The Finale is here everyone, and it's a doozy! I didn't find it as offensively awful as episodes 6 and 7, but that's because it was so predictable, and we'd seen all these problems before. I basically predicted the whole story from the preview trailer and the supposedly emotional moment? Was undercut by the fact he'd barely appeared in the whole show to actually build up any attachment. But this is the end of season 1 so now we know it all, what are your thoughts? Were there any good bits? Did you love the show? Or wish it had never happened, and if so, what was your worst bit? I'm thinking of doing "supercut best bits" of all the reviews to condense them into the highlights. Does that sound like a good idea? Let me know below, and thanks for watching these....lets face it, massively long videos. I'm going to start live streaming on this channel in the very near future, so I hope to see you all there. Thanks for walking folks, appreciate you all!.

The Wheel of Time has three main themes that are important to understanding the series. 1) The duality of men and women as part of the natural balance of the world. Every society and every culture in the series plays around with this idea in very important ways. From the smallest villages with their Village Councils and Womens' Circles to the grand world-shaping organizations of the White (female) and Black (male) Towers, this idea that men and women work both against each other and with each other to accomplish the greatest feats is absolutely central to the story. 2) Choices and consequences. Time and time again, the main characters are provided with key options and choices that have profound effects later in the story. Part of their growth and development is recognizing these choices and being willing to accept those consequences. Even at the very end of the story the Dragon Reborn is given options for resolving the conflict with the Dark One. The Creator gives all of the characters free will and allows them to exercise it as they see fit. Sometimes they make mistakes that come back to haunt them. 3) Sacrifice. All of the main characters are required to make tremendous sacrifices in order to further their goal towards saving the world. Again, their character arcs depend on them understanding the consequences of those sacrifices. The Dragon Reborn in particular is presumed to make the greatest sacrifice (his life) in order to save a world that actively hates him for it (not all the world, but enough people are terrified of him that he might as well be the Dark One in their minds). None of these themes are present in the television series. Instead we are shown a world where the "arrogance of men" left the Dark One free to wreak havoc on the world (spoiler: in the books a *woman* led the effort to drill a hole into the Dark One's prison). At every opportunity, men are denigrated and presented as cowards, running from every conflict. Only women have the strength to stand up and fight and succeed. Men always choose the wrong path. The supposed main characters are shuffled from set piece to set piece with little to no agency of their own. Whenever Rafe introduces material from the books it is stripped of essential context that gives that content significance. The entire show from beginning to end is an SJW skinsuit of the source material.

It will be difficult for anyone to contradict what you have sumned up...... Appalling adaptation and an agenda that does not fit anywhere except in the minds if the writers. The show is terrible on so many levels and with that budget? I wonder if it is the actual cost of each episode. Someone is cooking the books because what we see on screen definitely does not equate to money well spent.

I read the books as a girl and when I heard Amazon had made a series I grabbed my teenage son and although he didn’t know anything about the books or the lore, I assured him there would be war strategy, epic battles and morality being tested. Yes, I admit, as a girl I wasn’t as interested in the battle scenes as I was the working of the power but I assured my son there was no way that this story could possibly be boring for him! He didn’t even make it past the second episode and the only way I did was because I switched to your videos so I wasn’t the ONLY ONE yelling at the tele saying “no! This destroys the entire moral of the story. No more working together, instead the women need to bring the men to heel, to distrust and disagree with them at every turn because they are responsible for the breaking of the world. Gross Amazon, just gross.

Ring of Tamyrlin was an object of unknown properties that Lews Therin wore. Its speculated that it was one of the symbols of Aes Sedai leadership and given to the first among equals. Furthermore, you missed the part where Latra Posae Decume called Lews Therin the dragon reborn. He was not the dragon reborn, He was the Dragon, a nickname of honor given to him in the war against the shadow. Its crazy that nobody spotted this in the writers room. Even in the show Moiraine says: "And they named him Dragon", but forgot about it a few episodes later and now the champion of the light is just always the dragon reborn or something.

I am a fan of the books, regardless of what they did with the show. They're totally seperate, I don't see the show as even wheel of time let alone cannon, I mean it when I say it's fan fiction, just expensive fan fiction. We have a long record of companies screwing up comic book movie adaptations in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It's not easy. But for better or worse, the main priority of companies is to make money, and the people who rise up through the ranks of corporations are financially minded, not creatives. // and all they have to do is stop hiring people who don't want your product to succeed and make money。 Who think other things are more important than success。 The corporate people hiring the Rafe Judkins's of the world are not trying to be idiots. They have the bottom line to think of, first and foremost. The problem is that they aren't creatives but they are control freaks driven by fear of losing money. So they often meddle. And they often choose people who kiss ass well. Which is what I imagine Judkins did.

@@FeebleAntelope Its so easy to make money if you already have money. That's why you see zero effort put into it. Just another triumph of capitalism. The companies structure is that of a tribe or big family, and less of a meritocracy. You just got to know the right people and get a chance to make more money. In what Meritocracy do you give 80 million $ and expect a big success like Game of thrones, hiring a guy with the experience of writing a few Tv episodes of a filler series with completely average to low ratings.

I should like to see this disclaimer included in the introduction of every future episode of this trash: "In the interest of clarity and to avoid further confusion, we henceforth refer to The Woke of Time TV series by Rafe Judkins. Any similarity to The Wheel of Time book series by Robert Jordan, is purely coincidental. Rafe Judkins apologises unreservedly for accidentally giving the TV series an incorrect and already copyrighted title." Did you notice how the Yin-Yang symbol at the Eye of the World was damaged when Rand did his thing? The very symbol of male and female Aes Sedai had to be destroyed because it was binary...lol. Funny how it survived when they showed Lews Therin fighting there. I pray for this atrocious garbage to be cancelled, and live in hope that somebody somewhere at some point will create a faithful adaptation of the book series.

Lol I struggle with it sometimes because I'll just say "the wheel of time is trash" when I mean the TV show and not the books. And only realise later, people might not realise what I mean by that. So yes some differentiation would be good. Also the Aes Sedai symbol being broken did make sense *SPOILERS* because that was what was made from Cuendillar. Meaning, that symbol was the seal on the dark ones prison. Or at least one of them. I think they wrote this to wrap up the entire plot in 1 series if need be. So that was your open ended entry to season 2. But it looks like rather than small discs being the seals to his prison that can move around. Here they might be fixed locations with huge symbols in the ground that will need to be broken. So that bit at least, I can forgive them as the actual discs were also this. That said, you're probably not wrong about them loving to do it all the same for that reason.

The thing that annoys me the most about all of this is that people who don't read always assume we're just mad that some random character with 2 lines from the books didn't appear on screen for 2 seconds, and that the show itself wasn't 400 hours long. I feel like back when Lord of the Rings and then Harry Potter were becoming huge for mainstream film that's what most non book readers assumed we were whining about. The difference there is that overall Peter Jackson and the writers for the Harry Potter movies tried to cram in as much from the books as possible, mostly changing only what they needed to. The only majorly egregious example is in HP when they took away a lot of Ron's big character moments. Jackson left some big things out but ultimately Tolkien wrote LOTR before a lot of skillsets and conventions of writing had really been developed. Worldbuilding was his priority, so of course Treebeard (not entirely) and Tom Bombadil were set aside. But overall, both adaptations were pretty solid, and good stories in their own right. Hell, even splitting Deathly Hallows into two parts was a really good call. It spawned a bunch of 2 parter young adult abominations that dragged out their story just because Harry Potter split a book into two movies, but Deathly Hallows had a MASSIVE amount of story to work through, and one movie wouldn't have done it justice. Back then, a fan favourite character like Peeves the ghost prankster being left out was all we really had to worry about, and people assume that's the level of crap we're mad about now because these people DON'T FUCKING READ!!! We're pissed off because these shows are written by talentless hacks who deliberately change everything they can from the ground up because they don't want to adapt a story, and after spitting in our face can't even write something at least high quality on its own before demanding our money and then just calling us sexist and racist because that generates a scandal, which generates social media campaigns, which generate more money. It's literally just a bunch of talentless hacks rage baiting people because otherwise they'll get fired when their show inevitably flops. Here's an idea, rather than changing EVERYTHING about an existing story and running it into the ground, maybe... write your own? No? Because that requires effort? D&D players come up with better stories with two hours of work from their fucking living rooms than people hired by billion dollar corporations with YEARS to plan.

Aye, although I assume they wont have Fal Dara in S2 which is why they couldn't have Moiraine bring it back in the first episode there and everything follow on. Everything else could have fit with Fain being there, they could have even had him imprisoned and still tell Perrin what he said. But I do understand they need to condense things, so I'm not too concerned if they bring stuff forwards as long as it fits and doesn't ruin other arcs.

And that box for the Horn!! I'm rereading TGH right now (okay, re-listening to) and the horn was secured in a large box that Fain cannot open - it's so heavy, that Rand has to bring Loial along to carry it when he goes to steal the Horn and Dagger (after admitting to himself that he alone cannot lift it). We don't yet know if Fain can open the box or not, but certainly they are carrying the box around like it weighs nothing

When the 1st 3 eps dropped I will never forget my utter dismay at what I had just watched, or my total confusion when I went and watched the Dusty Wheel and all I heard was praise. I actually rewatched the 1st 3 eps again in case I had imagined how bad it was. I hadn't imagined it and every subsequent episode just got worse. Fast forward to this week when my mate from Scarborough was staying with me and wanted to watch the show. We binge watched the whole thing and I can safely say that no, it doesn't get better on a rewatch..................it's worse, much worse because you pick up on glaring plot holes and ridiculous dialogue that you missed first time round. Lews and the 100 companions acted in sheer desperation since they were losing the war completely. Indeed, both plans were doomed, and they knew it. Hence, LTT last attempt with his "1oo" Companions (+their army) was both desperate and heroic. As Rand/LTT, he does describe himself ad arrogant (once or twice), but they misunderstand why (Both Rafe &.showsworns): it's only because he thought he could do it all alone, sacrificing only himself (or so he thought): it was about them all. That's not at all the arrogance they do imply, as if he truly was an arrogant human being. The cold open of episode 1, Moiraine repeatedly, then now the "Tamyrlin" (🤦🏼‍♀️), they reinforce this idea of his arrogance as his main character trait, a main men character trait, and they slaughter the concept of Saidin-Saidar, by making the men tainting Saidin, not the DO. The use of "filthy" as a first introduction is so wrong from a writing point of view, cause first time viewer are presented with an information, that's what sticks...

There is no doubt in my mind they have not kept 2 halves of the power. Even their animations clearly show the power being clean until the man touches it, then it gets dirty once he connects with it. One remark: you don't believe Moiraine got stilled because it wouldn't make sense. I would say at this point of time having no sense is exactly the point I fully believe that's what happened. No worries though, Nyan or Egw will heal her in no time. Also also, once long ago, in actual world, no magic involved, approx. 300 men held a canyon of roughly Gap's size against the army at least 70k men (that's the most humble estimate). The fact that here Fal Dara's army COULD NOT HELD AGAINST 10k Trollocs, no siege eq, no ranged weapons, no formations, no strategy, just full zombie mode, makes them incredibly pathetic. None of that battle made sense. It looked as they were seeing and fighting their enemy for the first time.

The worst argument I hear is that there isn’t enough time to bring the books truely to the screen. Yet the comments about descriptions being 40% of the books is also used as a reason to change things. A woman’s dress takes 0 seconds to describe if you are already looking at her. Would be interested to know how many hours of dialog and actual events are in the books and we would see how many hours it would take to run the books in real time without the descriptions. They certainly had time for these un necessary cold opens.

@@grayavatar9766 The Eye of the World, done by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer, is just shy of 30 hours in total, but that includes an interview with RJ at the end. One of the issues with removing all the descriptions of stuff is that we lose the internal monologues from the characters. Again, some of that could be handled with actual dialogue or physical acting, but even then you'd likely still have more than 8 hours of just dialogue. I didn't care that some condensing needed to happen. What bothers me much more is the total disregard for really important details and creation of entirely new content (looking at you, episodes 4-6) that, in addition to being stupid, did absolutely nothing to move the plot along.

The book's as written are already progressive with strong female characters but that's not good enough for Amazon they have to change the lore, change the race of the main characters, add underage sex, make warders gay, make Moraine gay Ext. The Dragon Reborn might be a woman, but in WOT, your soul determines your gender, so a man will never be reborn as a woman unless the Dark One transposes your soul. 2. The characters claim that both men and women can use the same parts of the One Power, which is an aspect of the Dark One's True Power.

Desperation because even after Lews Therin agreed to the other plan (of constructing the Choeden Khal), and they made a mess of it and lost the acess keys, the women still refused to entertain his original plan. Even when it was the only plan still viable. No, they expected the keys to somehow magically show up. Lews Therin displayed humbleness, willingness to compromise, to yield to the consensus. He only acted against it when no other option was available. As such, it was not arrogance. It was anything but. It was a sacrifice. A desoerate gamble, that half-worked. Angreal and Sa'angreal are more like Power Transformers, for reference think of those big honking blocks that can be seen in some electronics that allow the device to pull more power from the mains without the device exploding. Every Aes Sedai has an upper range for themselves on what they can and cannot pull from the One Power, an Angreal acts as a conduit through which they pull the One Power through and that item is the upper limit, same with a Sa'angreal as it is orders of magnitude greater than the first, which means they pull through the item than themselves. It's why a Circle is similar to it and before Brandon got involved was also safe to pull through as the link isn't pulling from one person but multiple and feeding back through each one, with only one controlling the flows.

The reviews started off more complimentary, but the show was also more like the books in the initial episodes too. We saw one consistent thing through the whole series, any time they thought they knew better than the books, we got something far far worse and generally awful. The good scenes were either those which were at least remotely like the source material, or showed a scene that was briefly mentioned in the books but never described.

I believe that shielded is a similar thing. You can reach towards it but you hit a barrier and can't get past it. And as it's the male half of the source she shouldnt be able to detect it as there either. We don't know if the Aes Sedai even know what a male shield looks like, as the previous male channelers may not know how to shield in this weird universe that isn't canon. We'd know if they stuck to the lore.

@@disparutoo Trying to avoid spoilers, for other people who might read this... There's a point when Rand and... are in a box... and he's picking at knots of a tied-off shield... which was made by women. IIRC, he couldn't SEE the shield/knots, but he could FEEL them. Ergo, Moiraine ought to be able to feel something blocking her... sort of like a glass window separating her... she can't "see" the "glass"... but she could feel it. *IF* this great big steaming stinking pile was following the books, the description ought to be that of being stilled... IIRC, the words "The Dark One" used were lifted straight from the book to describe stilling. OTOH, the "tying" gesture he used would seem to indicate a tied off shield... and it's exactly the kind of pointless misdirection, "mystery", that stupid eff-wad running the show would think is "genius". Another reason I *think* she was stilled... It gives a certain someone the opportunity/excuse to do something she did in the books for someone(s) else. Of course, they might decide to give it to Egwene and her magical tears, too...

There are so many odd scenes, cuts and edits. There are lines which are dubbed over, in episode 7 in the bar Egwene even covers her mouth with the drink and says something she didn't say, and the start of it it's not even her voice! they got someone else to say it. It's even funnier when you realize that the "we need both light and dark for balance" is not even the original Jedi way according to Lucas, but a modern misunderstanding of what the balance meant. Lucas's view of the issue was that the dark side was sort of like a cancer or a corruption on the Force and a balance meant that there was no dark side disrupting what was already good and healthy by itself. The people in control nowadays, however, misunderstood it and think that that the jedi wanted literally a 1:1 ratio of good and evil, which makes no sense whatsoever. The people making WoT are imitating something that already misunderstood the core concept of their mythology, it's like a game of telephone where even the first one didn't understand what they were doing.

Lans line only makes sense when you have all the supporting lore about him being wed to his life mission to fight the dark. That he is basically committed to dying for that mission and doesnt want to marry and saddle any woman with that burden. That NOT doing so is just another sacrifice for him to save them. Rather than it being about how amazing the woman is. It made no sense here because Rafe turned Nynaeve into a one night stand.

Moiraine wasn't emotionless, she was willing to do what was necessary to stop the dark one, but she wouldn't inflict suffering if it was not necessary. She wouldn't have wanted to kill Rand if there was another choice. But you're right, to be sure, she probably SHOULD have done. In fact as the dark one had set up 2 possibilities for Rand, BOTH of which made him win. Killing Rand would have been Moiraines only chance to stop him. Of course, as we find out later in the books that would also doom the earth as it's not the last battle and now you just ended the dragon reborn. But it depends on what timescale we are looking at this decision making.

They ended it at a point where you could in theory just wipe all that, act like it never really happened and just continue with the books from the start of book two with some changes, loails fine etc. But that would require an ENTIRELY different staff from the top down. i've come across a show theory and i came back to put it here for your consideration because i think it's bang on the money: remember how the show says Nynaeve isn't from the two rivers? they say she was brought in as a small child and there's no elaboration after that. the theory is that Lews Therins baby in this episode's opening scene IS Nynaeve. that she was saved from him and stuffed into a stasis box where she stays for 3000 years until someone finds and opens the box. this would fulfill Suane's Dreaming of a "multi-headed dragon". it would provide a (weak) reason that she can channel so well with no training. and it would give the show-runners a female dragon to play with like they wanted from the very beginning. Nynaeve is the "Dragon's Daughter".

@disparutoo
@disparutoo 3 жыл бұрын
That would make the most sense, and might be their post hoc rationalisation they'll use. But doesn't explain why they broke into the treasure room, and THEN came up to get the box. I have a different theory. Originally I think Mat brought the dagger to Fal Dara and that was put in the treasure room which is why Fain broke in there. I also think these scenes were already filmed, so they were included, even though now there is nothing in there to take unless the dagger magically teleports there. But after release and people point out the plot holes they might try to quickly explain it away via something like you've said. And then say Fain broke into the treasure room looking for the horn and realised it wasn't there. Even though that'll make him seem like a fool who accidentally stumbled across it after they dug it up?

FYI about circles, no nobody but the circle leader can burn out. The circle members also cannot give more power to the leader, they give the exact amount of power they can handle which is usually less than their maximum when channeling solo. (Like 70%ish) The leader cannot ask them for more power and they cant be forced to channel enough to burn out.
