My first gig as a 13yr old, me, me mate and his sister, all of us 14 or under, dropped off outside G-Mex & left to enjoy it on our own till pick up after the gig....AND how lucky were we to attend this for a first gig! I’d imagine a lot of people might be ashamed of who they saw first, or at least struggle to listen back to it 30yrs on, but seriously, this still sounds as shit hot & amazing now I’m 40 as it did when I was 12 or 13 ....proper band ✊🏻

A great Manchester band with so many fantastic, melodic, powerful, energetic songs musically & lyrically. Their own sound & style with folk, rock, indie, pop, alternative electronic music. definitely improved when they went from a 4pc to 7pc band late 80s early 90s creating a bigger overall sound, brilliant instrumentation & musicianship, a great live band. By far at their best when Larry (Lawrence) Gott was Lead guitarist, he played the songs so freely and effortlessly and with the perfect combination of feeling and power on guitar solos, never over doing it with over the top wailing overdriven, distortion/ fuzz solos, always just enough effect, less is more and in music especially, just a little drive or effect on guitars can work better being more dynamic and overall feel, unlike some guitarist who think you have to have OD, Distortion/ Fuzz fx maxed. I especially love the last song Stutter, feeling, emotion, Expression!! Takes you back to 1982

They were from Leeds not Manchester, a common misconception.
@thedeadxtras9927
@thedeadxtras9927 Жыл бұрын
@@simonwhitehead5757 yes Tim Booth was born in Bradford, original members Larry Gott was from Manchester, Jim Glennie was born in Moss side Manchester and Gavan Whelan of Irish descent but grew up in Manchester, The original James four piece line up were formed in Whaley Range Manchester and rehearsed in Manchester rehearsal studios from the beginning, I worked as part of there sound crew as technician and guitar technician for many years. Sure Tim was born in Yorkshire but they have always considered themselves as a Manchester band as primarily three quarters of the original lineup were from Manchester and formed in Manchester. It doesn’t really matter anyway if they all were from Yorkshire, Manchester, Outer Mongolia or Timbuktu, they are are great Northern band that have written some classic songs over the last 40yrs and still doing it now and have stood the test of time in the music industry entertaining the world. Also it’s funny how when they played the James Come Home Gig at G-MEX Manchester on the 8th December 1990, self titled by themselves as their homecoming gig, make of that what you please 🙏🏽 Yes Tim Booth was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, that you are correct 👍🏻
