Its a show so most of they must cutt corners. Mostly the early seasons in the UK and the USA. In an early WD USA episode where they do that Ford Bronco you can see spots of a horrible paint job on the top of the doors where the windows go in.

@graham: Well, it depends on the car. And on the owner even more so. I wouldn't say that WD cars lasted a short time only after they were being sold. It literally varies case by case and I definetly would not blame Wheeler Dealers for it. There are buyers of these cars who didn't take care of them. And the Ford Capri in any case is a very bad car, one of the worst cars in history. And ugly.

They buyers and sellers were fake. Mike doesn't source or buy the cars. Quite a few of my friends have appeared on the show, buying or selling the cars I know of 1 car that got sold by a 3rd party that came back with a threat of suing the show. The money was paid back, and the car went to scrap.

You touched on the Capri sale. The Porsche 928 sale was also staged. I personally know the "buyer" and I knew he didn't own a Porsche 928. I reached out to him when I first saw the episode and he confirmed that the sale was staged. He knew Mike Brewer and the (then) production team as he's a motoring journalist by trade. As you've said this is because there are time constraints when making TV programmes so it is inevitable that some sales have to be staged to get episodes completed within certain timeframes.
@legioner9 Жыл бұрын
I like how you narrate and how you present the background story and the prices ... I always react with "Oh my God, what prices there used to be". Them cars were laugheably cheap, and it is in a way hilarious how Mike achieved even smaller prices after bargaining with the sellers 😂😂. Mike and Ed were definetly visionaries with creating Wheeler Dealers and Mike choosing the specific cars also.

Hi Oscar, entertaining channel, I've just subscribed. A bit of info for everyone, a lot may know, some may not. Edd China started his own KZbin channel, Workshop Diaries, about a year ago. It promised big things but now seems to be mysteriously dead and has been for many months. Edd has nearly 1 million subscribers and has not had the decency to put up any posts as to why. Paul Brackley was the main mechanic behind Wheeler Dealers and actually did more work on the cars than Edd, or at least as much, most of it off camera. He turned up on the last episodes of Workshop Diaries and actually said that the whole buying process is fake. Paul was the one who went to look at the cars before Mike Brewer turns up with all the crew. I'm afraid all the TV car programs, including Car SOS are fake to some degree. I personally know someone who was involved with one of the Car SOS projects, and when the car was handed back to the owner it was a non-runner, it had to be filmed with the owner driving it many weeks later. Also, if anyone remembers the Wheeler Dealers Volvo P1800S, that car ended up at a garage in Rochdale who did some work on my son's car. They restore mainly E types and other rare Jags, but it was in a terrible state, almost scrap. You might be able to find that one Oscar, as some poor sod was going to sink a load of money into it.

Oscar,from what Ive managed to gather,more often than not,an actor would stand in for a new buyer,but many times the purchase price would be correct.Also Paul Buckley would generally be in charge of the selling of the cars.Also on occasion,the seller on screen would also be an actor.And then there's the story of the XR2,which Mike crashed into the back of the camera car during the test drive,hence the broken spotlight and bent bumper (which werent damaged in the ad he found it on)

Hello Oscar, I'd like to apologise for spreading misinformation on the 205. Back in 2011 to 2012 the 205 arrived at a JLR dealership for a service where a friend of mine was a master tech. He informed me it was the wheeler dealers 205 so at the time (being a huge WD fan) I was desperate to buy it. I tried getting in contact with the owner at the time. I guess I got a little bit too persistent as I was constantly asking my mate if he's got in contact with the owner as I wanted to buy it. Either out of jealousy or I just annoyed him that much. He made up a story that the car was stolen and he was in hospital so he couldn't get in contact with him hoping thay it would deter me from wanting it... I even asked if I could speak to the owner and offered to help him restore it... To find out it was never stolen or crashed... From what I heard the car was sold shortly after.
@ronanmc2112 Жыл бұрын
KZbin keeps deleting this for some reason. Might as well try once more. The 928 was sold into the Republic of Ireland and eventually bought back by Mike. The BMW 840i was also sold into Ireland. A poster on the motors section of the Irish forum Boards bought it. He sold it on quickly as he wanted a 850i. Not sure where it is now. Never saw the Irish reg for it so can’t track it here. The VW transporter builders van that Edd wrapped and bought was on Twitter in about 2013. It had gone on fire on the way to the beach, sadly. Love the videos and idea for the series.

I can't really say I am surprised as the the whole sales being fake thing. Earlier on before seeing all the rumors I had a hard time believing that everyone would be willing to go on the camera buying/selling a car. I know many people barely like to have any further interaction than necessary. After the rumors, it kind of made sense. It's similar in the way of that to the game of Car Mechanic Simulator. It's merely showing you what *could* be. It's like showing you a cake with the recipe but not all the portions. There are many KZbinrs nowadays doing similar stuff with hours on hours of footage for just one 30 minute episode.... and they don't have to keep ratings up on the telly! Even with the buying/selling and sourcing of vehicles being fakes the show still has inspired many. It's got a lovely charm to it in the earlier seasons not much reproduce. As far as the point many make about cheap parts and labor etc.... that isn't too unrealistic. Knowing the right people definitely gets you ahead. Also, economy is much worse at least in the states now. Material prices have gone much farther up, so has labor. It's hard to imagine anyone giving you a deal on a paintjob now due to the substantial loss potentially associated. Thanks for the videos! You've earned a new subscriber. I myself was doing a bit of a dig, but browsing old forums can be rather tiresome and time-consuming. Nice to have these quick little videos that sum them up well. Also, for any of the cars that DID make it out, I believe some ended up on IMCDB as well, there are many individual history buffs in a lot of the threads on that site that have managed to dig up info. Looking forward to the next one!

Some more info from the archives Toyota MR2 Indeed I knew a lot about this one already. The boys took on a MR2 needing some attention, or rather a lot as later owners went on to find out! I was speaking to its last owner a couple of years back, it was just far too gone to be worth restoring so he used the parts to fix up his other MR2 mk1's Water had been leaking in for over a year, floor rotten and interior ruined! The car had 13 owners before its death, no scrap marker but it is confirmed scrapped by Paul (it's final owner) in 2013/2014 I believe it was so that'll do it for us! I did have some photos of it when it was being broken up but not sure if they're on my old laptop, my Grandads laptop or my old phone. MOT expired August 2012, it went back again in September but failed on corrosion and a few other stuff. Mileage was 138,000 before it met it's fate Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI Another one with a similar fate to the above. Mike and Edd took on another hot hatch hero, this time it was a 205 GTI! Info taken from the 205 owners club potentially suggests another death. Mot expired in April 2012. It went on a sorn and is believed that Baz (the last owner) broke it up for spares after a planned restoration turned out to show it was a complete an utter dog of a car! Believed to have been stripped and weighed in, no scrap marker and still on a sorn so not confirming anything as of now.
