Everyone has their own opinions, if you dont like the suspension, you have two options. Dont buy the truck, or upgrade it because the tundra is going to outlast anything else you would buy.

I have a 2019 SR5 DC 4x4 with 18” wheels and the TRD rear sway bar. I think it rides just fine. Probably not as good as the other brands with newer technology in their suspensions, but I’ll take the Toyota quality over the plush ride of the other brands.

I got a 2017 tundra TRD off-road double cab. Live up in Manitoba, Canada where it’s -40 in the winter and plus 40 in the summer. The roads here suck to begin with, lots of pot holes & uneven surfaces so I do find at lower speeds it’s bounces around a bit but anything over 65-70km and hour and it’s smoothe!

Had a 2012 Crewmax TRD Rock Warrior. Had Bilstein suspension. Bounced all over like no tomorrow. On the slab concrete highways I'd get seasick from the bouncing. That truck came with 17" wheels and BFG AT tires. My 2020 TRD Pro with the Fox suspension floats over those same roads.

I find the TRD suspension are not trash, they are made for excellent off-road capability. It’s made and build for off-road roads. Not long road trips. TRD are never trash and they are excellent material. I’m a huge TRD fan and I believe there well made that can last.

I have a 2018 Trd sport and along with the stock red Trd front and rear sway bar it was definitely a little stiff. I removed the front shocks and put in fox 2.5 reservoirs that raised it 1-1/4. Much better ride now and I’m guessing it would be better without the stiff sway bars but left them on because 90 percent of my driving is on road and that thing corners great, barely any body roll!

it could be the tundra db cab is bouncing cause the bed is bigger .... I have 2018 tundra db cab limited ..... and most of you are right but is not as like the 2007 tundra I just to have ... I have drove a limited crew max test drove it felt a little better then my truck I also had drove a 2020 trd pro and again crew max still felt better then my truck so my guess would be it has something to do with bed size cause a db cab you usually use it for work so putting weight on the back it helps take some that bouncing . in the crew max I feel is more like an sequoia kind not bouncing and comfortable ride .... that’s what I am goin by ,,, my experience with those but guess what I love it , is nice , nice exhaust sound I don’t I love my truck especially when you put it manual mode and you make the roar that likes music to my ears a beautiful symphony .... well that’s my opinion and hope it help some of you to explain the bouncing on the db cab .,,,,,, just saying have a great day guys you too “tundradude34"

Mark, looks like you have many SR5 owner fans. As for my 2019 SR5 crew max with the TRD OffRoad package, I could not ask for a better ride in a truck. It rides almost as good as my 2018 Highlander. It rides much better than my 2013 Rav4.I don't understand why the Rav4 suspension is so stiff? It's not an off road type vehicle. Many Rav4 owners have gotten rid of them because of the harsh ride. Thanks for the video.

I own a 2017 TSS off-road. I love the truck. I drove a limited and a platinum prior to buying my truck. All 3 rode nearly identical. I wanted the options the TSS off-road had and that’s why I went with it. I planned to lift it 3 inches when I bought the truck. And since have installed 3-2 ReadyLift with BDS upper CA’s. Also I’m running 35 12.50 BFGs on 18 inch Method Double Standard’s. Love the set up. Love the look. I do plan to eventually add BDS 3 inch Fox remote resi coilovers to the front and to remove the spacer lift. Love BDS lifetime warranty! And I’ll put BDS Fox rear remote resi shocks on my Tundra. Just for more off-road capability.

I have a 2018 1794 and had the TRD Off-road suspension installed from the factory. Put over 27000 miles on it and the truck handled the road just fine, was really impressed. Also have the TRD rear sway bar installed. Ok just installed the new TRD FOX PRO suspension purchased from Toyota on the truck. The truck is now sits level. Yes on the road it does seem like you feels the bumps on the road but you can actually feel the fox shocks working each time. Kind of feels like your riding on top of the bumps. Took it over some bumpier roads and it handled the bigger dips and rocks pretty great. Still running the rear TRD sway bar which i may play around with disconnecting it.

My 2020 trd sport rides a little rough but I think it’s because it only has 1500 miles and also it’s a sport so it has firmer valving in the shocks with 20 inch wheels. I think it will soften up as the miles go on. I will eventually lift it with ads coilovers/ deavers and throw on 17 and 35 inch tires, which will change how the truck feels and handles.

Owner of a 2017 TRD Pro double cab here. I really like the TRD Pro Bilsteins, very controlled with good feedback. The harder you push them on rough roads, the better (smoother, yet still controlled) they get. I haven't had them fade on me yet, even over some really long rough, fast roads. The TRDP suspension also is capable of controlling heavy loads and when I'm towing. I added some Coachbuilder +2 shackles to eliminate the Cali-lean when loaded heavy and now the ride is even better. I'm completely satisfied and love driving it. I have driven a couple other DC's and Crewmax tundras over the years with the TRD off-road suspension (not TRD Pro) and didn't like that suspension nearly as much as the TRDP suspension but didn't really focus on it because I knew I would swap those out for Kings or Icons right away. I'd love to drive a 2019 or newer TRD Pro just as a comparison.

I never have done any upgrades on trucks in my life. I have a 2018 limited, and rather than getting the new tundra, I want to upgrade the one I have. I do a ton of hunting and fishing, and I like to go to places a little harder to get to in order to get away from the crowds. Any suggestions? I know I want a smokin cool off-road truck. So far I’ve made a list. Skid plates Better suspension No more Crome inside or out. Winch and bumpers Bigger tires Leveling kit , maybe a lift too. I do spend a lot of time on roads as it is my daily driver, so I need good road manners still

I have the 2021 Tundra SR5 DC with the TRD Off Road package. I love the truck. YES! The ride was annoying. I added some Wescott Sliders that are heavy. Now the ride is much more pleasant on the rough freeways in AZ and back dirt roads. I believe the weight of the truck makes a huge difference. I am still considering a suspension upgrade in the future only for larger tires and a small lift.

I have a 2017 1794. Just put on the Toyota TRD PRO suspension. I am pretty happy with it. It is much less harsh than the bilsteins. I would say it rides 60%smoother and better than the bilsteins. You do feel rough roads but they are much less harsh. Back end is a tiny bit jittery but i dont know if that is my swaybar. Made the choice after seeing the next gen. Especially when the dealer wanted just under 60,000 for a pro in the showroom. I also love the drive line, I feel i am not angled down with a rake. I drove old world style land cruiser troopie while serving that had a fox suspension and saw fox suspensions on up armored current land cruisers. I was very impressed with how handled the terrible roads and any conditions you put them through.

Truck suspensions are designed to haul some weight in the bed, you can improve the ride of your stock set up by adding weight to the bed. A few hundred pounds secured in the bed should do the trick for most of you. If you want a really smooth ride, buy a Sequoia.

To the guy that says its a pain to do a lift with the pro suspension, Ready Lift makes 2 lift kits specifically for the trd pro suspension ( pro + 2 and pro + 4). If you want to maximize ride comfort i suggest softer tires or low load rating tires or staying with smaller wheels with bigger tires with an E load rating. Also get a softer leaf spring pack from Deaver Leaf Springs.

My stock crewmax platinum is too soft, switched to Billie 4600 trd O\R and its stiffer. I feel crewmax are on heavy side for the stock black shocks, too much body roll but the ride is really smood. Billie 4600 stiffened it up but I can see even going with 5100s. I tow a bass boat to long distance fishing grounds so I prefer a stiffer shock over the stock blacks. Everyone's use is different get something that fits your use of the beast.

Tires have a lot to do with how a vehicle rides, more side wall = better ride. If you are lifting and adding oversized tires, you can't blame Toyota for a poor ride - that's on you, and the manufacturers of the lift & tires. I happen to like the ride I get with Michelin LTX M/S tires and Bilstein 4600 series shocks. The primary complaint that myself and others have had since the T100 is rear end sag when hauling a heavy load or towing, the aftermarket offers stronger leaf packs and air lift systems that address this issue on the T100 and Tundra trucks. The rest of the suspension on these trucks is just fine from the factory.

If you change out the shocks it will make a difference. The TRD OR comes with Bilstein 4600, so if you move up the range (5100 or higher) they do help with the harshness. You can go farther than that and change out the coilovers completely but the cost is significantly more than just changing the shocks, but you get what you pay for.

My 2018 Limited rides well, albeit it is a slight firmer than the F150 I had, and I won’t compare to my 2011 GMC Sierra since it was 2X4. The ride did firm up a tad with both of the TRD Sport anti-sway bars now installed. But when I pull that 27’ travel trailer it works amazing. I set up my camper so it is all level, truck and trailer.

I currently own a 2016 Crewmax Limited. Before purchasing, I also test drove a TRD PRO Crewmax and in my opinion, the stock non-pro has a better ride for the majority of the driving that I do, which is around town, 45mph and lower. I do a significant amount of off-road too and while common sense would tell you that the stock TRD off road would be better suited for that, my decision was still to go with what felt better during the around town driving. My truck's ride, both in city traffic and on the highway is pretty good compared to most trucks. I've driven nearly everything that's out there and believe that the Chevy Silverado has the best ride but my Tundra isn't too far off. I've never experimented with lift kits though, which from what I know can improve the ride, with the proper kit selection. Good topic...I'll be interested to hear what others say.

18 Limited CM off road.. A tad boucy in the city, and maybe a beefier sway bar will help. But the highway is smooth. Handles bumps fairly well. My complaint is the oversized body mount, and the LCA not having enough adjustment to add a leveling kit and remove all the positive camber. I test drove a used 25,000 mi 17 plat cm and thought it drove like crap supper soft and bouncy. This was however in arizona and the truck was likely used off road.. it was bad enough i almost stoped looking at anymore Tundras. Granted the lack of dirt roads around NYC. Has my still wondering how it does off road.. open to suggestions.

Hey guys, I have a 2020 Tundra SR5 Crewmax. It's only 2-wheel drive with stock suspension with a 2in leveling kit. I constantly hear weird "clamping" sounds when I turn the steering wheel at low speeds or just barely tap the brakes. The only way I can describe the sound is like someone banging two metal pots together in a kitchen. I already had 3 different mechanics look at it, including the Toyota service center, and no one can figure it out. I don't think it's the bushings because the tires didn't move when it was on a lift. The brake calipers were already checked and I don't see any loose bolts. Ugh this is frustrating. Has anyone ever experienced this? Thank you for your help.

@belanger9
@belanger9 4 жыл бұрын
The stock tires are only 2 ply so won't be that stiff which will increase the bounce - but it's more in the leafs where your issue is. They are on the soft side - if you're towing all the time adding different bump stops or going to air bags will help. What are your payload numbers at while towing? That's the problem the Tundra has more than the trailer weight itself.

I'd bet most problems with Tundra suspension were created by the addition of larger tires with heavier ply rating. Never drove a stock Tundra that did not drive smooth as glass. It's the modifications that change the ride, nevertheless with modification my Tundra's have still drove nicely. Mark if you want to add more height to your new Pro, Ready lift has a new lift specifically made for the Tundra pro models to add 2 more inches of height to the stock pro's 2 inch lift, for a total of 4 front and 2 rear.

Stock TRD springs/black shocks: bad ride and handling 2WD TRD spring/bilstein "Red" shocks: Nice ride/floaty handling 4WD springs/bilstein "Yellow" shocks: ok ride/decent handling (similar to stock) 4WD double cab springs/KYB gas adjust shocks: TIGHT ride/great handling(+10% too firm) 2010 DC/TRD suspension: Good on hwy. Ehhh around town. Has terrible front to back bounce/rebound. Replaced shock all around with Bilstein "Yellow" no real change. Rides a lil better. Shocks should be fine as long as they're still in good working condition. What will help you out more would be either new, better bump stops or going all the way up to adding air bags. The additional leafs are a good first step, those 2 options would be the final steps in really helping the Tundra pull that trailer easily and comfortably.

For a great riding truck it has to be an F150 hands down. For a truck that rides tight and can drive over just about anything without any damage at all - Tundra hands down.

That's where it's subjective - the F150 has no feel, it just rides like a cloud, there's no feedback which does not inspire confidence to me. F150's are somehow too soft and too light for their own good, I'll take a heavy stiffer truck any day over that.

I hope the next gen TRD pro comes with actual off road suspension like a raptor. Also hope the next gen does not suffer from the infamous tundra BED Bounce hope they put an actual frame underneath the new one that isn’t so flimsy

2020 crewmax limited TRD..Total dog shit, I'm constantly fighting the road, won't stay straight to save my life... Anti sway bars??. I put a 3" lift with 305 KO2'S, the same.. Gonna trade if I can't figure it out... Have taken it to my dealer several times.. They say it's all good.

Does it pull to one side consistently or back and forth? Is it also windy when you're checking how straight it goes? Any clicking or thunk when turning only 1 way? I'd also say get a friend who has driven trucks before, don't tell them about the issue, and see how long it takes for them to pick it up. The dealer is just going to look at alignment specs and at most take it for a test drive and likely won't take their hand pressure off the wheel to see what's wrong. And if the 3" lift wasn't done by the dealer than they have no interest in fixing it, to them it's not their problem - unless something broke it's not a warranty claim, they don't care about rough or weird rides.

belanger9 feels like I hit any imperfection in the road and the truck wants to go straight for the curb. It's very frustrating, thanks for the info.

@@davecaudill6617 Sounds like something is loose. When you lift it can you shake any wheel easily and make it move independent of the rest of the truck?

I think all the suspensions that come on all the tundras are all the same . The shocks are different make/ colour but that’s it. Are we just taking Toyota’s word for it ? The TRD pro has a mild lift but that all. Oh ya I forget about the stickers. They’re different. Prove it to me ?

The shocks are all different - I forget all the exact numbers, but they are definitely different. OR suspension is Bilstein 4600's for sure, 14-17 TRD Pro was like the Bilstein 5160's, while the 19-20 TRD Pro is like the 6112's (it's roughly Bilstein's equivalent to the Fox shocks found on the Pro). Going from SR5 to Platinum they are basically in the 4600 range, just tuned different and more street friendly than off road friendly. I'm not sure if there's a spring rate difference for the Pro's, but the rest do have the same springs. As for the rest of the suspension it is the same - control arms, knuckles, etc. but that can be said for any manufacturer when they don't do crazy price increases.

belanger9 like I said , the shocks are a different make/ colour and that’s all. There’s no spring rate or any other things . I’ve been driving Toyota’s for 40 years including 25 years driving 70 series in underground mining , and I know that Toyota didn’t get where they are by giving away things. They like to keep it simple. So don’t try to sell me on a “ special off road suspension “. It’s stickers and some different colour shocks. Like I said prove it to me.

Springs on non-Pro models are the same, but shock valving varies by TRD package (none, sport, or off road). However TRD Pro is entirely different springs and shocks up front. Early pros were tuned Eibach springs and bilstien remote resivoir 2.0s (at 2.0” diameter they’re wider diameter than other TRD shocks being around 1.86”, which provides fade/cooling and valving option benefits). 2020 changed shocks to Fox. Springs out back are same.
