I remember Hammond being an absolute beast, but I had no idea Craig Anderson was riding on an insane .927 SV% for that season. One of the most underrated goalies of his generation

I remember as an Oilers fan when Anderson shut us out after returning from being with his wife who had cancer. We had so many chances but Craig was a wall. He got all 3 stars that game and deserved it. An absolute beauty

He’s one of the top playoff sv% goalies. The 2017/18 implosion is probably the weirdest result of a super team. Built to win a cup, but the locker room killed the team.

Even in what his 40's? On a terrible sabres team he was often a bright spot and won that team games they had absolutely no business being in. Seemed like the dad for that young core that now seems promising. Youre right. If the sens retired 25 chris neil do you think they do 41 andy?

I remember this season well. I broke my leg in February right around the time the Hamburglar run started, so I was couch ridden the entire time and got to witness it. It was crazy. It got to a point that it didn't matter what the score was, you just knew the Sens would somehow get the win. It was truly magical.

I remember Hammond actually being pretty good in those 4 games with Montreal in 2021-2022. They brought him it because both Price and Allen were injured and the two games I recall he played was a win in his return to Ottawa where he got an ovation from the crowd and stood on his head for I believe a 2-1 win. He also won a game in Calgary. In what was such a miserable season for Montreal I remember him being a bit of a bright spot. I could have sworn he played more than 4 games.
@CarolinaBuckrush
@CarolinaBuckrush 4 ай бұрын
I looked at his NHL page. He played 4 games with the Habs the 2021-2022 season and won 3 games but it doesn’t say what the fourth result was so it is very likely he didn’t start or he didn’t finish that game. He put up a 2.40 AAV and had a save percentage of .920.
@jp4477

I remember this as well. One of the few rays of hope in an absolutely miserable year. His first was a shootout win against the Islanders, and then the Ottawa game. He came in on mop up duty during a loss against Winnipeg (our only one during an 8 game stretch). He suffered the ankle injury during that Flames win (5-4 in OT) that pretty much ended his career in the long run. Adding insult to injury is they just started lifting some of the attendance restrictions at the Bell Centre during this period, but all of his games were on the road. He never got the chance to play in front of the home crowd. Further proving we weren't allowed to have anything nice that season.

Anyone else remember the run from Brian Elliott in his first year with the Blues? In his first 4 years of his career he was a .901 goalie, moves to the Blues and has a .940 in 38 games, 9 (!!!) shutouts and saved 26 goals above expected. One of the best runs from a goalie I've ever seen.

Hammond parlaying that run into 3+ mil on a 3 year contract, and then some other NHL playing time afterwards was the best outcome for him. Even if he didn't achieve more as a professional, he set himself up for life (if he was financially smart) and became a legend.

The Devils were no where near the playoffs but the Hamburgler returned to his 2015 form in 2022 when Vegas played the Devils in a critical game for Vegas. Hammond owned the VGK’s shooters stopping 42/44 and the Knights lost out on 2 points that would of clinched them a playoff spot.

I don't think Hammond's lesser numbers in his second season had anything to do with him personally. I think Ottawa has to be taken to task more for how much they screwed over both Hammond and Mike Condon in giving them no support up front and then dumping them back into the minors. Ottawa has just always been a dysfunctional team it seems. Anytime Hammond was called back up he played solidly, nearly led the Avalanche to the second round of the playoffs in 2018, and was great for the Habs in spot starts. He was an amazing bright spot in an otherwise completely dim 2021-22 season. He was traded to New Jersey so he could get more NHL's starts as St. Louis had no room for him, and he was one of 8 or so goalies who suited up for the Devils that season. A 4.02 was good for that Devils team.
