for help and they are scared of there own people for asking you that question, it hits you. it dons on you there human beings just like civilizations in America. helping somebody outside America is different. you sit there and realize this is a place called earth and everybody is important not to segregate things by country. the work done is important

Yes, lots of smaller women do make it (even if some do have problems with ruck marching) When you are in basic (and AIT) you are psyched up to make it through the graduation requirements (even if you don't keep up with the extra stuff like the four or five mile company runs) to get out of there. After basic and AIT might be a different story. Good luck.

When you join the military protecting the country is #1 ! ! If you're joining the military for pretty much only for having a "job" you probably won't be very happy. Especially if a 'war' pops up you can't just all of a sudden 'quit'. Basic training is basically one big 'head game'. They're doing the yelling ect. to see if they can break you, to see how you handle stress, to see if you can learn to work as a team & take oders, also to build your body as well as your mind up. If you just do what you're told to do, work together as a team & help each other out you'll be fine. You are only as strong as your weakest link, so help out & don't be afraid to ask for help. Believe it or not your D I really cares about you and is very proud of you when you go off to A I T. MOS is military occupation specialty. A I T = Advanced, Individual, Training When trying to save money, see how many bonds you can buy & still have enough money to live on. When you have one or two bonds (or however many) taken out automatically then you don't miss it as much. They add up & time flys by believe it or not. You can cash in the bonds at any time but if you wait the ten yrs or so to when they've built interest you'll be ahead of the game. Also Vets can get really good help when buying a home. Again good luck & God bless. Good luck !!! I spent 14 years in the Army. 7 years as a D I & 7 yrs in ammo/explosives, combat soldier

This is great video for people considering it and 100% true. I am a fellow vet and I joined for the GI Bill and used the tuition benefits and ended up getting a masters with time left over while getting my rent paid. More important is I could focus on what I love to do, and it's hard to get that with economic/social pressure to work while doing this, that etc. I see a lot of people who join, and they have this problem where they forget why they join and retire even as enlisted but make it their life identity and have some hard time to adapt because outside of the military it's not so straightforward if you don't have confidence in what you are doing. Always keep your own goals in mind. It can even make you better at being in the military since you have a reason for what you're doing (I was a 4.0 sailor and always advanced, even though I was doing my own thing. Because I was really motivated). And for the homesick stuff, I would agree also. Even if you aren't close to family or parents etc like I wasn't, it is still hard to get used to. So I can't imagine for some of my shipmates. I disagree though for "don't join for the money". I grew up in the projects and it was a little hard to save money or even become stable like if I got the money people around me would steal (not to mention influences). it was a good decision. I don't have an amazing life or anything but love what the military did for me and I would suggest it if you are lost and can get a decent ASVAB score or don't have stability where you're from (but also don't depend on the military to fix your own issues once you're in/out). If you are someone who cannot seem to be making progress or not sure what you want to do, it IS WORTH it. You will see the problems you had to go through as really helpful and sometimes trivial/actually a good trade-offs vs most professional jobs later in life (especially if you are building on your goals in the meantime which is probably in than out as you have stability and structure). /End of boomer novel but thanks on the vid and just wanted to give more anecdotal perspective 15 years after my decision to join for people who came to hear on this topic.

The hell with sacrificing your life for your country. That's just straight up BS. Your job is to serve and come back alive. Don't believe the hype about dying for your country. That's just propaganda they use to get you to join. Serve and live and come home to your family, and not in a coffin.

It definitely made me feel better that you said how small you were 😅 My biggest issue is whether or not I'm going to be too petite to pass or not. Bmi's never worked in my favor, even though I've never been considered underweight by actual medical officials.

First of all...WOW there are a lot of negative comments on here such as "women shouldn't be in the military" for those of you who say/think that, just know that NOT ALL women are the same! Shocker huh? Some of us are even stronger than some men (yes physically & mentally). STOP stereotyping us!!!!! Put your egos aside and just shut up, let us live and be thankful someone is standing up for this country.🤫

I've been doing some research about all the military branches and I think the Army is what I'm interested in joining. I know the military isn't for everyone. I want to join possibly join the military to learn many things and how to overcome my fears while serving my country. However, my conflict is not being able to see my girlfriend often which whom I'm very close with. We've overcame many conflicts and I just don't want to possibly lose my relationship with her. I know she won't do that, but it's a fear I need to overcome badly. I think joining the military opens a lot of doors for people like me if they know all the possibilities going in and not treat it like its a fun game. Treat it like an everyday job, you know?

I respect everyone that has served, but one thing that really irritates me is recruiters that go in the high schools. They literally just go in there and advertise joining the military as if it is something that everyone can do. This one guy was literally just bragging about how he gets to retire early because of his service and then he tried to tell the students that they shouldn’t go to college and they should just join the military. What he forgot to mention is that you actually have to be physically and mentally able to join at all. Recruiters always have this attitude of “everyone can do it” when that is not the case. I wanted to join the military when I was 16 years old, but then I found out because of my eye condition that I can’t. My advice to recruiters would be either stay out of high schools or actually list off the reasons why you wouldn’t be able to join. They never seem to take into consideration that there are people that would willingly join but there are a number of reasons why they are not able to.

Military has great benefits..but it does not have to be your whole life. Finish your contract and leave if it isn’t something you don’t truly want to do. I love my job (56M-Religious Affairs Specialist) but the military isn’t for me. I’m on my last two months. I will miss curtain things..but I’ve served my purpose. Majority of everything she talked about is true. The biggest thing I would advise someone who is thinking of joining the Military is to TAKE CARE OF YOU FIRST!!!!!!! The Military will always go on..you won’t be in forever. Document everything and take advantage of all of the benefits. Hold your tongue?..mmmhh..just be tactful..you can speak your mind in a tactful way..don’t let people push you over. I never hold my tongue..and I’ve never been demoted or received an article 15.
