We could do some more advanced part modeling, try some assemblies or even some drafting tutorials. There's also CAE which is available in Fusion 360. I'm looking forward to doing some materials and metallurgy videos but go ahead and give me a steer. Leave a comment.

I'd like to see an intermediate/advanced part modeling series, the blueprint reading, the assembling parts to a whole unit, and not mentioned was how one would put together a blueprint for a functional part. Hobbyists at home aren't usually given design specifications but must cobble up something themselves.

I went through all 16 lessons a couple months ago, and found out a friend of mine is in the middle of your course as well, by fluke chance. I was telling him how I really hope you continue making lessons into the more intermediate levels. Your teaching method is very patient and effective. The repeaticious approach is really the only way I actually retain information. As well as being able to print the drawing and practice on my own. Please do more.

Thank you SO MUCH for these absolutely incredible tutorials. They were engaging, incredibly informative, and so easy to follow. I loved them so much that I completed all 16 of these in a single day - and had a ton of fun doing so. Your method of teaching is excellent, and I wish I could have you as a professor! Thanks Arnold for this great series of tutorials. I have enjoyed learning and practicing the different ones. This series is the best I have found for Fusion 360 and I look forward to future series/tutorials that you produce. A tutorial on how to transfer a design to the stage of where it can be transferred to a CNC machine would be great. Also, how to join multiple components together to form a complete model and being able to add fixings and fasteners. I want to be able to use Fusion 360 to design my wood working project. Keep up the good work.

Greetings from Canada Arnold ! Excellent series on Fusion 360 and I'm looking forward to more. You being a "real" prof will really add to the quality of your videos. I'm a retired electronics engineer and have been teaching myself Fusion 360 for some time but I also "spread the love" locally whenever I can with the local Makerspace putting on little tutorials and seminars. Just discovered your youtube channel and i love watching the videos. I'm a mechanical engineer to trade and when i was an apprentice there wasn't any CAD, CAM or CAE, we done everything on a drawing board with a pencil and a T-square. I still use a drawing board as the first stage in the process of getting an idea out of my head and creating a visual peice. All that aside i think your tutorials are brilliant and you have definately got my interest. I hope you continue to make more videos as you have a fantastic style of teaching. All the very best.

Thankyou Dr Jekyll! I'm encouraged. Believe it or not there is still a place for pencils, most designs are at least sketched before anyone flips the screen on and its hopeless if the sketcher doesn't understand the discipline.

I just finished all 16 parts. I feel really comfortable with the tool now. Thanks for putting this together. One of the things that I tried doing was drawing the parts before you showed me how to do it. I noticed that how you look at a part will determine if it will be easy or hard to draw. Having an eye for the basic setup is key. I think it would be great to see another series on putting parts together or components together. Finally, the advance topic if you were to choose to do one should be designing for manufacturing. I'm sure there are ideal places you would want to put screws based on the material used. Again, thanks for the videos. I was able to do them even though I'm using the latest version of Fusion 360. Based on the comments, we are all looking forward to seeing new content. I can't wait!

Arnold, thank you for the great series. It was just what I needed to get started. Way back many moons ago, I learned mechanical drafting using pencil and paper. I would have become a mechanical draftsman ( I really wanted to go to Detroit and design cars for a living) but for the fact my school only offered this as a filler class in grade 11 and back then AutoCad was dream in some software developers mind. Architectural drafting did not interest me, so I fell back on Electrical/Electronics. Even that did not end up becoming my career choice. I ended up in IT. Here I am decades later learning Fusion 360. Eagle ECAD brought me here but the joy of drawing things has returned, so thank you for that. My primary use case will likely be designing parts for ECAD, Fancy PCB outlines and also enclosures for said devices. I can also see a secondary use for designing parts for 3D printing. You have another subscriber and I look forward to watching the rest of your videos and any future ones you release.

You have the best tutorials that I have been able to find online. You are a very good instructor even though we seem to have different versions of Fusion 360. I've had to find a few different ways at doing things then what you show but that is no real big deal since it allows me the opportunity to learn different ways to solve problems & have the parts come out correct. I would love to see a series of of maybe 15 or so intermediate parts & 15 or so advanced parts with a lot more explanations of what you are doing & why since I am new to the CAD/CAM sector of manufacturing. I have been a machine operator of rotating parts for aircraft engines so reading complex blueprints are natural to me in the inspection parts on the machine. I would also like to see you start with Part#1 & go through the CAM process to make these parts. I know that I've been a little picky about some things & that takes nothing from your great teaching style. I'm just looking at it from a different (machine operator) perspective. Keep up the great work you are doing!!! I'm look forward at viewing your other tutorials & learning more from you!!!

This is an excellent series into CAD. I was in the electronic data storage industry, making Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) and data storage enclosures. It is very rare that prints are used to create the parts, everything is manufactured from the data file these days. Prints are used essentially for inspection and the set up for soft tool parts. One thing we always looked for was an understanding of statistical tolerance analysis. That skill more than almost any other would be a deciding factor in the selection of a new engineer

Thanks Charlie, that's a valuable insight. I'm aware of the value of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and I've been collecting all the info I can on the topic for some time. So you're saying that adding statistics takes it to the next level. Right, I'm on it. That's a future direction for me.

Arnold, Wanted to say how much I've appreciated the 16 Basic Tutorials, so glad I found them! Looking forward to the intermediate lessons. It so happens that we have homeschooling in common and I might share some of your thoughts regarding the future of all levels of education. During the pandemic I've taken on the project of building an almost full sheet cnc. I have it finished and have had the desire for many years of building my own homebuilt airplane. I think the one I want to build is the Zenith CH750 Cruzer from plans, can't afford the kit. I have so much to learn. So far I've made two wing rib form block and I've cut one rib clank with the cnc. This has shown me that I can do it but that I have so much to learn to make this process more efficient. Your videos have been a great encouragement to me in this process. Thank you. Regards. Ivan

Discussing the in's and outs of CAD / CAM / CAE. What to use where and when. Material Science has made staggering advances in the last several decades; how to understand the process of defining and selecting the right materials for a given project is of great interest. 3d printing, I'm interested in large scale for a current project - up to ~ 3.5M. Great tutorial, I am new to Fusion 360 but have used Inventor for making 3D printed enclosures so some of the principals are either similar or very much the same. One of the area's i struggle with is trying to add geometry to things like cylinders or tubes where the geometry protrudes out from the tube diameter which i understand probably needs a plane creating to draw it on, i saw you do something similar in one of the first 16 tutorials.

Arnold I have just completed going through your 16 part beginners videos for fusion 360. Fascinating and very well explained, thank you. I have already learned so many things and have been "playing" around in the program. I have managed also to import .dxf files and turned them from 2D to 3D very easily. My reasons to learn fusion 360 are to be able to take a blueprint of a car showing top,side,front and rear views and then model the body shapes and hopefully split them into various sections. Also to then follow on with the CAM side of fusion 360 to machine the various sections on my CNC milling machine. Engine parts etc would also be done in much the same way. If you could do a video on how to set up and scale a set of car blueprints it would be fantastic and very much appreciated. For me all the curvatures on the old classic cars look like an absolute nightmare to do but guess once a method is taught and followed it should get easier. Anyway just to say a huge thank you again for all your efforts in helping people get started in Fusion 360, best regards, Jeff

Only a few move in major groups. I have only started learning this program, but I’m certain that by the time I have watched all of your tutorials, I should be somewhat proficient. Magnificent, steve b! The only license of Fusion 360 that won't import a Sketchup .skp is the Personal Use license. The other three will but you can also export .obj from Sketchup (...wait, I've got Sketchup Pro, you'll have to check that). Yes, Fusion is what you need to get good at, and it'll depend on how much time you can sink into the learning curve but keep your expectations of progress modest, there really is a lot to absorb.

Thanks Jeff for letting know what your interests are for future content. I've got some new stuff brewing which will be about a project with multiple parts. Drawing creation is a fundamental topic which I'll be covering on the channel and also in some course material. FEA will be something I'll be turning my attention to in the medium term and the plan is to be using the Simscale plugin and the open source Paraview post-processor but it will be all about the very basics for quite some time. Fusion doesn't do configurations like SW, that's one of the key differences, however there are some alternative processes which (at a stretch) you might call workarounds with parameters that can meet the needs of back yarders. There will be people on the Fusion support forums who can help with pushing the limits of Fusion in that direction.

Another thought. Over the years I’ve rarely used configurations in SW. I like playing with parametric design features but most of my designs do not lend themselves to configurations. On the other hand, SW Display states can be useful to assist with design documentation. I’m still about 10% into Fusion 360, the sketcher functionality is familiar. I transitioned from ProE (now Creo) nearly 20 years ago, using SW ever since.

Hi Arnold, thank you very much for all the effort you put into this. It is the first time i really have the feeling i get 3D designing. Watched all 16 parts in one afternoon, will do it again to exercise with the app in a few days. I surely will run into some bumps, but it looked very logical and easy to comprehend. What i am looking for is how to import a canvas (f.i. a fuselage of a gliderplane) and use that as an example to design your own. How to import a DXF file with an airfoil, to design a wing. Those types of applications. Thanx in advance

Wow, what an amazing short course, I stumbled across this looking to improve my cad skills and absolutely have done so, your experience as a teacher really shows in the way this is delivered, so thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'd love to see videos furthering these skills, and any other engineering skills that would be suited to online learning, Also what would be your recommendation for someone with an interest in studying engineering but is not able to study full time ? I am currently improving my math skills through Kahn academy as they are somewhat lacking, Are there any other resources or Online courses you would recommend?
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jackson, that's very kind. If you are going to be studying part-time, look at technician level engineering. There are many reasons; most of the jobs in the industry are at that mid-level and you can then get work in your chosen field and after that do further study if that is your desire. As for recommendations for online resources, browse widely while you are gaining basic skills such as CAD and maths. Don't narrow down your focus except for whatever it takes to get the qualification you need to enter the job market you've targeted. You're on the right track, I wish I had more time to get resources up to slake your thirst for knowledge but you'll be on your way by then. Keep going.

Arnold, well done, very much like your style, very much impressed with the quality of content. I run a large (and very profitable) steel fab shop ... that does not use CAD ...! yes, dinosaurs do exist. My interest in learning CAD / CAE stems also to my home world where i build timber RC yachts .. and who does not like to muck about in boats (or surf boards in your case ?) - so my suggestion is a series on drawing up a boat (sailing is good - International One Meter ?!) then producing .dxf files to send to laser cutters for the components - with a view to extend to 3D printing in the third series. So what are you waiting for ? D'ont keep us waiting ! thanks and regards.

Arnold, I bit late to the party - I just found your channel. I have got to say that it was one of the best courses I have undertaken. It wasn't long before I'd see the problem, try and solve it and then go back and see how the expert did it. I'd then go back and re-do the part again (and may be again if I was a bit clumsy). Doing it on a later version was a slight impediment but I did your "differences" video first and then just hunted. There were a couple of times, that I was at a loss as to how you got a dimension from the technical drawings (e.g. exercise 15 - where did you get the fact that the 5 holes towards the end of the part were 10mm diameters?) Anyway, thank you for the time and effort you put into the videos and the guidance in tackling Fusion 360. My main use will be probable be additive technologies.
