The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 - September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

I don't watch wheelchair tennis but when I see those guys I always remember when Djokovic tried playing in wheelchair once as a part of some exhibition and realized how tough it is to be able to even move, let alone fly over the court and hit the ball. These people are true champions and they are athletic as every other athlete even tho they are partly disabled👏🙌

Djokovic / Federer / Nadal, all the same in this context. What I meant is that it’s a player that’s super high skilled and well respected by everyone

The last time I watched wheelchair tennis, letting the ball bounce twice was the norm. Now, Kunieda is taking everything after a single bounce and it's akin to taking the ball on the rise. No wonder he's almost unbeatable!

This looks difficult to do. Incredible shots too! Even two bounces look tiring to get to. It is somehow inspiring just to watch their game and determination on the court. WIll have to watch more wheelchair tennis. Looks just as fun as all the others.

Can someone help me out. What's the difference between shingo kunieda and Dylan Alcott when it comes to tennis? I see both are world number 1. Are they in different classes of wheelchair tennis?
@rdb2011able
@rdb2011able 3 жыл бұрын
Kunieda is a para player and Alcott is a quad player, meaning that Alcott's paralysis is higher & therefore his physical ability is more restrictive. Para's injury is a lower spinal cord injury. It doesn't always hold true, there could be other restrictions not noted in this explain nationation.

ive never watched wheelchair tennis before...im shocked at what I'm seeing. I thought bisecting angles in regular tennis was hard enough, but these guys have to factor in momentum and turn rates...
