The 'Ready Player One' gaff can be explained away as people previously did try driving backwards, and crashed, because the backwards trick requires you to first go to the archives and watch the video where the Oasis creator mentions time running backwards (basically setting up a flag that marks the solution as now being possible). Makes sense from a narrative perspective as the whole point is to make sure whoever actually works out how to beat the race is someone who's studied the creator inside and out and knows what they really wanted to achieve with the Oasis. It even gets a call back later in the movie where it looks like the solution to getting the final key is to beat the Atari 2600 game 'Adventure', but the actual solution is to do as the game's creator wanted people to do and find the easter egg where their name and credentials are displayed.

@@captainspaulding5963 As said the race are not in the book and yes we did try to break the games when the book was written. We even did it back in the eighties where all the nostalgica in the Oasis comes from. The whole race fiasco must be written by someone who has never played a video game in his life. Edit: a smaller mistake but another proof that the writer has never played a video game. The whole team of ioi schoolars can not figure out what to do with an 2600 (and the adventure game) in an EASTER EGG hunt.

There's a simple answer to the "Double Jeopardy" mistake: The former lawyer who was in prison with Ashley Judd...lied. She lied because she wanted to motivate Judd and give her an objective to strive for. Or maybe she thought it would be fun to send Judd out into the world to try and terminate her scoundrel of a husband. Later on in the movie, when Judd confronts Peter Greenwood after being caught by Tommy Lee Jones--and Jones assures Greenwood that she's correct about the Double Jeopardy law--this is because Jones also didn't tell Judd about the law's true nature either, in order to make the threat against Greenwood seem credible. That last part does seem like a much greater stretch. Perhaps it would have worked if the writer had included a conversation whereby we learn that Jones informed Judd about the truth of the law BEFORE confronting Greenwood, and the two worked together to intimidate Greenwood into revealing the location of Judd's son, which is what she wanted most.

With Ready Player One I could see it not being found out because there was a wall there. Everything was pointing at people following the track not speeding backwards. I can see someone turning their car around and trying to drive that way but that might not have triggered the anything. I do know that gamers tend to do a lot of stuff to find things but I also know that some secrets took a really long time( some more than 30 years) to find even with the most popular games. So its more plausible then first thought.

@ The Supreme Court has ruled that a second execution attempt following a failed first attempt is not in violation of the Eighth Amendment (Louisiana ex rel. Francis v. Resweber, 1947). If the state chooses not to reattempt, that is their decision to make. They CAN go through with a second attempt, but they are under no obligation.

First time I ever hear about someone having a problem with the backward driving in RPO so I don't think it 'tanked' the movie, just seem like a case of you trying to look more clever than everybody else. It can easily be explained by the fact that when you die in the game you lose everything and nobody want to lose their gear for nothing like that. You also have to drive backward at full speed towards a wall and it's pretty easy to understand why people wouldn't think to do that in the first place. It's easy to picture some player attempting to go backward at the beginning of the race and explore slowly to not crash into the wall and conclude that there was nothing there

Calling bull on the Ready Player One entry. Anyone whose played a high stakes competitive game wouldnt feel inclined to just try and make risky moves like that unless they felt it was 100% the correct choice. You have to remember there is no practice mode, and no training mode. You can only enter the competition and play for that run, and if you get eliminated then so be it. Thats the end of that run. And this is not just a rinky dink "oh, I won". This is, "if I beat this, I get 1 step closer to owner the company and this very virtual world". When the stakes are that high, and theres no way to practice or test things out, people are less likely to take risks, especially if there was never an indication that that was an option in the first place. You are in the moment, and from the moment go, you are locked in and trying to win at all costs. Not experiment to see if I do this thing, then maybe Ill get this outcome. Even with something like Fall Guys, Ive never seen anyone just jump off a random platform to see if maybe a secret warp tunnel will appear out of nowhere, because theres never been an indication that such a thing would exist. So why would someone enter a tournament where ownership of an entire company and millions of dollars is on the line, and suddenly risk driving backwards on the off chance that thats the goal.
@RevRaptor898
@RevRaptor898 2 ай бұрын
Totally agree and would like to add my two cents in. I think it also reflects on the nature of these peoples lives, they spend like 90% of their waking hours in the virtual world and many desperately try to win games just to get enough cash to eat. It's less like play and more like work, everyone is so used to the grind that nobody even tries creative solutions anymore.

Also, if Libby's husband turned out to be alive, the initial conviction would be overturned. So even by the movie's misunderstanding of the law, it wouldn't be a second conviction if she was convicted for his actual murder. On the plus side, when she's convicted of the second, actual murder, she'll already have time served for the first wrongful conviction.

Bruh after googling Double Jeopardy, and if the movie follows it/got it wrong, the internet confirms you are right, but also it is highly variable per state. The biggest glaring error is that the murder she was convicted of happened in one state and the murder she actually commited was in a different state. That right there wouldn't work. But, it really does say that if it were to happen in the same state, you really could argue that she couldn't be convicted of the murder again in that same state. BUT, even then, there's another movie where instead of going to double jeopardy route they just go from murder to attempted murder and get the same sentence. SO, yes, the movie got it wrong but in reality, due to the justice system and its wording, you really could argue that the movie COULD be accurate under certain circumstances.

The real mistake in Ready Player One, the movie version, was that the quest was impossible, and the plot had to cheat like crazy to make it work. The entire challenge was dependent on having an unbelievable knowledge, to a minutiae degree, over someone else's nerdy life, and then extrapolating unbelievable connections from such knowledge. It was like trying to pick what number a guy was thinking from 1 to a 100, when he was dead. Some movies stink because they are too simple, but this movie it was the opposite, it was unbelievable anyone could win.

Ready Player One - In its defense, there was nothing behind the start other than a dead end. While gamers ARE inquisitive, it didn't look like there was anywhere that you could go if you drove backwards, other than smashing into a wall. It is my lifelong ambition to get SOMEONE to acknowledge the goof in The Terminator. After the truck blows up near the end of the film, a burning figure, presumably the terminator, staggers out of the truck and collapses on an empty patch of ground. As Sarah and Kyle embrace, the endoskeleton rises up from under some debris. How did it go from collapsing on bare ground, to being covered with debris? Not to mention that the closeups of the burning skull didn't look at all like a machine.

Originally it was written that Average Joe's lost. But, corporate pressure forced the change. Perhaps, this was how they were to have lost. 🤔

I mean they still did alot of shit the summer before also when the guy was originally trying to kill them, that makes the "still" and "last summer" make sense.

Hmmm. This has severe Pitch Meeting synopsis vibes.....almost like youve recently watched a supercut of Ryan's work

I Know What You Did Last Summer came out on October 17th, 1997, it's sequel came out on November 13th, 1998. Easy fact check. They did it right. Besides, it wouldn't matter when the sequel came out. Look at the John Wick franchise as an example if you want to get technical to your claim. Some are years apart, but pick up immediately where the other left off.

I still know what you did THAT summer would have been a better title. Or they could have just not made a sequel at all lmao

So your title is "Basic Mistakes That RUIN Movies" and in your second entry you state, that the mistake doesn't matter? It would be nice take care, that if you have such a clickbaity title to at least have the entries deliver.

None of these mistakes "ruined" their movies. (Except maybe Skyfall)

Are people dumb 😂 "I still know what you did last summer" makes total sense. I know was one year after they ran the fisherman over and I still know was one year after their friends were murdered and they thought they killed the fisherman. How do people not understand that.

Sometimes I wonder why are you in WC Gaming... So what it took someone 5 years to try to go backwards? Dont you remember how many secrets go undiscovered for years in games? Sometimes its only discovered because the devs hint something, like the secret room in Arkham Asylum. Honestly dude, stop making lists... You dont have the knack for it...
