The Collector is actually more bitter sweet. The reason why the main character was captured was because he went back and saved the young daughter of the family. What's more as The Collector 2 is a direct sequel that continues the plot and has the same main character, the ending of the first movie is not the end of his story. Both movies together are a good watch.

The ending of Smile ruined the entire movie for me. The entire message that the film repeatedly conveyed is that you can't run from your trauma, you must confront it and learn to accept it. Well Rose does exactly that in the conclusion with both the entity and her "mother", only for absolutely none of it to matter and the entity kills her anyway. The fact that the filmmakers completely undermined their own movie's message at the end and went for the cheapest, most generic and predictable outcome imaginable annoyed me to no end.

I think that if David actually created the original xenomorphs in Alien: Covenant (which is questionable given the differences in appearance of the eggs, the infant form, and the fully grown xenomorph and the fact that the xenomorph’s likeness is seen in the carvings in Prometheus), then Ridley Scott retconned a giant plot hole into the series (aside from the space jockey guys being about a quarter the size of the guy in Alien and looking like humans despite wearing space suits with a trunk). They said the derelict in Alien had been there for something like 1,000 years, and Alien: Covenant takes place not long before the first movie.
@UnwrittenSpade11 ай бұрын
Ridley made some masterpieces for sure but man oh man he should have either left alien and it’s mythos alone or allowed someone else like Neill Blomkamp to make his vision. There was absolutely no need to go back and show anything about the jockey because as an audience it’s almost guaranteed that nothing they come up with will match whatever our imaginations have interpreted or made up about that thing. It should have been just a forever mystery in my opinion anyway. Your so right about all the ridiculous plot holes and retcons messing up much of the story.

@@UnwrittenSpade I feel like I’m a pretty harsh critic of Prometheus and Alien:Covenant for their total irreverence for not only Ridley Scott’s own original film but also for the wider universe that has taken a life that I feel goes beyond it’s creator. That having been said, I’m able to kinda separate it and enjoy them as movies in their own right. Frankly, the EU canon is a bit of an inconsistent free for all with various inconsistent versions and retcons, although they typically don’t significantly retcon the content of the first two films, which I think is the heresy Scott committed.

I don’t get why people think David created the xenomorphs. I’ve always felt it was clear that the ones he made are a parallel strain, as much the result of the properties of the black goo as his experiments. They’re very similar to the ones we know from Alien etc, but there are notable differences. I think the base Xenomorph template is coded into the black goo and life that’s exposed to it will reach that general state eventually, one way or another.
