Great video, i enjoy watching you Channel you give knowledge of working with all kinds of things. '' Two Thumbs Up Big man. STEVE I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT ORWELL. I've been watching this channel long enough to say that oneday you would paint the rims after this cold,salt & grime stuff would clear up but we will slide this year weather has been Hell. Love the name BoneCrusher! I can’t wait for those wheels to be painted as well hahahah. I’m 30 years old right now, I have been a Journeyman Lineman for 10 years but have always had a dream of being an O/O, may sound silly but I remember as a kid going on road-trips to see my Grandparents as a kid I saw Cab overs all the time, those trucks were the ones that caught my eye, so I bought one, been working on her with my son trying to get her ready, hopefully I can work hard out there and become successful, always looked up to the truckers and wish I could talk with a few that are willing that are around me but it seems they are few and far between because of all the steering wheel holders that have no respect for the heavy rigs they drive or the lives around them 🤷. I love the old school trucks and the drivers who drove them because y’all were the “professional drivers!” Anyways I’ll stop typing a paragraph here hahah but thanks for your time out on the road bud and hope ya have a good weekend!

Steve you can run aluminum outer tires while running steel rims with older stud pilot tires. All you would need to change is the inner tire nut to the longer one. I ran an 88 Peterbilt with outer aluminum rims that way.
@haroldbenton979
@haroldbenton979 2 жыл бұрын
You hand torque 20 lug nuts to 500 ft lbs and see how winded you're afterwards. I pulled wrenches on semi trucks plus drove them for a farmer and trust me I respected everyone in the freaking shop. Why when it's 20 below you're battling frozen brakes with a hammer and flares to thaw them out.
@jonathanwilliams4501
@jonathanwilliams4501 2 жыл бұрын
But the stud has to be longer so the aluminum wheel isn’t just riding on the empty center of the inner nut, it needs support inside, or they will crack or break the whole wheel and rim off...

Steve I have change way to many brakes in the past. Next time with the shoe on the floor set the large spring with rollers in shoes for s-cam then swing top shoe first followed by lower. Next using vise grips on the two spring at anchor pins, prying vise grips using long pry bar off axle tube.

Worked in a large local parts house. We sold pass car/ light/ med/ truck parts and popular parts for heavy trucks. I've turned thousands of light drums and rotors and lots and lots of trailer drums. Relined shoes. "Back then, 70's into the 90's we sold CR, Victor, National, Stemco seals, Timken bearings and others I hate the "now" modern world. Our manager rebuilt brake cans. We had a big piece of a spring brake "dynamiter" can that had imbedded in the door some feet from the press. I'm 73

I had the ultimate failure in a parking brake system. The fitting on the parking brake chamber blew off while moving at 45 mph. The accident that resulted from it killed someone coming the other way. The accident reconstruction team said it was a 1 in a trillion chance of that ever happening again.

Question would putting some Red Loctite help those two nuts from coming lose? That's a shame on the axle cap the blue paint got beat with the hammer and all those paint chips. Could have covered it when hitting it to loosen it lol who cares right it's just a old beat up work Truck as you always say.... Soon it won't be worth fixing it awesome video...

Try using a big adjustable wrench and put it on the lower brake shoe and backing plate to use as a lever to put the lower wheel cylinder in place. It takes seconds.

A man who definitely ate his Wheaties this day. Torquing 500# lug nuts is tough. One thing that concerns me and I've noticed this on a few of the videos. The huffing, puffing and shortness of breath may indicate some health issues. Get that checked out with your doctor. You're much too young to be experiencing this even though the work you are doing is strenuous.

Fore the first time never seen what the inside the break chamber look like. That is why you don't play around with pressure the chambers or you will have a huge rocket in your hands. Was the whole chassis colored in blue?.. looking at the leaf spring it looks like it was when the dirt and grease are cleaned off. I bet Orwell was a show truck.

Don't you love how thin the new brake linning is 30 + years ago when I done this on the one's I drove the shoes were 3/4" -1" thick now your new shoes are maybe little over 1/2" took the truck in im driving now to have the brakes lined guy said you got plenty left I said well I've put 185000 miles on the factory ones and it want stop when loaded heavy he went in back got new set said well look I said sh_t where's the rest of the pad part of the shoe he said that's all you get now a day's pay twice price for half the shoe pads unreal I said he said welcome to the screw you truck owners of today I said well I don't own it but that's bull Sh-t for sure he just laughed said sign and pay at the desk on the way out time they got done was $ 1254.00 but it had to have 2 drums also but hauling heavy in the Wv. - Va. mountain's it steep to get to coal prep plants also the other 14 states I run its just part of the game these day's but glad you take and show how hard it is sometimes to fix stuff on these trucks I'm with a company now I just stop at shop and say fix it my back and knees can't take the hard physical working on them anymore just went Tuesday had 2 nerve block's done on my back so I'm about done with trucking well the body is the mind says your not that old wrong but part of getting older I guess but stay safe and keep the video's coming

Let a old man tell you what seal to use on every axle seal. It is the Stemco leather with wear ring. They will run 3 times longer than these turn inside themselves seals. The kind you are using just will not hold up in the real world. I'm 75 and have been a truck mechanic for over 50 years. I found out nothing and I mean nothing will work better than the leather Stemco. You should use the right tools to install them but you don't have too.
