We used to get caramel tart just like that at primary school with the sprinkles 😊. In a big traybake. Square slices. Delicious
@WhatsForTea5 жыл бұрын
Same here :) I was going to do it in a square pan...to keep it authentic, but ended up using the round pan...simply because it was loose bottomed.

Thank you for this recipe, I never had this at school but my Gran was a school cook in the 70s and used to make this at home too, she died a while ago now though my mum took up the mantle, she has a old bottle of Rayner's butter essence she used for this tart which is nearly gone and you can't buy anymore so we have it hardly ever these days, other essences have never given that same smell and flavour so I'll try this recipe and see if I can find that same feeling and taste

Add the butter and condensed milk first, then add your syrup and sugar once it is warm. Bring to boil slowly once sugar is combined, This will avoid burning the sugar initially. But yes stir like crazy :) Great recipe and I really enjoyed making it :)

OMG Cheryl!! That was one of my favourite puds at school! Served with thick chocolate custard 🤣 The other was that version but fudge?! I think, exactly the same with chocolate shavings on top. Ooooft! Y’know you should do an ‘old skool’ school pudding playlist!! Oooo yummo! Not sure my blood sugars would like it but I will hahaha! Oh gosh don’t get me started on the weather. 4 day heatwave here in Cambridgeshire (33-31C for 4 days - unbearable 🥵). One of my kitties has now gone missing to top off the rubbish hot week, so I’m worried sick. Thanks for the video though Cheryl, always puts a smile on my face, especially seeing you at the end on the bike ☺️ Lovely chopping board too xx

Colour looks authentic. Ingredients too. Except our school (Bath, West Country), never added chocolate sprinkles, so for me they kind of detract from the authenticity of the tart. In our neck of the woods, it was called Butterscotch Tart. Mums rushed to buy it on school fete day. Was always the first to sell out.
