Kill the Justice League killed itself. Saint Row 3 is a good game and it looks better than the second game. I liked using super powers in the fourth game. I wish the next game took place on an alien planet in one of the alternate endings instead of the retcon one.

It was one of those things, where it was beginning of the end, but game was still liked, because it was just more of SR craziness, even if plot was more B rated. It could have been DLC title to 3. But it really kind of took it too far in terms of sequels. Then Gat Out of Hell came that basically tried to retcon things, that failed and then they tried rebooting it, but that also failed and that killed it.

I completely disagree on Death of the Outsider. They only expanded the mystery and questions imo. They exposed the Outsider for a cursed human, sure, but that only means the truth is far bigger than even him. That means something else effectively rules the void. Something far scarier and more significant than he could ever be, even as scary and significant as he is given he plays with the future like a science experiment.
@TheWeaponshold18 сағат бұрын
Agreed. Such a huge jumping off point. Plus the outsider was inordinately involved in Dunwall and Serkonos. There are tons of places that have been mentioned that could be gone to that perhaps have a different entity of the void. Especially knowing humans can wind up as demigods depending on circumstance. However Redfall already closed one office. I hope they come back swinging with a new Dishonored game. Maybe leaving Corvo and Emily behind though. But as for DotO ruining Dishonored I really do not see it. Loved the game and loved the story.

Didn't Assassin's Creed also kill their story? From what I remember it was intended to be a trilogy, but as they found they had a money printer on their hands they threw that out of the window together with the "real world"/"the Ancients" (or whatever they were called) story line.
@chrisrudolf983921 сағат бұрын
I wouldn't say they killed that storyline, because it was basically stillborn. Most fans hated the real life bits and considered them an unnecessary and distracting addition to the story of the various past time protagonists. Granted, that whole animus trope was a neat gimmick to give an in-story justification for video game mechanics like respawning and invisible walls and the present time story was a vehicle to tie various sequels together that were set in totally different time periods with an entirely different cast of characters, but the present time story line was never good. Also, they didn't really kill it, they just reduced it to a bare minimum, but they still use it IIRC.

At no point was it supposed to be trilogy. There is interview even on youtube with Nolan North, who talked to the lead writer, who admitted, that they don't really have an ending, but the plan basically was, that Desmond would keep learning the skills of asssassins and eventually he would somehow be able to travel in time, basically making him the "main assassin" for each installment. Of course, that is a history now.
@thetruesoraКүн бұрын
kingdom hearts 2 had been made with the intention there would be other games following it, the ending had Sora get a letter from mickey (that the contents of it were revealed in a later game). also 3 isn't "the third game", 2 is. this sounds like it was wrote by someone who chooses to ignore or at least disregard anything that isn't 1,2 or 3 as "filler" or "spinoffs"

I kinda got the impression that Saints Row 4 was demanded by higher ups because SR3 did so well, and this was the way for writers to insure they couldn't make a Saints Row 5, they just razed EVERYTHING to the ground, flipped the bird at the higher ups, and walked away. If they wanted another Saint's Row, let 'em start from scratch.... in a rather Saints like move, if I'm being honest. Of course that could just be me reading way too much subtext into things as an older gamer who remembers when Saint's Row 1 was just a dumbed down GTA3 knockoff.

I still think they could have done a Saints Row 5 Saints in time with the time machine at the end of 4. Have it set in one city across three eras and build a legacy traveling back and forth in order to get enough resources to save the planet making it only look like it was destroyed. Run into some ancestors of some of the cast that was killed, engage in some historical antic, have changes in the past alter the city in the future. There's a way of doing it that could have been cool. Shame about the reboot. I really wanted to like it.
@chrisrudolf983920 сағат бұрын
I'd add Senua's Saga to the list. The strongest point of the story of the previous game Senua's sacrifice was the immersive depiction of a protagonist suffering from schizophrenia. It is a puzzeling journey during which Senua constantly struggles with hallucinations. It ends on a lucid moment of hers and a full revelation of what happened to her guy, but it very fittingly leaves it open to individual interpretation how much of her journey into the underworld really happened and how much of it was just her internal struggle with her insanity. The sequel tries to continue the story in a similar manner, but it doesn't work because there are often other characters present with her who see and react to the supernatural stuff, which establishes that pretty much all of the supernatural elements are real (even if they try to retcon part of that in the weak ending). According to the shaman guy, her being able to "see the hidden things" and thus communicate with the small folk even basically makes her the chosen one to solve the island's problems. Also the voices in her head are more supportive than in the first game and basically just serve as a vehicle to annoy the gamer with constant unwanted hints how to solve the puzzles. Those aspects combined make her mental disability appear to be more of a superpower than a challenge to struggle with. The supernatural elements being obviously real in the sequel even makes you question whether Senua actually suffers from a psychosis at all, or whether she is a perfectly sane medium with slightly judgemental guiding spirits talking to her.

Oh no, they didn't let Kiryu retire, they gave him a tragic death instead. Well, an implied impending doom, really. But still. I'm surprised there's no Mass Effect Andromeda. To be fair, I liked it, even better than the first ME, but they really did end the story in ME3, even if it wasn't quite the ending that everyone wanted. Andromeda had its work cut out for it lol

I liked Andromeda too. Honestly, I think they should have doubled down and continued the story of Andromeda, the set ups for the future were good and the premise was also good. Saints Row 3 was the start of the downfall of the franchise. 1 & 2 worked so well because of the taking over territories, so you felt like you were building something. It also worked by not taking it self too seriously. GTA takes it self too seriously and the games usually have a massive flaw. Eating and exercise was annoying in San Andreas. Constantly annoying friends hurt GTA 4. Saints Row 3 took its two great characteristics and threw them away. It went from not taking it self too seriously to not taking it self seriously at all. GTA was the pendulum on the right, Saints Row 1 & 2 was the pendulum in the center, and Saints Row 3 was the pendulum breaking off and flying into the wall on the left.

Thats what kills me the most. We didn't need the harbinger or endless in Infinite, we needed Atriox and maybe a bit of Cortana not just killing her offscreen cause Halo 5 was so reviled. Halo 5 didn't need revived and evil Cortana, it maybe needed Didact again instead of fake killing him in 4 to be killed for real in a comic the day after the end of Halo 4 itself. They even had concept art of Didact for H5.

I never got to play SR1 since I didn’t have an Xbox growing up. SR2 was the best title in the series hands down from a storytellingperspective. SR3 was where it started to fumble but it was still fun if you can ignore the few glaring mistakes. SR4 was a mistake but it had some redeeming features. SR5 is like seeing someone spit in their palm and slap you, it can only be perceived as blatant disrespect.

Yeah wrong, Halo 3 ruined the trilogy and what Halo 2 set up with the lazy trash story telling and filler deaths.

Omg yes the 1st two Saints Row games were perfect like I wish they would remake both of them!!! And then continue the franchise after two!

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown completely ruins the message of Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. Apparently Bandai Namco were on a time crunch and had to get the plot out as fast as possible. In doing so it ruins one of their best games. So much for a “Sky no longer in need of heroes.”

To be fair, Kingdom Hearts story was already ruined beyond repair before we even got to the middle of Kingdom Hearts 2.

The issue with Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't the overcomplicated story. All of the games (especially 2) are overly complicated. The issue is that the story is incredibly stupid. You spend 90% of the game doing absolutely nothing, for no reason, until the plot finally decides to kick in at the last hour. And even when it does shift into gear, it's so stupid and cringeworthy. Plus, it has the most boring gameplay of the series. By far

FF7. I don't mind what went down with Advent Children & Crisis Core but Dirge, Remake and Rebirth were a step too far into the realm of WTF. Also kinda Star Ocean Till The End of Time. Kinda killed the series. They could never make a sequel that took place after that story's revelation. I love the game but the story was aggressively a step in the wrong direction.
