This movie was fucking amazing, just watched it. Took a couple of people that aren't really into long movies, considering this movie was 2 hours and 15 minutes, I was kind of iffy. But we all came out of the movie really satisfied, it was really interesting, really funny, and kept your attention throughout the movie. 10/10 would highly recommend. Finally saw this last night. Looking for reviews and discussions, it’s eye-opening how many white folks online are incensed at how “racist” and “divisive” it is. What is with the immediate “reverse-racism” reaction? That seems like what the movie is about in the end. But then we’re treated to witnessing that rxn in real time. There are a couple of black people who feel the same, blinkzone. I've actually corrected some that have used it towards me. For example, I would tell them I'm not your 'nigga' or 'nigger.' (This happened between myself and another black guy who passed by me on a Friday night in a lively Santa Cruz, a few years back during college, saying 'hello' in his own way to another black man....although, I'm a bit different in how I see myself and how I talk). In the workplace -- previous retail job as a shift lead -- I've even spoken out against it; either version isn't appropriate for the workplace, in my opinion.

+manansis86 It's one of Spike Lee's signature shots--the rolling dolly shot. He uses it in many of his movies. I first noticed it in "Jungle Fever." As for it's artistic meaning here...well, I suppose it's up to personal interpretation. (I don't have one. I'd have to consider it).

It is a movie adaptation of a book that was written about a true story and the author of the book is the black officer in the story and he has stated in interviews that the writers of the movie changed a huge amount of the story that he wrote about in his book. For one they made the white undercover officer Jewish and made that an important element although that was not true in reality also the black cop was never beaten by white cops. That Charlottesville footage at the end felt way out of place. It had NOTHING to do with the story that we just saw. It felt like Spike put its in there to tie it in to the current state in our country. And that was also done a few times in the movie. There were at least three nods to Trump; one so blatantly obvious, I thought the actors would star right into the camera. I get he wants to make the statement that things are still bad in this country, but that felt like documentary footage for a completely different story.

Charlottesville were white supremacists reeking havoc on protesters. This movie was about a black undercover cop infiltrating the KKK in the 70's. What part of those stories connect, other than racism at the core? Had this been a film about the Charlottesville riots or a story about the racism becoming more open in our society today, then of course it would fit. But pick one. Believe me, I"m not the only one that felt this way. Scott Mantz of Collider said that scene took him out of the movie.

Well that's actually a good comparison... The problem is Tarantino's movies are always credible. Meaning they respect the rules of he universe the creates. I love Spike Lee but this movie was not credible... Which is damning for a movie based on a true story. The characters were one dimensional, the tone is off, the ending sequence doesn't match the rest of the movie... Chi Raq was not realistic but it was credible and coherent. This here is really weak. It's nowhere near the best of his career. I preferred mo'better blues, Malcom x, do the right thing, inside man, chi Raq...

I've been thinking all summer about how funny it is that there are two movies that have come out in the span of two months in which the main character, a black man, uses a carefully crafted white voice and pretends to be white when talking on the phone to white people. That's such an extremely specific plot point for two movies made by two totally different people to have.

"Black" film requires a Black critic lol

I'm just surprised they found an actual Black film critic and didn't just trot out that thot from Dragrace like they usually do.
@dirgramsey61326 жыл бұрын
Damned if they do damned if they don't as long as there's a white person anywhere near something they'll get called racist.

They did Blindspotting and Get Out without the black critic. Maybe he asked to be on it

terribly biased, 1-dimensional characters, and honestly not that funny. i feel people are just brainwashed to like it.

I feel that there were plotholes. But other than that i totally disagree with you. This movie was the best ive seen this year and it was HILARIOUS to me at certain points. But thats just opinion on comedy. While in the process of being entertaining and delivering a powerful message. The movie was 2 hours long, and i feel they did all that they could as far as character development that would not make the movie extremely long and get through the story as well. I do not know how they couldve developed the characters better honestly, without making the movie characters personality ridiculously unrealistic or making the movie longer. You could tell that this movie was also made with passion by spike. Honestly the best movie ive seen this year, honest, no brainwashing. And from all other reviews. You are definitely in the minority of opinion on this movie

I honestly don't understand where this movie got all these 95% reviews from, but that's what led me into the cinema with friends tonight, we were supposed to watch a black comedy.... in the whole cinema, only ONE GUY LAUGHED, while rest of the people (black too) just sat in silence and confusion, for over 2 hours... If i wanted to watch a heavy political brain-trashing wash up, i would put on CNN or Fox, UNACCEPTABLE rubbish!!!

Whats to understand? Thirsty white liberals lap this shit up. Writing glowing reviews for a movie made by a black guy who makes all whites out to be racists is the type of thing they crave most. Its a perfect opportunity for them to virtue signal and show off how not racist they are.

While I am absolutely going to see this movie, here's a quote (capstone) from the NYT Review: "Maybe not everyone who is white is a racist, but racism is what makes us white." I apologize for tossing that in here when nobody at WTF?! made that comment, but it definitely got a WTF?! response from me. The movie itself sounds like It's got a lot of smart commentary, but 90% quality doesn't mean you should treat the 10% shite as anything but.

Gangrel Aussie The way I am interpreting that comment is that skin color is an actual physical difference between human beings across the globe. But race is a social construct which humans created to catergorize one another based on that difference. Without race, we wouldn't have racism so in a way the fact someone is called white, black, yellow, red, ect lead to racism.
@KainErrow6 жыл бұрын
@@defro125 That may not be a bad interpretation; It's always interesting who does or does not count as an "X-american" (African-American, but not Caucasian-American?) but It's still a little curious the same wasn't argued as what makes a person of color black (counter that whites are in the position of power). Anyway.

Yeah, instead we would have people discriminating based on if someone were fat, skinny, dumb, smart, acne, ugly, hair, teeth, etc.
