Whats The Difference Gibson USA Les Paul Standard 60s VS Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Standard

I prefer the sound of the Custom Shop over the Gibson USA in this demo. It cut through the mix better and sounded more balanced. That might be due to a more mid-heavy (or less scooped) audio response. I was surprised that both guiitars have unpotted pickups. AlNiCo 3 vs AlNiCo5 also makes a difference.

Great comparison, just finished watching your SG video! I found a fairly light USA 60s Standard (just under 9 lbs) at Sweetwater and upgraded the pickups (Lollars) and electronics and am very happy with the results. Love the custom shop but it’s just too far above my comfort level price-wise. Interesting that the fretboard is quite a bit lighter on the custom, guess I’m used to it being the other way around lol?

They usually keep the lighter figured rosewood for Made2Measure orders, but, like the olden days they make some reissues with them as well. Most of my Custom Shops are dark rosewood, but my '56, '60, and '64 Maestro have lighter figured rosewood boards. Cheers -Ryan

Here is my previous comment: It could be the GLUE or the entire measurement of the guitar.. the width,lenght and weight.. i had an unnamed strat before that has insane resonance and i can feel it in my body.. it is cheap and i dont think its the glue is the reason for that.. the previous owner says its fender made in japan and it has neck replacement.. i only bought it for $150.. i missed that guitar.. Welp im not an expert but my unlimited imagination tells me its not just the glue but the measurement.. that is why the VOS is reborn because it has done via perfect mathematics.. that is my guess..

There’s definitely more than just the glue that goes into it. Resonance generally applies to the vibrancy of the low end, though. My guess here would be Less wood used, the lightweight mahogany, ABR-1 being directly into the body, and the glue. But to be honest… until I play a made to measure reissue with titebond or white or yellow glue… I will never truthfully know. But I have always heard this about Hot Hide Glue and guitars. But at the same time: Everything about these guitars works for me perfectly. Cheers -Ryan
