Yes!! So glad you loved it! I liked the book a lot, even as a straight guy this hit home for me. This film needed to happen and I can't wait to see it. I also love the casting choices btw. :)

I'm happy to hear that. I am disappointed though to see many other straight guys downvoting this on imdb or other review sites by giving it a 1, it's a shame.

I'm really excited to see it! But also, just on the topic of this movie opening the door for other more diverse LGBT stories: There's another absolutely wonderful and life affirming YA novel called Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe about gay Mexican American kids in the 1980s (imagine: a gay story taking place in the 1980s in Texas, no less, and it is HAPPY!), and there have currently been script readings for a movie adaptation, so I'm super super excited for that to happen in hopefully 2019 :D It's still cis gay guys and everything, but the Mexican aspect of things plays a big role in the story, which is a nice diverse touch! So yeah, I'm thrilled at the possibilities for other LGBT stories (coming of age and otherwise) if Love, Simon has opened the door for these types of narratives to become totally mainstream! But in it's own right, as well, Love Simon looks really lovely and adorable and I can't wait to see it :)

Aaah I love Aristotle and Dante! I wasnt aware a movie was in the works for that as well. So happy about that :)
@stephaniel28506 жыл бұрын
It's one of my favorite books :D And yep, all seems to be going well with the movie process - they actually just had a public reading of the script a week or two ago, and reports floating around the internet from people who went are that it is wonderful! Also the kids they cast so far (though casting is subject to change as it's still early in the process) seem really perfect

Thats amazing. I just saw some pics and I'm happy the author seems heavily involved. Can't wait to follow the progress of this movie!

I loved Aristotle and Dante and I can't wait to see it as a movie, especially because the characters are people of colour. So many of these lgbt films are all white characters.

I just looked it up and Alonso was on point. It really was filmed in Georgia. It was filmed in Atlanta. Kinda funny how he guessed right.
@bettyg97076 жыл бұрын
Just like Alonso said, it's so white and middle clasa cuz if not, it will not even be made.

There's nothing wrong with that. It's what people will see.

So Moonlight wasn’t made? Can people please stop trying so hard to be good little social justice warriors every single second of every single day? There’s no reason to criticize a movie JUST for having white middle class characters. We can elevate more diverse content without having to shit on white people’s content. To criticize a movie just for having white characters is just as racist as it would be to criticize a movie for having black characters. Being racist against white people is not the solution to racism. It just adds more racism.
@jcmea136 жыл бұрын
Moonlight was a small indie on a 3 million dollar budget not a big movie wide released by a major studio
@diegom60536 жыл бұрын
jcmea13 Yeah because Love Simon has a 50 million dollar budget? wtf u talking about. Both are low budget movies.
@AWSVids6 жыл бұрын
And yet it was celebrated and won Best Picture, while Love Simon gets criticized just for having white middle-class characters and I highly doubt it will even be nominated for anything, let alone win Best Picture. So this whole notion that a movie like Love Simon is somehow inherently more accepted than something like Moonlight would be... is bullshit. Based on nothing more than a preconceived notion that everything is racist/sexist/classist/whatever-ist, even when the situation in question doesn't actually call for such notions. Sometimes a movie that happens to have white middle-class characters... just happens to have white middle-class characters. It's not like movies with white middle-class are just going to disappear going forward. So is this criticism going to happen every single time? If not, then why this time exactly? Of all movies to criticize for not being diverse enough, why choose a movie about a gay teen that has several people of color as supporting characters? It makes no sense.
@sophiem60506 жыл бұрын
People complaining that "Love, Simon" is "too white and too cis" pisses me off so much. The majority of America is white and cisgendered so of course, most American films are going to star white cis actors. Changing Simon to a poc trans/non-binary person would just be unfaithful to the novel and frankly would make no sense. Also two out four of Simon's best friends are black, the drama teacher is a black lesbian and two other notable characters/important characters are black. If people are that "sick of white cis gays" then how about they go write their own novels, their own scripts - instead of sitting and complaining.
@AWSVids6 жыл бұрын
Fandom Trash Yeah, I really don’t get why that complaint has even been brought up. How is it not racist to criticize something for being “too white”? People really need to learn that being racist against white people is not the solution to racism. It just adds more racism.
@vingram1006 жыл бұрын
You are no longer the majority, no mater what fake data you can create to manifest your superiority.
@sophiem60506 жыл бұрын
V Ingram ummmm cis people will always be the majority. Trans people make up 0.5-0.6% of the American population. And of course the ethnic minority population is growing but it is still not the majority - don’t know where you implied whit people were superior simply stating a fact they are the majority of the US. As I said - stop complaining and write your own stories instead of expecting others to do it for you

I suggest that people red the book Love, Simon is based on "Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda." This is a line that Simon types in during one of his tirades to Blue early in their online relationship. I get that the movie had to take over three hundred pages and sqeeze it into a film that is actually long at one hour and fifty minutes. The film goes by fast and there are a few differences, why they got rid of Simon's eldest sister and why Simon's youngest sister wasn't in the girl grunge band with Leah was missed. Also, the many discussions about what Simon's mom does making all things Oreo. Also, Martin is given a pass in the film whereas in the book Simon decides not to befriend the guy anymore since Martin proves to be a selfish, self-interested prick.

Watched last night with the girlfriend and her best friend and they were swooning and saying "awww" and crying like you'd expect 19 year old college students to be 😂. I thought it was very good besides the opening few minutes - the whole opening sequence was just so boring and seemed artificial so I was scared the rest of the movie would be the same. Glad to say that it was not!

My hesitation isn’t that the character is white and male it’s the whole coming out plot line. Looking at his family and diverse friends I’m confused as to why he is so scared. It even takes place in modern day and it doesn’t seem to be set in like Alabama, what is making him think he is going to ruin his life by. Coming out.
@mckennaa36416 жыл бұрын
Bacall McElroy In the book he was afraid to come out because he was scared of his family and friends seeing him as a new person. He didn't want people to see him as anything but himself and he was worried that coming out as gay would make them treat him differently

Guessing that you never had to come out. If you have had to then you wouldn't be so bewildered. Sometimes the people you think will be fine disown you. Sometimes the people you think will freak out are like, "Meh."
