I just got off the phone with Richard, from mywheeladapters.com. I have to say he is the most knowledgeable and helpful person for this kind of business. I have been researching and shopping for adapters and would never find the correct and safest adapters anywhere else but here. They make them here in the U.S. and the pricing is so fair I cannot believe it. My adapters are ordered and will be here soon and I may post more on the outcome when I receive them, but so far I am totally happy with my choice of makers here. Thank you Richard, this youtube video got you my business and being able to talk to you personally is what good business is all about.

I have seen many mistakes that are going down the road. Like Hockey pucks used to lift up cabs and boxes on frames, Front suspension lifted so far up that the caster and camber are so far out the tire is almost never parallel to the ground. Enjoy your vehicle but people must really pay attention. Great presentation here. If it saves one person from a major disaster it was well worth it.

the studs on that truck should be 1/2 inch, and the studs on the Hummer are 14 x 1.5. So I would suggest getting a set of and spacers with the 14 x 1.5 studs in them so you could use the lug nuts from the Hummer or the lug nuts that come with the adapters to hold the wheels. You will also need an extra set of half-inch lug nuts told the adapter to the truck because the factory lug nuts will be too large to fit down in the holes of the adapter. Richard

MrLava Lui I'm very sorry for the delayed response I just don't look at this channel very much, you probably have already taking care of your situation but this is a very important point, yes you must cut off or ground down your studs so they do not touch the wheel, if you don't it will cause failure. Another thing with Ford trucks is there strange lug nuts, you will need small aftermarket lug nuts to attach the adapter to the vehicle and then the proper lug nuts for the wheels to attach the wheel to the adapter.

Many Wheels (Rims) are made of an aluminum alloy. Steel bolts on aluminum tend to corrode together. But the issue here is incorrect installation of the adapter. the hub surface must be free of any dirt or rust for the adapter to sit against. the vehicles studs can not protrude past the mating surface of the adapter nor can the wheel nuts on these studs for instance chrome lug nuts. The 2 inner surfaces of the adapter must be in complete contact with each other or else failure WILL take place. Cutting down the studs can work but can also cause loss of temper in the studs. If the studs are too long then replace the vehicle studs with shorter studs and use standard wheel nuts. No cutting or heating of the studs and/or nuts should take place. The adapters are fine and work well if installed properly. The person who had this issue with his is likely a self proclaimed mechanic or one of his friends are.

This mistake is common because it's a poor design. Not allowing longer studs to recede into the adapter its a recipe for disaster. You can't leave it up to the customer to perform needless modifications and possibly void his warranty by grinding, cutting, etc. It's the manufacturer's fault. The best thing to do is not use these things, specially with aluminum threads. There is a reason everything there is cast iron. Good engineering takes into account all these factors to improve reliability and foremost, safety.
@alansupra948 жыл бұрын
+Les Zapata 1.How would you account for ALL different and longer studs? You are going to either make them much taller or drill out resesses into the opposing side weakening the structural integrity of the adapter? 2.Also cast iron isn't used in hubs, steel is which is much different. Also implying the use of cast iron as a adapter is stupid since it isn't easy to machine or work with. They are cast molded. 3. By using any kind of wheels that aren't stock, you void the warranty of most manufactures. 4. The aluminum threads you are referring too are there to hold the wheel together with no gaps. Try running a wheel with this kind of surface mating issue and see if your wheel will last on there. Bottom line: Customer bought a part and didn't install it properly. They come with clear instructions. Your grasp of engineering and reasoning is weak.
@LesZapata8 жыл бұрын
+alansupra94 You're missing the point. If anyone is going to manufacture anything, they are responsible for its fitment. Otherwise, don't sell it to the general public. 1. That's what good responsible engineering is. If one can't design a part to fit every scenario, then develop multiple classes. Engineering means nothing without common sense. 2. Pay attention. I never said to machine cast iron. 3. True, the warranty is voided as soon as the owner starts messing with their car, so don't if you want to keep it. 4. Introducing multiple aluminum parts between the rotor and wheel, fastened by smaller intermediate bolts isn't exactly wise. Considering the potential forces involved, it's like playing Russian roulette with their lives. It's a safety issue. 5. Lots of machinists with fantastic ideas but without a metallurgical degree end up manufacturing aftermarket parts without proper stress testing. 6. Too many uninformed people buy into their marketing hype and slap garbage on their vehicle, unknowingly reducing safety. Single, hub-centric spacers fastened with longer hardened studs is they way to go. Multi-part spacers with intermediate fasteners are and have been a terrible idea. So, don't try and make me the idiot when clearly you don't understand.
@WheelAdapterSpacers8 жыл бұрын
+Les Zapata sometimes people want to do things to their car that was not intended to be done from the factory, so when they buy a product that says it may require alteration for installation the customer is responsible to take whatever action is needed for proper use of the item they bought. If you can't follow directions or get someone competent to do it for you don't use wheel adapters.
@LesZapata8 жыл бұрын
+WheelAdapterSpacers The general public is best regarded as stupid, but that can't be used in court. I'm not a big fan of the 2 piece design for obvious reasons. Lateral forces can strip the intermediate aluminum threads and send the wheel flying into another car, potentially killing more than the idiot who installed them. Single hubcentric designs have been successful in all kinds of racing applications where lateral stress is constantly applied. So, multi part hubs should not be used or only sold to shops that can verify proper installation. It would still be a poorly designed spacer as it's always been for many decades. I really don't mean to piss on anyone's shoes, but lives can be lost by introducing this part to idiots in order to make a buck. Auto manufacturers go through great expense to make vehicles safe, and this counters those efforts.
@alansupra948 жыл бұрын
+Les Zapata Lol no. You clearly don't understand for a variety of very obvious reasons. 1. "Good engineering principles" as you are trying to describe poorly takes into account a host of different variables and scenarios. Taking into account improper installation is NOT one of them. If that were the case then you wouldn't be able to engineer anything as there is always going to be several improper ways to install something that will cause catastrophic failure. That is like getting upset that someone bought the wrong lug nut threads, cross threaded them and their wheels fell off and you saying they should have universal lug nuts with every type of thread. 2. You said "everything there is cast iron" implying that the wheel spacer should be as well. 3. Exactly. Thank you for proving my point. 4. Those aren't small intermediate bolts. That isn't what failed. The bolt held up perfectly fine, it stripped from the tapped aluminum threads. Those aren't "potential forces either". I don't think you are really aware of exactly what happened but have general physics knowledge and are throwing it out there. Exactly what happened is they were installed improperly with the studs against the billet adapter. The adapter held fine for a while because it had a surface to sit on and there were no torque applied in any direction because of this. As the studs ate into the adapter, a gap was created allowing for play and torques to be applied. Here is when bolts stripped due to IMPROPER installation and usage. 5. What would a metallurgical degree so here? Even if he built these out of cast iron (as you implied) the threads would still strip as ANY bolt (even higher than 8.8 grade) would strip the threads eventually. Also clearly you don't have any knowledge of metallurgical properties or the first thing you would mention is galvanic corrosion (which I left open on purpose for you to comment on if you had any engineering knowledge). 6. There is no marketing hype here. Your argument is invalid. No one here is arguing the differences regarding single, hub-centric spacers. That is irrelevant as well. Bottomline: You have zero engineering knowledge and are throwing out jardon you learned on google. Your argument is flawed and invalid and the reasoning is piss poor. By your reasoning, No one should buy any part for their car because anyone can install it wrong and kill themselves.

"for your piece of mind"? All spacers pictured here are junk. You can say what you want about the installers of such shoddy parts, but spacers that don't accept and transfer the appropriate hub nosing for the application are an engineering failure. All spacers shown in this video are a failure of engineering. Basically this video claims that it's a problem that the customers are not better engineers than the manufacturer hired to design the pictured product. Apply that logic to any business that supplies a product to the consumer, and it's nonsense. The lesson of this video is: 'the customer should not buy my product unless they are more qualified to design it than I am'.
@ethansmith90658 жыл бұрын
What are the flaws, so that I know what to look for when buying adapters? and so that I may be a little less ignorant.
@Fopeano8 жыл бұрын
+Ethan Smith So the issue is that the pictured adapters don't have a hub nosing to locate the wheel in the center of the hub. Without that hub nose, the lug nuts are given that responsibility that they are not designed for. The same thing happens if aftermarket wheels are installed on a car without the correct centering rings being used. The wheel may not end up exactly in the center of the hub, and the lugs end up having to support shear loading that they weren't designed for. They're designed for tensile loads only. The hub nosing is what's designed to take that shear loading. If you google image search 'trak+', you will see that all spacers have a indentation in the center for the hub nosing to fit into, and then have duplicate of that (model-specific) nosing on them for the wheel to fit over. That is what you are looking for, aside from the grade of aluminum alloy being respectable enough that the manufacturer advertises what it is.
