I managed to lock onto a cheap 6p/kw charge rate from midnight to 5am. I have done 5000 miles now at 3.1miles per kw. This means the cost is £98. My diesel Mercedes at 45mpg at approx £7.50/gallon would have cost £833 ! Plus the Mercedes would have cost 6 months road tax at £13.20/month = £79.20 giving a total of £912 vs the EV6 at £98. Saving me £814 in 6 months and 5k miles 👍✊️

GT Line S dual motor on order in Pearl White. Can't wait. I was blown away with the car in general when I had my test drive and placed my order a few days later. To me anyway, it looks so much nicer in the flesh over how it looks in photos or videos. I wasn't sure about the rear end of the car in photos when I first saw it, but actually when i saw it in person, it's great. Performance is very strong as with all electric cars but this has nicely tuned acceleration and the handling is very composed for such a big car. Space in the rear is great too (I have two young children). What's not to like? If you are in the market for an electric car, put aside your preconception of the brand KIA and take a test drive, you too may be quite surprised as I was at how good this car is.

What the EV6 may lack in interior opulence against the much dearer Germans, it makes up for in spades in the quality of assembly leading to less warrranty claims by buyers. Also, Kia does not have the "up yours" after sales customer relationship that the likes of VAG and Mercedes have! Interior style wise, it is all over all competitors but especially the Mach-E where the large screen looks an afterthought stuck on with superglue. Exterior style wise, it is infinitely better than a Tesla, especially from the from where Tesla's look like the engineers didin't know how to style an EV that does not need a radiator grille!
@alanthorpe11322 жыл бұрын
Why does everybody say "you never get the claimed range in real life"? It depends on your driving style, what speed you drive at, and, most importantly, whether it's Summer or Winter and which way the wind's blowing!. My e-Niro claims 282. I've got over 300 in good weather, but only about 250 in Winter.

1:08 that leg room is a downside in my book. Especially if seats don't slide. It means that it eats up a boot space for no good reason - or just makes a car longer so that you could have an empty space in front of your knees. Yes, you can extend your legs a little, but how often do you need that in an electric car (and you can also do that if the front seat is raised up a bit).

What’s interesting is no one mentions the disproportionately high number of very unhappy owners who have endured winter with no functioning heater blamed first on software issues and then on inverter issues…with a fix being held up by lack of spares supply. Neither does it mention the various other recalls, the constantly shifting delivery dates and the number of unhappy owners rejecting their cars or cancelling orders. I was going to order but looked elsewhere. I’ve never seen so many unhappy owners although the fan boys seem to brush the heating issue and recalls to one side.
@martinj70832 жыл бұрын
Where's the evidence base for this assertion of a disproportionately high number of very unhappy owners? Looking at forums where people share issues and problems isn't really a statistically sound way of assessing their incidence. Yes, some early EV6s (including mine) had infuriating heating issues, now resolved in my case. But then, a glance at other EV forums will show that Taycans and e-Tron GTs have had heating problems, Polestar 2s and ID3s have had software problems, and, incredibly, even Model 3s have been known to have the occasional fault. Set against this is the superb design and build quality of the EV6, its outstanding ride/handling balance, and advanced 800V architecture. I'm no fan boy - that's a Tesla thing - but I fully understand why What Car made this beautiful-looking car their COTY - and I'm sorry you'll be missing out.
@wayneski9552 жыл бұрын
There’s an abundance of evidence out there even accounting for the polarised views and comments that forums attract. My local dealer had 2 demo vehicles - 1 couldn’t be used because the heating doesn’t work (and that was this week). It’s natural that some owners want to defend their purchase but just look at the forums - they’re awash with unhappy owners.

Effective range? Well let's assume you never want to risk getting below 10%. So that essentially means you have a range of 328 - 33 miles or 295 miles. However, if you're on a cross country and need to recharge, you'll likely want to charge to only the 80% mark as charging slows down after that point. So that means after your supercharger experience you'll be looking at 262 miles max. So your useful range, after your first recharge, drops to 229 miles (262 - 33). Now, you may think that's adequate and for many people I'm sure it is. But for me that isn't anywhere near sufficient as I live in Phoenix, Arizona. For a weekend trip to Las Vegas, or the Grand Canyon or Telluride... well in an EV that's going to be an extremely painful journey. And of course all of this assumes you get the published range (which is extremely unlikely). Oh, and I'm not sure if Kia is offering free electricity in the USA but if not, the average cost of supercharger outlets here in Arizona is around 43c to 53c per kwHr. What does that mean in real world terms? Well, in Arizona, if you have to pay to use a supercharger, you will be paying approximately twice the cost of regular gas (petrol) at the pump for the same distance. Or, put another way, if you have to use a pay supercharger you are going to be super ripped-off in terms of cost-per-mile. Of course all of this assumes you can find a supercharger that is close to your destination. In my case the nearest supercharger to my second home outside of Flagstaff, Arizona? Nearly 45 miles. Hardly convenient. If you live in town and can afford a second vehicle, this Kia makes perfect sense. But if you can't afford a second vehicle? Well that's why many of us prefer PHEV vehicles. So I'll stick with my Rav4 Prime... for now.
@DerekDavis2132 жыл бұрын
If you have the air conditioning on, in Arizona, and driving uphill? The range number will take a nosedive. And if you run out of battery, your car needs to be towed. Not just a simple gas can, brought to you by a friend.

@@amperformance7998 yeah I heard that too. Sounds like Kia just barely missed the mark on that. Shame. But hopefully they are plug & play. Or they allow dealers to software update them into compatibility for the first year models that were sold already, like mine. I imagine next year they're putting those in. I don't see why they wouldn't. Would make production even more streamline since they wouldn't need to nerf the car just for our market.

Good review. But had to stop and laugh when I came across your review and your channel name of What Car. I'm in the USA and have been calling around the Kia dealers. They all said it will be impossible to get the EV6. And if you do get someone who wants to talk price, I am getting a fishing quote of $20K over MSRP. Contacted Kia corporate and was told all dealers are independently owned and gets to set their own price. I had also asked whether I can order one from the factory. Nope, they don't do that. I own a Tesla but didn't want to buy a 2nd one due to Tesla lack of post sales repair/support. I can order a VW, Ford and a few others online. I won't be buying a Kia.

Just wondering which car does better than EV6 (except M3 or Y arguably) in extreme winter? And why don’t you consider selling this one then? I bet it’s pretty new. It seems you are not happy with EV6 charging speed, as the demand is going up you can sell it easily!

If a long winter blackout occurs in a land of electric cars most of the population will perish in the freezing cold. The gas powered car that would provide cabin heat for many days will not be there. The electric car could only supply heat for a short time and would quickly discharge its battery making a trip to a shelter impossible.
@JoopHbR2 жыл бұрын
In the winter, because of the cold battery, expect a speed between 50 to 100 kW/hr
@genericuser23392 жыл бұрын
Yes quite right and this is an ev industry wide problem in so much as the manufactures claim this and that with the charging speed and it’s complete bullshit because factors such as battery temp have such a huge impact to charging speed. It’s not specific to Kia it’s the same for all and I suspect will be the next “emissions scandal” (VW) type of thing to hit the news some way off in the future. This is why we rely on third parties to do real world tests not the manufacturers’ bullshit claims. However, as a baseline it has its uses I guess but I don’t want to be told that my car can charge so fast whereas I wonder if I will ever, EVER see that kind of speed in real life on a charger than can provide that power of course. As long as people make purchases with their expectations set correctly then it’s all good :).
@rogerstarkey53902 жыл бұрын
"In VARIOUS times , because if battery management". There's a "lower temperature" reading and an "upper temperature" reading. Indications are it won't ramp untill the lower is above 21° and then it's a "medium" ramp. At that point the upper reading is often at 30+°. Then when that upper reading hit 40-45° THAT initiates an "overheat" throttling. Result, a narrow charge window. There's also something odd with the heater/ pack inlet temps. Before you say anything, I've seen this in several reports, different testers, different countries, different temperatures, with some using diagnostic apps to display data. Oh There's also the "leaving the charger with a hot battery, flooring the throttle onto a fast road (motorway?) Issue"..... Which *can* initiate a "power restriction" That would be "focussing" if the truck you jumped in front of from the on ramp is still at full speed, but you're not?

The EV6 is a nice looking car but here is NZ it is so overpriced at $77,990 for the base model which doesn't have very many features at all not even front park sensors which is ridiculous. I can buy the Tesla Model 3 for $74,900 and it has so many more features with driver profiles which remember each drivers settings, heated steering wheel as well as heated seats, electric boot, Sentry mode to name just a few and more importantly it gets regular over the air updates that keep your car up to date and always feeling like a new car with getting new features. Sorry Kia but you are asking way too much for your EV6 and to get the model with comparable features to the Tesla I would have to spend over $111,000!
