As someone who got into batman/DC as an adult but was suffering from a lot of anxiety at that time, I started with watching these child-friendly adaptations - the batman, Lego batman, justice League action - before binging the animated series. and although I can't help but adore Kevin as batman, the batman has a special place in my heart. I just love the humanity that Bruce gets to have, the cheesy public appearances, the acts of charity he does simply because he feels sympathy - see the first (?) episode where Langstrom lies about wanting to find a cure for his deaf granddaughter, and Bruce showing up to their place with a gift of hearing aids and using ASL. Just. Sigh. I love him.

When Justice League reruns started to air a few years later I remember thinking, "That's not Batman, who is this guy?" Huge Bat-Freak myself literally put out a love letter type video about Batman and what to expect for Matt Reeves movie. The animated series is definitely still top dog out of all of the different animated shows. But The Batman (2004) and Beware The Batman were highly underrated in their own right. The reason why The Batman (2004) is so great at least imo, really boils down to how this series definitely continues what the animated series started with very dark and sad themes.

Also a very astute point about Warner Bros. executives being clueless about their own properties. Marvel seems to have as much control over their projects as they should. I wish Warner would stop getting in their own way and let creators create.

True but , marvel as a company doesn’t let the directors create what they want for the movie , but rather use them as a puppets for already written script and direction they wanna take movie in , that’s why at least I heard some directors didn’t like that while working with marvel. So indeed marvel takes control over everything but when you watch a movie for example , it feels soulless. (Don’t make me start on the modern cartoons of marvel)

Overall I do like the show especially the art work and character designs. The first season was definitely great but after a while it became kinda stagnant to me. The story lines and the atmosphere of the show were so spot on, almost like Courage The Cowardly Dog or Invader Zim if that makes sense, but once Batgirl and later Robin came along that all went away. The vibes became very funky like and this show's version of the Justice League was very inferior to the one that had just been set up with the DCAU. Not that the later seasons were bad but for me dropped from like a 9 to a 7 overall
@jockeyfield19542 жыл бұрын
personally, what made it stagnant was the introduction of the justice league. batgirl and robin only added to the show imo, but the justice sorta took away. although the superman episodes were good, anything else i didn't exactly pay any mind to. i guess it was because i sorta just waiting for something to happen. there's the justice league, and they're just sorta there. batgirl and robin were seen on batman's side a lot more, and other characters of the batman mythos were being introduced, but it all sorta led nowhere. the show was good, i still love it to death, but overall, i just stopped gaining from it as season 5 went on longer
@stardust-tt6mk2 жыл бұрын
Tbf, they changed the tone a bit when his sidekicks came in. S2 "sidekick-mentor" arc is about Bats not wanting Batgirl in the team, there's this.. tension. When Dick came in there are two things I like: how Batman changed when looking for Zuko, he was out there taking it personal and actively causing harm to the people he crossed paths. Once that was resolved, he shifted to a Bruce who is trying to teach AND keep his kids alive, which all builds into the two-part episodes of the invasion by the joining, where Batman breaks and confess that it's not like he doesn't want them/need them, but it's the fear of losing them which makes sense! But the JL season wasn't it for me, except for the superman episodes sjsndn maybe it's because the whole tone and style of the series suited better Batman, Batgirl and Robin rather than the JL.
@Negameleon2 жыл бұрын
This show just had a lot of foresight and originality: The laughing Bat episode is the building blacks for "The Batman Who Laughs" it's scary how the concept is so 1:1, down to a Bruce Wayne poisoned by Joker toxin almost turning Joker. A robot robs the Gotham Central Bank, wiping it clean, causes havock in a similar way to Bane in Dark Knight Rises, also manages to figure out Batman's identity. Bayou accent Killer Croc who actually looks like a crocodile voiced by Ron Perlman is by far THE BEST Killer Croc ever. The concept of Harley Quinn already having a few screws loose (instead of being a highly intelligent Psychiatrist that happens to fall for Joker through contrivance) is so good avant garde in my opinion, love this version of Harleen. The whole Ethan Bennet Clay face arc is OUTSTANDING, every episode of that transformation is gold, Bruce having a personal connection with a would be villain is something that needs to happen more outside of that villain being Jason Todd/Red Hood. Batgirl sharing a big part of the spotlight for almost 2 full seasons is awesome, she's a great part of the show and way better than the Timmverse Barbara. Villains (with the exception of Bane for some reason) evolve and get second chances which develops them further. Firefly, Mr. Freeze, Scarface, Penguin are all highlights. Riddler is awesome here as well, a very different take from the usual narcissist we get. The relationship between Bruce and Alfred is probably the most developed I've seen it outside of comics and even in comics there's rarely this much Alfred input. I'm almost done with the show, and from beginning to end the series is a blast, I'd say very few episodes ever really feel "kiddy" or looking to push toys on the viewer.

As good as this show was yeah no doubt some character designs were questionable. (Joker, Riddler, Bane) But some other characters had great designs some of my favorites I've seen (Man-Bat, Firefly, Mr. Freeze) Mr. Freeze's is probably my favorite one in the show with Firefly second. Only thing I didn't like about Mr. Freeze was his motivation, rather than having a noble cause to save his dying wife it was greed like stealing jewelry. Also Killer Croc had a good design too and he actually had intelligence rather than just being a brute like in other interpretations

Short answer: supply and demand is what happened. Personally I loved "The batman." before Robin and Batgirl came along because it felt like Bruce was a really good vigilantee for needing as few people as possible for help. I also adore the introduction of new characters like in batman Vs Dracula, and the one-off villains in the series. Originality is golden. But alas, most crazy DC fans are so addicted to people making movies that have stories which are basically the same as what happen in the comics with a few minor differences, that when stories that are new come along, they petulantly go "Oh this is trash!" Spitefully discouraging people from watching it in the hopes that they will instead get what they want. DC fans when they were children read the comics and loved them, but as time passes and real life bothers them, their feelings of happiness for what they have loved fades, and so they secretly crave reminders of their happier time and want movies and TV shows to help them live in the past, not new stuff to help them move on, so they scream "This is trash!" when something new is introduced, and they say "This is epic!" When A movie or TV show that is basically the same as the comics with just enough differences to keep it spicy, comes along. DC is, for many people, a drug and they are raging addicts. Want proof? Look at Jason Todd: he was killed off because the fans voted for him to be killed off because they didn't like him, because he was not Dick. But the fans loved nightwing, because he was more of what they already loved. Look at Son of Batman, it's a movie that is almost precisely the same as the comics it based on, but people loved it despite its pathetic lack of originality. Look at the Joker in suicide squad 2016: he actually loved Harley Quinn, which was never the case previously. And the fans hated that version of him. But fast forward to 2021 and in the other suicide squad movie and the Snyder cut, the Joker is back to being portrayed as a loveless monster. And the fans roar their heads off with "GIVE US MORE!" Wonder woman: everyone loved her in BvS and in 2017 and in the Snyder cut. But in WW1984 when they tried doing something new with her character everyone went "This is trash!" What petty, selfish, pathetic people without lives some so-called DC fans really are aren't they?
@jaroslavkusl.10492 жыл бұрын
Yea , kind of reason why DC kneels down to those fans, because they are scared to loose money , whenever there is different take on character and so on, basically marvel fans aren’t brain dead to realise that comics are just books to extend the universe they already love and not the main source of knowledge to imply on the public media. Marvel fans do know that there are things to make better and fix what have been done shitty in the comics (spiderman was a big deal but I’d say he is too popular character for not debating about how he is being presented in public media so there were fans raging over it), (don’t like mcu or Dcu) but DC fans are the once who keep trying to push their characters only in one direction , (such as batman being always dark and greedy and ignoring the golden age of comics at any cost lol) so pretty much, the lack of creativity in which creators of dc have , and dc owners sweating over anything which isn’t resembling comics , this is what keeps dc fan-service to be at its lowest , while dc fans are hugging their fav comics at a spare time

Best live: Keaton's Batman. What the movie lacks in "theatricality," it more than makes up for in drama and cinematography. Best animated: Batman the Animated Series. From the opening blood pumping theme to the story arcs and action sequences it's awesome. Take any episode, turn it into a live movie, guaranteed $1Billion at the box office. Honorable mention: Dark Knight. If Keaton didn't usher in a new era of Batman, you would have to give it to DK. Others worthy of a watch: The Batman, Batman Begins, Batman Beyond. And if any Batman just screams for a movie adaptation, it's got to be Batman Beyond.

While they’ve got very similar design philosophies, the creators of the two shows have stated they aren’t the same character several times. At the time the two shows came out , the DCAU was still the top priority, and these were both partially pitched as separate reboots of their more successful characters to draw in younger crowds. In fact, the reason Robin didn’t show up until after Batgirl in The Batman can be significantly credited to the fact that Teen Titans was already on at the time, and one creative team had to wait for the other to finish.

If there was a sixth season I think it would be the Injustice league or Legion of Doom or whatever you call it.

a criminally underrated show for sure, it wasn't perfect, I didn't like the design for Bane for example yet Mr. Freeze's look was fantastic, however was sadly just a petty criminal which was a lame choice however and who could forget the tragic character that was Ethan Bennet aka Clayface, you really felt for the guy whenever he was on screen, his hatred and anger towards the Joker was truly justified to me, the series was just phenomenal entertainment wise as well, it had some amazing elements and hell, the humor was also great, the Joker was as zany and entertaining to watch even though it was such a different Joker (one of my favorite moments is where he gets a sidekick in the form of a classmate of Barbara which he named Prank, he's trying to dunk the kid in the chemicals that turned him in the Joker and Barbara retorts with "Let the kid go Joker" to which he brilliantly responds with "I'm trying to" it never fails to make me laugh) but yeah, sadly nothing we can do about the general public not knowing this series, however we that watched it will luckily remember this great show for what it was
