No disrespect to Double Trouble, but that is the best version of my favourite song that I have ever heard. You hear people say Stevie was one of the best. You can shorten that. Stevie was the best. Period. There are a lot of greats in the history of 20th century, western pop music, but no guitar player offered more.

Stevie was a humble guitarist who acknowledged everyone's contribution to music. But Stevie Ray Vaughan was built different. He perfected his craft to a level in my opinion to which no one yet has achieved. Greatly missed. RIP Stevie Ray. You are greatly missed 🥲

Yeah, but the other dude on the Strat needs to dial it back. Stevie is the star and the dude is distracting. The director and cameraman knew this and angled him out as much as possible.

In 1984 Stevie won two WC Handy Awards, for instrumentalist AND for Entertainer. The blues is sort of held at arms length by some. The Handy organization has worked to change that. The awards are held in Memphis yearly, and are legit. On the podium while accepting the award, Stevie broke down and wept. He was inconsolable. Finally he gathered himself and apologized. He explained that guitar had been a natural occurrence, but that he was humbled by the recognition of his vocal talent by “people that truly knew”. He was still unknown to the general public, still hoping that his talent and passion would support him- something that eluded 99% of blues men before him. True award, true talent, true story.

I've heard plenty of "all-star" collections on stage before, but they're usually just there for name appeal, give a bump in ticket sales or ratings. The songs performed were competent, professional and ultimately dull. This gathering however makes me feel like I'm hearing this song for the first time, and as it was meant to be played. Wow. I am just flat out amazed. I mean... Jesus Christ, man. I have replayed it for the 6th time and I am laughing my butt off at the pure talent and joy of playing together i've just witnessed. Thank you for unearthing this unbelievable treasure.

It was Vaughan who became an all-time Blues legend after the very 1st note we heard him play. It was he who was ear-marked and destined to become the "Heir Apparent" to BB King as the new King of the Blues for the younger generation of Blues fans. His loss is a blow the Guitar community and the Blues community has never recovered from.
