To this day I still don't understand why people think hellblade was disappointing when it is essentially hellblade 1 on steroids. What were you expecting? A hack and slash God of War type of game? Picking flowers and artifacts every second? Pressing square all the time because you can't be 1 minute without instant gratification?? If you played hellblade 1 you would've known what to expect as they promised most of the same, now if you were expecting some endless semi-open world with a 1000 secondary missions then that's on you because hellblade has never been that

Same - the game played EXACTLY as expected and better... the fact that they used HB2 as the thumbnail instead of concord and the fact that concord wasn't #1 on this list after only lasting 10 days with almost a HALF BILLION DOLLAR LOSS is the reason I think whatculture lacks any objective credibility

I was disappointed by the story and combat. 1 had very basic combat, but having to deal with multiple enemies kept things spicy. 2's combat was perhaps more complex in terms of combos and countering enemy types, but limiting it to "one at a time" made it boring and generally immersion breaking (having Senua getting constantly knocked over to introduce the next enemy was not a great way to go about it). As for story, 1 was a deeply personal story, almost entirely centered on Senua's traumas and struggles. In 2, she has to share the story beats with villains and companions. In addition to allowing for less personal exploration and development, it was jarring; the character arcs matter very little for the side characters, given that we can't know what they actually experienced and what was just in Senua's head. I didn't go into the game expecting it to be the next big top tier action game, or expecting it to be miles better than the first game, but I wasn't expecting it to be so "not as good" as it was.

Possibly the expectations for the game were so high that it was disappointing even as it was considered one of the 20 best. I myself enjoyed the game but found it didn’t quite live up to the hype, still one of my top 10 games of the year based on having gotten fewer than 10 games that came out this year.

I'm loving that game so far. It's such a great murder mystery. I'm not saddened by the exclusion of Chloe because the way it's handled is pretty realistic to how things would happen in real life. Not all relationships last nor do they have to it's normal for people who are madly in love to eventually grow apart. It also makes sense for Max to be different now because it's been literally 10 years since the first game and people do this thing called growing and changing over time. Anyone that was expecting a 10-year difference to be a carbon copy is a fool

As a fan of Senua's Sacrifice, I think it's because it was disappointing. I don't think it was a BAD game, I think it was an okay-good game. Unfortunately, what it wasn't, IMO, was a GREAT game in any way. The graphics were wonderful, yes, but the gameplay was weaker than Sacrifice and so was the storyline. It wasn't 7-years-in-development great. It wasn't Senua's-Sacrifice-Sequel great. It certainly wasn't $50 great. I got it free and enjoyed my time with it, but I can't say it lived up to the original at all. And that's the sad thing, the original was so good in its story telling and characters etc that it would have been virtually impossible for the sequel to do it justice. That's what I was worried about when they announced a sequel and I think I was right. As always, your mileage may vary.

Star Wars Outlaws failed because it came after the Fallen Order games. I mean, after being able to fight with a lightsaber and duel bosses no less than Darth freakin' Vader, why would you want to go to a stealth based Star Wars game with half the fun in combat?

I feel the new FPS games like xdefiant should have always a story first. Disappointing games tend to be ones that had some semblance of "looking forward to playing that one" in them. Dustborn didn't particularly have that, and it was more "extremely polarizing" by design, which led to people not expecting much from it. True, you could say that about Concord as well, but the cataclysmic financial hole it created earned it a spot on the list.

Suicide Squad has through updates become pretty good now. I just bought it for $5. There are far, far worse games I've played. The Avengers was worse for instance. Anthem. Call of Duty, especially when you don't mute the other players...

It's like they didn't expect characters to change and grow in 10 years or a relationship that was built on trauma bonding to eventually fall apart.
