Why do manufacturers have to take various tactics for in-camera recording of RAW video, or use such devices as Atoms to record externally, just because of RED's patent for compressing video RAW and storing it in the camera? I think it's as ridiculous to patent a principle as it is to patent "eating with forks and chopsticks".You can patent all kinds of algorithms of encoding, decoding, and file formats. But to just patent the method of "compressing data from the sensor and storing it on the camera's memory card" and using that to stop other manufacturers is an industry monopoly, and most of the time, industry monopoly is not a good thing. I respect RED's position in the industry and their vision, but I am not proud of what RED has done.

When is the converter being released? This would be extremely helpful as we are shooting a feature shooting the whole thing in ZRAW.

Since the official ZRAW decoder uses a custom FFmpeg they are bound by the FFmpeg license to release their changes to the source code. I wonder if they are even aware of that.

Can you provide the source of this info? It will be very useful for me!
@joesalyers3 жыл бұрын
@@StoryboardCreativity Look at the FFMPEG License page. FFMPEG uses the GPL, if I post the link youtube will make it disappear since links are not allowed. But FFMPEG is open source and the GPL requires added code be shared and open.
@StoryboardCreativity3 жыл бұрын
Does it mean that they have to publish only changes to ffmpeg? Or whole their VideoSuite source code?
@joesalyers3 жыл бұрын
@@StoryboardCreativity Any code that involves the use of FFMPEG to encode or decode ZRAW. This only applies to FFMPEG and not their VideoSuite itself. But if Z-Cam are using parts of any Opensource code in the VideoSuite you could look through those to find out what is going on under the hood. All software that uses Open source GPL code must inform the end user of that code. Even Apple uses GPL code and you can usually find out what code is being used by looking through the help tab or just doing a quick google search for ZCam or Zraw and open source licenses.

4 minutes in. Very well executed though it seems your forgetting that all internal RAW video codecs can't be full RAW due to RED stupids patent. Restricting innovation, competition and monopolizing the market, hence Prores Raw. Though this isn't real Raw either and as such the reason why Apple had a lengthy court battle trying to throw out Reds patent though somehow they won.

If you watched 4 minutes only, you did not see, that in 0.93 ZRAW is a real internal RAW
