This was the night Stevie Ray Vaughan officially took the gloves off and became the GOAT. From the seamless guitar switch, to the MID-NOTE plug change, to the soul of the singing. Then, THAT SOLO. Almost three straight minutes of shredding. Live feedback control with manual amp changes WHILE STILL PLAYING. The soul he pulls from Charlie is UNBELIEVABLE. Then the behind-the-back spectacle, into the break. But the true testament: after the break, he restarts for the rest of the solo FROM BEHIND THE BACK. Then he plays with his teeth, loses a tooth on stage, and keeps going. This is not a blues show. This is a religious experience. This is a man ascending to the top guitar providence.

Losing someone who makes that choice to move on hurts as much as someone who passes on. My ex wire told me she no longer wanted to be with me. We met at 15 years old and am in my mid 50s now. I don't wish her any ill will but a little part of me wishes she would come back to me. Not sure how to measure pain but knowing she could come back but chooses not to still hurts. I even remarried and that was a disaster. Very sorry about your loss.

Greatest guitarist ever IMO. People are so blown away by his soulful guitar expertise, that his vocal talent is mostly overlooked. Stevie had a pitch-perfect voice, melodic and tender when appropriate, or husky bass-laden throat growl when appropriate. He was, IMO, musical perfection. This song really showcases his vocal talent.

Stevie played in quite a few bands....growing up in Texas! Always as guitar, rhythm or lead! Glad he started vocals....he had a different voice! Guitar playing......no explanation!
@garlandmoney93103 жыл бұрын
In early recordings, he was holding back, more like Hendrix When he kinda talked his way through the verses. His voice grew with time to a powerful presence, every bit as much of his total package as was his playing. Add the seemingly effortless moves and his singular fashion taste in hats and outfits and they all created one dynamite persona.
@garlandmoney93103 жыл бұрын
@TD S it was all about the flow. I remember one of the old blues legends saying "the thing about Stevie, he was like a channel. He never dried up. I never saw him have to think about the next thing to do, what note to play. He just knew and he did it." No higher praise is possible.

SRV was just unbelievable. He died on my 17th birthday, Wow, hard to believe that was 34 years ago this month. I heard his name every now and again and occasionally saw it in a guitar mag, but it's a shame I didn't understand how much I should appreciate him until he was gone. My head was in heavy metal and the 80s shredders like Vai and Malmsteen and whatnot. But when the dust cleared SRV is the guitar legend like no other. He's like a character out of a movie or something. His legend, his story, his archeytype is renown as his music which are staples on the airwaves all across this great land. When's the last time you walked into a bar or turned on the radio and heard Yngwie? Stevie was one bad motorscooter and his music is played anywhere people gather to this day.
