When I tell people I was in the Air Force they always ask if I flew. And I always answer them with yes, - - United - - Eastern - - ! Ha ha. About sailing, it is a lot of work, and especially when you're all done for the day and on the dock, then there's more work to put everything away. But it is a kind of magic, to turn off the motor and have the wind pull you through the water. Also, in the 16 years or so that I had sailboats in San Diego, I think I had been to the fuel dock about 5 times! Great show today.

This was a good video for beginning loopers to see a lot of the different important aspects of doing the loop. Radio calls, bridges, passing and meeting boats, and the importance of tide and water depth. Way to go and get ready for another day. Enjoy

Thanks Buck! Sometimes there's no drama and things go smoothly. On these rides we try to educate folks about the procedures best we can. 😎

In all your flying with the Air Force did you ever get to Fairchild AFB Sam? It's here in Spokane, Eastern Washington. My son in law taught survival there for years. Then he was at Eglin AFB in Combat Control. Now he's back at Fairchild as a civilian contractor. Thanks for your service Sam🇺🇲

You are welcome. I'd do it all again. Yes, had two trips to Fairfield. Both were for survival schools! 😯

My Mom and Dad lived in West Melbourne when he worked at the Cape back in 60’s and 70’s. Much cheaper to live there than the Cocoa area. Looking forward to seeing you two Tuesday!

If you are traveling south, mark this cut. I have made this trip several times, from north and south; don't get distracted by an engine issue or anything like that during this stretch. From the north, this is a 90 degree turn to starboard. My first time, I was fiddling with hydraulic steering on the flybridge, when my lookout started turning to starboard from the saloon helm. We were just pumping hard in opposite directions on the same steering. I was below the dash, bleeding air from the hydraulic system. he was hollering to me, as lookout, to make the starboard turn. Even on the flybridge, the engines drove away all sound. I had been single-handling for weeks before he climbed aboard. That was maybe a day after we met. And we have saved each other's butts many times in the decades since. Have a lookout and trust them. And, for us tall guys, if a shorter person tells you they see something different, no matter how focused you are, know that they literally have a different view. He saw what my view from under the dash could not and, years later, he saw what my eyes could not see through a low windscreen. That is boating.

Nice relaxing trip through your old stomping grounds. Sister Joan lived in the area for quite a few years as 'm sure you recall. Does Marina Girl have a new moniker, Anchorage Girl? You both ae great at educating others who are interested in life along America's Great Loop!

Thanks Rus. Yes, I visited Joan and George and her pet boa constrictor 🐍 there in the early 90s.

do you ever use your loud hailer to try to reach boats who don't respond on the radio?

No, we have a portable megaphone, but have not used it for that yet.
