I hate heights, and can think of two times in my life when I've fallen/jumped from quite a high height. Once about twenty years ago when indoor rock climbing. It must have been at least five metres, and the guy at the bottom caught me just before I hit the padding. But there was a rope on the inside of my elbow, which slid along my skin the whole way down, causing a rather nasty rope burn! I've not been since. The other time was a few years later, jumping of a boat in the South China sea with my brothers. It was probably slightly higher than the climbing fall. My brothers were loving it, but I was terrified. After two or three goes, I agreed to do one final jump with them. Unfortunately, whilst flailing my arms in the air, my shoulder felt like it was popping out - had I been on solid ground, I'm sure I could have just wiggled it a bit and that would have been it. Instead, as I hit the water, I dislocated my shoulder. And about two weeks before, I'd damaged some of the muscles in the other shoulder diving in goal during a game of football! Several years later, and both shoulders are still not completely better, especially the one I dislocated. So, I'd say it's definitely dangerous! Not to mention terrifying!

Why can't you just have a slide that goes down the back of the wall? That would be so much safer and way more fun.
@dialecticalmonist34054 жыл бұрын
A slide is very expensive. But they could have some fire escape like thing.
@danielmcdonald103 жыл бұрын
How about a simple slide into the pool from the top? Did they seriously not build a way down?

If the climber on the left side took less time breaking (chalking her hands) she might add enough energies to finish but she took way too much time hanging which that exhausted her hands . Bad strategy she clearly add the technics to do it.

She was not just chalking her hands, she was also shaking out lactic acid that had accumulated in her arms. Lactic acid affects your ability to concentrate, apply force, and execute movement. Not a bad strategy a necessary one, used by every strong climber.

She has too much weight in this sport. Unfortunately. It would be easier to take a ten kilos lighter body up. Now these extra kilograms steals energy in every single effort. I emphasize that too much weight for this sport. After all, it's a mathematical fact. every single effort. And I emphasize that too much weight for this sport

How is it possible that such a structure doesn't have a staircase to go up and down safely?

@MrBrachiatingApe5 жыл бұрын
...I'm not a climber, but exactly how many times does one need to chalk one's hand before grabbing something? I saw Emily Harrington seriously chalk right-left-right-left-right-left (grabbing at handholds in between but not actually moving) shake off excess chalk right-left-move. Completely serious question here: do you really need that much chalk?

This was me at the top of a wall having the gym instructor, my friend, and some random dude all saying "just let go, the rope will support you!" Hell no! Lol Some of us just have this instinct to cling.

I felt so bad for her when she didn't want to jump, like couldn't of they put like stairs if you make it to the top cause if you fall it goes so fast that you can't do anything. but if you make it to the top then it's really hard for you to make that jump. And she's only 13 but wow is she impressive when shes rock climbing

The people in this comment section are way too uninformed. There was a stair behind the top. Also, there's machines making waves in the water to massively reduce surface tension, making the fall rather safe. You can actually see their effect in the video. Lastly, to free solo above water is the whole point of this competition. There are tons of other climbing competitions with ropes, this here is however is without. Everyone who participates knows what they're getting into. And if the commentator urges her to jump it's because he knows it's inevitable and he knows that there are other participants who want to go next.
