WHEEL 2 WHEEL | Lexus UX vs Mercedes GLA

The 2019 Lexus UX is the latest addition to the Lexus lineup. It is in line with people's demand for these tiny crossover things that are really hatchbacks, but are called SUVs. The American people don't like hatchbacks because they're boring and lame, but SUVs and crossovers are stylish and sexy so that's what they're called. This UX is an F-Sport and as a result is much more attractive than the typical UX.
The closest rival to the UX is the Mercedes GLA. The GLA has been out for a few years and it's showing its age which leaves room for the Lexus to step in and steal the crown. However, the GLA is due for a refresh within the next year or two. This will likely put the Mercedes back on top in this segment.

Little do you know that in lexus it's actually not the leather, but coated polyurethane foam. So in 10 years the coat will start peeling off and on steering wheel the foam will break apart. Knew right away that this review is biased. Thanks for the entertainment tho. Also you sould know what GLA stands for. It's basically the A class of GL. So the cheapest SUV in mercedes lineup.

I currently have the GLA… a nice car but after 12,000kms it’s becoming rattley and now a bit old fashioned. Also the GLA is now dated. We have just driven the latest GLA and the Lexus UX 250h. We have ordered the Lexus. Drives smoothly, more economical, larger boot space, luxury feel and materials used inside. GLA much more expensive to buy in NZ too. Easy decision…. Lexus wins hands down!

MB depreciate so much faster. Cost of ownership, service, repair, maintenance & fuel is much higher. If you want it lease it. If you buy it buy it 2-3yrs old Lexus you can easily drive 15 years.

Lexus is a premium modest Japanese car. Dependable, Fuel efficient, reasonably priced and so on.

It is not premium, it's luxury (even though discreet). Premium is the positioning that Mazda chose, between the upper mass-market Toyota and the luxury Lexus. Premium is - as an example - Toyota Venza.

I drove-tested both (plus the Mazda CX-30, better than the GLA as a quality/price ratio), but I bought the Lexus UX 250h F Sport. After 5 years I am very happy with my decision. If the UX never existed, Mazda CX-30 is a better choice than the Mercedes GLA (Mazda is #3 in reliability and cost, Mercedes is at the almost at the bottom of reliability and has huge TCO = Total Cost of Ownership).

I’ve watched several reviews and readings on the UX. It’s not turbocharged. It’s a 2.0 L CVT engine. No turbocharge. Plus, it takes almost 9 seconds to get to 60 mph 😅

I have the UX 250 h. Everything what is plastic inside scratches to easy . The leather has wear after 10.000 km so it's not the best. Everything else is v.good

Test drove the lexus f sport. I really wanted to love the lexus but, sadly it drove like the corolla it's built on. Very economy feeling. Felt like I was driving a Toyota vs the solid euro feel. Even the feel of closing the door. Very disappointing. The funny thing is I ended up buying an Infiniti QX30S which is a GLA with Infiniti- tuning, exterior body and interior layout. Quite happy. On top of that I got the fully loaded S model that ended up being $$$$s cheaper than the same featured UX f sport. I suggest you demo all three yourself. You'll see and feel what I mean.

The Lexus UX is the ugliest and still using old technology to ensure reliability. UX is just a boring car. Time to review better SUV like X1 , Q3 and XC40 which are much better than Lexus UX.
