Thank you so much. My animation teacher wanted me to do an animation with a ping pong ball and a bowling ball, but the the ball she gave us to work with won't scale, so my pingpong and bowling ball would end up the same size. At the rate she answers her e-mails, and with hardly anything free that's pre rigged, I decided it was easier to make my own. I've got nearly a year's experience modeling in Maya, no experience rigging, so this will be my first foray into that.

@@WhatMakeArt One question, so how come when I go to the connection editor to modify the controller is factor greyed out? When I make the connection, it also doesn't do anything.
@WhatMakeArt2 жыл бұрын
You likely didn't click everything in the right order in the properties on the right. You have to select everything in the right order for it to be activated. I know it's frustrating but I recommend trying to follow the steps exactly

A little update: Connecting the squash attribute as shown in the video may not work for you anymore, depending on your Maya version. To fix this, select the squash_ctrl controller and the squash1HandleShape in the node editor, then connect the Squash attribute to the Factor of squash1HandleShape.

How does one figure this out on their own? jeez, some things in maya can be really crazy sometimes.
@WhatMakeArt10 ай бұрын
All software and processes can be a little confusing for a bit but generally become more familiar with use, but Maya has a lot of legacy interfaces that can be extra confusing

@@WhatMakeArt Aw yes, I remember the first time messing with music recording software, but this is even more of a mess. I feel like it's definitely something you can't learn on your own unless someone someone knows how to do it, because things are very specific. Thank you for your clear and concise instructions, this will help me animate my joyful rubber ducky XD.

It worked well for the entire animation but when i export it in FBX and use it in another scene or engine, the animation plays without the squash movements. Do you know why?
@WhatMakeArt Жыл бұрын
The squash is a deformation, so perhaps it needs to be baked or frozen, have not imported it as an FBX before

it worked but if I add a global scale on the ball the squash don't work anymore, the squash handle scale too but it feel like it's not, someone know I can fix this please ?
@WhatMakeArt Жыл бұрын
Is everything parented to the global scale?
@Cocoandco_off Жыл бұрын
@@WhatMakeArt Thanks for the quick answer ! Yes everything is parented, I have a main group named 'all_anim" which has a global scale on it. But I found a solution, in the node editor I connected the squash attribute output from the squash controller to the factor attribute of the squashHandle. In the outliner I put these two out of my group "all_anim" then I created a new nurbCircle into "all_anim" and I put it on the top of my sphere geometry. (with a freeze transform and a delete history of the nurbCircle once I placed it) And again in the node editor I connected the translate Y of this nurbCircle to the input of squash attribute of the squash controller. Then I hide the squash controller and the squashHandle (which are still out of the group "all anim") into the outliner and the viewport so I can only see my all_anim group in outliner, and have the nurbCircle that work with the globalscale in the viewport. It's a little messy for an explanation and my english isn't perfect sorry 😅

When you import it, make sure it's referenced correctly, sometimes the actual controllers will be inside a folder on the left of the screen

The inputs of squash1handle aren't whitened out to make a connection. Instead, they're totally greyed out and when I click the squash attribute on the left and then the factor on the right in the connection editor; there's no connection being made. It's just blank and the squash does not work. Any idea how I can correct this issue? Would be really helpful. Thanks in advance. :-D
@WhatMakeArt3 жыл бұрын
You have to click squash over in the right hand side of the screen first so that you can get the right attributes. Go back and look at the video and make sure you do everything exactly on the right order and it should work
@isshmeet3 жыл бұрын
@@WhatMakeArt oh yes. I went over it three times. They’re always appearing greyer out. Tried it with 3 polygons with enough subdivisions too to make sure that it’s not the subdivisions causing an issue. Still the same. But yeah I’ll probably try it again if it works in any way. Thanks. 🙂
