I really Love Vietnam. We visited Vietnam for the first time in 2018 (my idea). We visited Hanoi, Hoi An, and Saigon (HCMC). We've decided that when we travel aboard for 6 month tour of Asia, Africa, and Europe, we will make Hanoi, our home base. So instead of traveling back to the U.S. for the next adventure, we will go back to Hanoi for rest and retooling for our next country adventure. We will rent an apartment there during that time. The food is fabulous and so are the people. I love it.
@20luzer522 жыл бұрын
Even in Hanoi or HCMC, cost of living is still so much cheaper than in Western countries. If you're open minded and eat Vietnamese half of the time at local neighborhood eateries, you'd save a bundle. Being able to ride a scooter (be it buy a 2nd hand or rent), you'd save even more and have the freedom to roam. Best thing about VN is you can live as expensive as in the West if you want, or you can live as cheap as you want but still get high quality and delicious food, travel and stay at pretty nice hotel, etc. It's the flexibility that many of us here in the West don't have. Hope you have a good 2022 and let's pray for containment of covid. I've put off plan to travel to VN for 3 yrs straight now and I'm itching to go.

You assume a person would go to Vietnam and spend his saving. If you're talking about making a living, you also have to consider if a person can make good money when they go to Vietnam, if a person can only make the same level of wages like the locals, then the cost of living isn't cheap.
@20luzer522 жыл бұрын
@@taotao98103 ?!? The way you put it seems odd. For people that are thinking about moving to a SE Asian or a Central American country, the reason is usually to 1) to retire and live comfortably with low stress economically OR 2) work as an expat to take advantage of their advantage in skills or language. No one goes anywhere to "spend his saving" per se nor would they go there to earn a local's wage.
@taotao981032 жыл бұрын

A simple trip to the grocery store with one or two bags of groceries can easily be $150 - $200 dollars.. And for transportation you pretty much have to own a car which is pretty expensive with insurance upkeep and gasoline.. and there are so many other expenses as well.. it all adds up to about three to $4000 a month for basically no frills! @Meg Ahern if you are foreigners and you are WHITE OR BLACK . It’s very inconvenient to live in our beautiful Asian countries like Vietnam 🇻🇳. For example, since you are foreigners White or Black you need a Vietnamese Visa to live in my country. The Visa only good for one year and it will cost you to renew for $180 every year. Then the law said you have to leave the country every Three months before we can let you come back in again. So you have to buy airline ticket and hotel to leave the country Vietnam every three months which the cost can add up over time. Also don’t bring your western ideology like MODERN WOMEN, LIBERALISM, FEMINISM to Vietnam because most Vietnamese hate that SHIET . And don’t voice your opinion or talking craps about Communism of our country Vietnam or our government will LOCK YOU UP IN JAIL AND DEPORT YOU BACK TO AMERICA AND YOUR NAME WILL BE ON THE BLACK LIST FOR AT LEAST TEN YEARS without allow you to return to Vietnam 🇻🇳 . So my suggestion is don’t come to SOUTH EAST ASIA LIKE VIETNAM 🇻🇳 OR CHINA 🇨🇳 OR THAILAND 🇹🇭 even though is cheaper to live in SouthEast Asia because it’s NOT practical and it’s NOT worth it girl. It’s better o you stay in America That’s Match your life style and your personality and you can have all the American 🇺🇸 freedom you want . I am from Seoul, South Korea, and have lived in London, UK for 15 years..well, in Seoul, as a single person, you need 2000 USD per month for affordable life if you pay rent monthly, and if London, it is like USD 2500. If you want some luxury time to time, well, it can be at least 3000 USD in Seoul, and 5000 USD in London. When live affordable, the cost of the two cities are quite similar, but when add little bit of luxury, only London's cost doubles lol it can vary person to person of course, but I have lived as the local for the two cities so I am sure I can compare those pretty reasonably. I live in CA Silicon Valley 😀 with husband and 3 kids. I cook all three meals. I enjoy the International foods of my neighborhood. Where I live we have Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese Japanese, Korean barbecue, Mexican, Indian, Mediterranean, different kinds of Latin, German Greek, Portuguese, Filipino, French cuisine, Italian, Metropolitan organic, and of course good old fashion American! So it all depends on your enjoyment of life but I love where I live. To be able to experience so many different cultures in my own neighborhood. Yes America is expensive!!! With a amazing quality of life. More importantly it’s what you want on a day-to-day basis. I like to experience many different things including what I can call my own. I live so close to San Francisco, Sausalito, Lake Tahoe, Santa Cruz, Monterey bay, Carmel, Southern California, Hollywood. And believe it or not in parts of my city it feels like Vietnam at times it feels like Japan and other times like China which is so cool 😎 but it would be nice to experience being in Vietnam but I don’t speak Vietnamese😀 Your apartment does look more like a hotel to me. But very clean a little empty. And burden free !!! Love your videos ❤️ total cost from my lifestyle is around 3500 a month! Which includes a two bedroom townhouse apartment two vehicles one brand new F150 truck so we pay for a lot of gas a fully furnished apartment of all my junk lol. Food health insurance dental insurance vision insurance life insurance the list goes on I managed to keep it reasonable 😀 I did grow up here. I also love cooking so I can also cook Vietnamese and all the other foods that I mentioned or go out and enjoy them when I don’t feel like cooking thank you be blessed.!!!

You have to pay a month's deposit. This is REALLY HARD to get back from Vn landlords. I am very surprised by the very low cost. It's probably a one-off due to very few foreigners being here due to Covid. Usually it would be over double this cost. Note this. Electrical goods and all imported goods are about the same price as the West. Labour is very cheap. Clothes are almost the same price as the West due to a very high domestic tax. it is very hard to find clothes if you are XL and over size. The shoes are bad quality and expensive. The best shoes are the Chinese cloggs. Wifi in Vn is good and cheap. Travel from city to city by overnight bus is very cheap. Stay in small private hotels. NEVER state in a Government owned hotel. These are the pits, especially in Hanoi.

If landlord doesn’t want to pay back the deposit simply remind him, that money is to cover damages. If you are not getting it back anyways you will kindly start smashing the walls with a hammer until you cause damage equivalent to your deposit.

Hi Van, a studio appt in UK of a similar size to yours, outside of London in a good area with all bills (council tax, water, electric, TV licence, mobile phone, b/band) costs approx £850 -£1,0000/month. If you were to look for something in Central London you would likely pay close to double the above.

I live in Germany and I would say you need around 1500-2000€ per month here. Rents are increasing a lot lately plus the inflation which makes everything else getting more expensive too. I just came back from Vietnam and I already miss the cheap (and super tasty, healthy and diverse) food there! I wish Vietnam wasn’t that far away , otherwise i would drop by much more frequently.

I think electric cost should be mentioned in $/kwh, which is at highest rate $0.14/kwh including tax now for normal household use in Hanoi. It may vary depends on your landlord thou, i know there were friends got charged with some unreal rates from landlord that you should never agree upon. Great video, love your style.
@thecheekymonkey87852 жыл бұрын
This is extremely misleading. Sure you might be able to get by on $650 a month, but that's the very bare minimum . If you include visa fees, health insurance, clothes and recreation you're looking at $1500-$2000...and that's for a single person without kids. If you have kids that you need to send to an international school, you're looking at minimum $700 per kid. Yes, Vietnam is a whole lot cheaper than Western countries, however if you're planning on moving here don't work out your budget based on KZbin cost of living videos. They're always overselling destinations to get clicks and likes. Anyone who thinks they can live here long-term for under $1k a month is in for a rude awakening.

@thecheekymonkey87852 жыл бұрын
@@vananhle5089 it's not easy though. All my local friends pay more than that for very basic accommodation. Even if you get a room for 1tr, what about petrol, food and other expenses? I'm sorry, but I don't see how it's possible to live on $100...no matter how frugal you are. Even if you do manage to survive on that, it's absolutely not a good life. With that said, there are not many city folk earning that little, unless they're a student working part-time. Even a minimum wage worker makes $200-300.

Maybe odd questions: What are the sewers like in that area? Can you flush paper down the toilet? Is hot water out of the tap or with small electric water heaters in the shower or under the sink? How's water pressure? Bath tub? How much for drinking water? What floor of the building is it on? Thanks!

Unless you retire in your home country and have a steady retirement income of at least $1,000/mo while you live in VN you would be in for a sad awakening. What kind of job do you think you can find in VN? The only job that would sustain you there is a position with a western company with investment/factory located there. Those are far and few in between. Those companies locate to VN to take advantage of low labor cost, there is no incentive to hire you while you expecting them to pay western rate salary.

My cost of living in Cambodia is very similar. I spend about $850 a month, but that includes health insurance which you don't have in your budget. I have been thinking about moving soon to Vietnam and I understand about speaking the language. I can speak Khmer and it's a big plus, because it gets you the same price for things as the locals. In the wet market if you speak English you'll pay double. So, if you're going to live in a foreign country for any length of time learning the language is a big cost saver. Otherwise, you can flat-share or stay with your parents and it will be cheaper. Edit: You have such a nice accent, even though I'm a native speaker, I wish i could speak like you.
