First response: "That's a very dangerous question." Word to Russians. In the United States, you're MORE protected, saying bad stuff against a politician than you are a regular person. If I tell a lie about a normal person and say, for example, that someone is a pathological liar, when they're not, I can get in real trouble. Sometimes it's more reading their inflections, and body language to understand what they truly mean with their answers. Great service showing the rest of the world the true Russian people. Okay, I'm only a couple interviews in and I already like the uncut better. It shows how talented of an interviewer you are. You ask fantastic follow-up questions and get really interesting answers. Seeing more of their body language in response is also really fascinating. I feel like I'm getting a fuller picture of how the Russian people think. I didn't think you were overly cutting before, I think you were just trying to get as many people in your focus group as you could per video. Not really... Putin is disconnected of the young generation who do not watch their tv propaganda. But their parents and grand parents do. He knows pretty well, that majority of Russia is still orientated to soviet times. That might be a huge problem for everyone under 25 but the others like this part to live in isolation. That's what they have been told and prepared for, especially in soviet times. They are like most of Trump supporters. Not interested in globalism, but in nationalism. So you are wrong when you say it's just Putin. It's not just Putin. Otherwise police, courts, opposition and his own party members would criticise his action. Putin prepared his machinery to be loyal and the others are silent because they are scared. The ones who do not accept that, leaving Russia. In total that means, that his dictatorship is making progress. There is a reason, why noone went on street when Putin changed their constitution in 2008 so he is now able to reign 6 years instead of 4. There is a reason, why noone went crazy (even the younger ones) when Putin did a referendum to get his years erased so he can reign till 2036. If you keep silent, you accept it. If you accept it, you are a part of this problem. So it's not Putin who attacked Ukraine, but the majority of RUSSIA. Many are unhappy because they do not understand why western countries sanction everyone. Especially the inhabitans suffer. For sure,.... as I mentioned before. They are responsible for that. Now let them suffer in isolation, so they can think about all these things happened in their country for the last 2 decades. Otherwise they will be same blind people as they are now.

Eventhough it has been answered at one of the comments, I would like to state it again for the non Russian speakers: The interviewer repeats the opening question which is translated to English as "Is Putin a great guy?". However this question carries a humorist double meaning as it could be also translated to "Is Putin handsome?" This makes the question sound lighter and answers funnier, though all the interviewed people grasp the real intent behind the question.

Perhaps now thanks to western social media, it is harder to erase someone's existence. That tennis star in China is a good example. China would have for sure loved to sweep her under the rug for exposing a high level offical like that. However, with combination of social media and MSM, they had a very hard time and had to threaten or buy her silence instead.

And you forgetting one thing (not justifying anything that happened to the tennis player), but this guys in video, me or you are just no-names to the whole world, while professional sportsman can already be considered as an influencer (remember Le Bron's twitter, just as example), so yeah, I guess China considered her openly stating things as a treat, but Russia ain't China (at least yet) and this kids are literally no-one without any influence, that makes difference, in the west you can't state some things openly as well, you won't be jailed I guess, but it's easy to get yourself canceled, destroying your career, business, e.t.c., in that case (cancel culture in wrong hands) maybe prison isn't worst outcome, at least you'll have food and bed.

Нет такого человека, которого бы любили все. А уж президентов тем более. Frist, almost everyone interviewed seems 'nervous' at your questions (particularly about Putin). That in itself, says a lot about the 'feeling' of true freedom or lack of it in Russia. And secondly, almost to the person, when asked if they want Putin to continue to lead Russia, ALL the answers were a 'quick' NO! That, also, says volumes.

So, I am Russian but moved to Canada around ~2 years ago and watching these interviews hurt a lot... personally to me, the way they all answer, the way they sway and change the theme it's all so unbelievably familiar. Even if many of the people accept the state of things their answers just seem off and I can say for sure that I'd answer in exactly same way, even if I was against the government. Whether subconsciously or consciously the fear of persecution for your opinions always persisted, and growing up I tended to pick up the habits from other people - to always sway from difficult questions, never say anything definitively negative in regards to government and etc. It's only now after moving out I've started to see just how prevalent this culture of "endure, but never speak up" is at home. It's not unique to modern Russia either, I think we've adopted it from people who lived in USSR, who also adopted it from previous generations. So tl;dr things are a complete mess.

One thing you don't get with news is unbiased neutrality, and it seems like this channel can provide that outlook from the people who matter most: the people. Would like to see the older generation highlighted more, however. I find it adds an interesting juxtaposition between perspectives since they have lived in the USSR in their lifetimes, and no matter their point of view/argument they usually say something wise in some way shape or form

It's just difficult to do with mainstream media, and I think a channel where you ask the people, on the streets, of all age groups, questions about the realities of the situation they unwillingly find themselves in and seek their true opinions is something to be valued. It makes it that much easier to make that separation and serves as a valuable insight into lives you won't find anywhere else.

Thank you for this video. I like how you present them just as you now do. I am glad and admire that some Russian citizens were brave enough to speak. It seems that most of the young people interviewed want change but still unsure how this can happen. Beyond humans differences is still the desire for peace and normal existence. It does seem in some countries that the older hate and distrust is pushed into the citizens by current leaders and is not allowed to become the past ( Ccp China also does this to their citizens ). They see baby boomers as have fkd the planet for them and have really grave concerns about its liveability for their future. We had free university, jobs grew on trees, housing was affordable and climate change was not even mentioned, even though we know now it was already well on its way. In Georgia we protected civilians of South Osetia that were killed by Georgian army (which attacked first). In 2015 we signed Minsk agreements with Ukraine to avoid big conflict and stop the war there. It was very simple - all territories stay in Ukraine but their government guarantees safety of Russian-speaking East of Ukraine and their right to speak their language. However, Ukraine wasn't interested in that at all. It is perfectly known fact that we will not allow NATO to be so close to our borders but they are strongly willing to do so. Ukraine wanted to gain from the West - and this is the result. Ukrainian government knew what would happen and they did what they did. The West continued to supply Ukraine with weapons instead of forcing them to act in accordance with Minsk agreements. They failed another agreement in Turkey in 2022. The US support any war that allows them to gain. And we perfectly see who is doing what. So we have no need to say anything against current foreign policy of our government that is doing everything to protect our country along it's borders. We dod not want our soldiers to die anywhere but the West was hardly working on organising another war conflict away from their own lands. We just have nothing to do but respond. That's it. P.S. Gulags were ceased by Nikita Khrushchev who was replaced in 1964.

The thing is that Moscow is not representative of Russia as a whole in terms of public opinion. Similarly to major cities in the west, Moscow is more Liberal and pro west than the rest of Russia. Moscow is said to have between 30-40% of the population that opposes Russia's current government. Similar situation in St Petersburg. In North America we don't get much exposure to Russians beyond the stereotypes portrayed by the media. I'm impressed by how sharp these random people are. Most candid on-the-street interviews here about politics and world events result in simplistic views on what are complex, nuanced subjects. Opinions that you can often tell are sourced from an amalgam of corporate media talking points, late night "comedians" and online echo chambers. I started watching this channel when I began Russian lessons, since it was great to hear different people speaking Russian in Russia. But I'm so glad for it now because of the perspectives I get. All my Russian teachers have been such wonderful people, and I've never met a Russian who wasn't extremely nice and willing to share of your culture, even putting up with my horrible attempts at saying anything in Russian. My heart breaks that they have been put into such an impossible position by their leader, and by the response we've made. I don't know how we could have done anything differently with the sanctions without just attacking back, so it's probably the least worst option available, but it's not good. And since I have so many Ukrainian friends too, I know that the scale of sympathy must weigh more toward their plight, since they are literally getting gunned down and have their houses destroyed by rockets daily. But I hope the Russian people remember that in focusing on what's happening to them, the majority of people in the West still don't like the fact that Russians are hurting from their "leader" too and we wish the optimal solution for BOTH people could happen immediately.

These guys will only destroy what they managed to save. Most of them will go after Navalny, and this is not good. You cannot follow a person who receives funding from foreign entities. No matter what anyone says, Putin has done a lot for the country. Of course, he has his own interests, just like the elite. There were a lot of bad things, and good things. But it cannot be denied that Russia is one of the few countries that has its own sovereignty. Europe, for example, cannot boast of this, like most other countries.

There is the same unreliable information here. The survey takes place among political hipsters who do not understand what is happening at all. They go to their Twitter and see news about the war and of course how their beloved West is against the war. And they accept the point of view of the West, because it seems to them that the West is honest and fair. The survey can be considered reliable if it takes place in more than one place in Russia and people of different ages are interviewed. The video shows a rather rich area of Moscow, all young and with smoothies. What can they know about? They are only interested in new models of iPhones.

Does Ukrainian people feel like they are being liberated? Should the west have expanded nato ? It wasn’t just nato that broke deals though either was it ! And what this is showing is that nato is now justified, the truth is the first casualty then all the millions that get lied to and are made to pay and suffer . I think these young Russians are beautiful and it makes me sad to see that they feel so restricted about what they say; freedom to speak and be yourself is so important. I’m from Australia and we are all obviously watching the war with horror. We are also feeling the sanctions with fuel and food price increases. Let’s hope for peace soon. ✌🏼❤️

Those are not the sanctions, that was happening before this war as a result of how we handled Covid by shutting down everything and printing tons of money for two years straight, and a lot of other little things. We where seeing high inflation and the start of a global economic crash before this happened, not that this makes it any better, but don't let anyone convince you that's all because of the war, because the ones responsible will definitely try to use that as an excuse to get off the hook. It's really way to early to say what effects these sanctions will actually have, that's going to take a long time. In the EU there aren't even sanctions on the oil yet, the EU has said they'll phase out dependency on Russian oil and gas by 2030, others have said within the end of the year. So far it's just the US that has totally banned Russian oil and gas. What you're seeing now is the result of the last ten years or so, mostly the last two. The effects of this war will come later. We have lying capitalists here in Norway trying to blame our record high electricity prices on Russia too, but those prices started before Christmas so that makes no sense at all.

Australia never had sanctions its a market economy and prices go up and down with inflation the prices go up nothing to do with sanctions.Nothing to do with China or Russia. The PM has managed to pi## off a number of countries , China, France, Serbia and now Russia. Mouth too large brain too small .He is responsible for Australia loosing trade to China (which the US picked up ) and soured relations with France and Europe.He blindingly runs after the US and makes decisions for the country without even consulting the parliament let alone the population.

I'm Russian postgrad. I think we've got something like "learned helplessness" here. Hope it might be overcome. I just wanted to study the beauty of a protein world, its evolution. I feel very sorry about all this mess... we're also praying a lot for Russia and Russian people here in Germany! Nobody here wants you to suffer or to lose life's possibilities. Many people also know that most conflicts are not only the fault of one side... NATO is not completely innocent. But tbh it has already scared me a lot over the last years when I heard about all that oppression of opposition or organizations like Memorial... Find ways to communicate through apps like Signal that are encrypted, gather people until you hit critical mass to make an organizational change in your country. It's hard to convey the extent of suffering we will all experience if YOU don't change the way your country is being run.
