The rebbe was not saying its fine. He was simply saying that difficulty keeping one mitzvah should not prevent a person from keeping others.

@@yehoshuacirt8645I wrote it because the comments here seemed to miss the point. At the same time, the Rebbes response does seem to be very interesting. To me the important question would be, would be say the same thing to a frum person who was homosexual, or was this basically the same way you would tell a non frum person who felt any specific mitzvah was too hard that she should just start somewhere and see how far they can go. It would make a big difference.

@@justincase7848 It is said here in Israel. Many condemn the act while supporting the Jew, a similar attitude to any other disorder.

@@yehoshuacirt8645how exactly could it be compared to any other disorder? Let's say someone has OCD and repeats shem hashem unnecessarily. They are an annus because its compulsive. Or let's say someone has an eating disorder and is so starving that they eat trief. I would assume they are considered an annus because they aren't really in control of their behavior. Homosexuality is not compulsive. A person is not an annus in terms of how they express their desires. Technically a person could remain celibate. That's definitely not a happy life! But I don't see how homosexuality could be compared to mental illness in terms of being annus. It's a desire.

What is a mitzvah?
@kennethzeitzer4390
@kennethzeitzer4390 17 күн бұрын
A mitzvah is a religious commandment. It may be ritual (such as fasting on Yom Kippur). It may be ethical (such as do not steal), etc. Those are also examples of positive and negative commandments, respectively.

Homosexual behavior is indeed a major problem, says the Rebbe. It's an awful behavior. BUT it's no excuse for neglecting the various duties you have as a Jew. Hang in there.

Surely the rebbe's message is not the message of the Torah; the Torah says regarding the homosexual act, Vayikra 20:13 Mos Yumasu, they shall surely die. Refraining from homosexual activity is one of the central Torah commandments upon which the entire Jewish faith is based; it is one of the arayot (sexual sins), and it is one of the Noahide laws that applies to Jews and Gentiles alike. The rebbe chose a very avoidant, non-confrontational answer because by nature he was not a fighter. That doesn't make the rebbe's approach correct.

Wrong!!! The Rebbe, just like Rav Nachman and all the tzadikim DID NOT choose an "avoidant non-confrontational answer". The answer is Torah. I'm not a Chabadnik but I know that the Rebbe stated a basic principle in עבודת השם: It's never an all or nothing thing. Being a sinner DOES NOT excuse you from keeping the Mitzvot. But DO WHAT YOU CAN under the circumstances. Don't let the yetzer hara win the war. Never despair of yourself. אין ייאוש בעולם כלל.

@@Y0S3F Karet is NOT an excuse to neglect all the Mitzvot. A Jew can say ideally, "HaShem! I don't want your rewards. I don't want your world to come. I want YOU". תשובה can be done. A Jew should NEVER let go. Are you implying that he need not daven!? That he is free from teffilin and lulav?! That he can ignore kashrut?

@@yehoshuacirt8645 Sins that require misa/death are worse than karet/excision. A person who has done something that makes them culpable for death should continue to try to do mitzvos or at least be a decent person, so they can live out their life peacefully in this world. But at that point that they decided to do such a grave sin, they've already forfeited their portion in the world to come. The double loshon of Mos Yumas means their death is final. In fact, even by karet/excision, there's an opinion of the Rambam in the Mishneh Torah, that even one who dies and is chayev karet/excision has forfeited their portion of the world to come. Actually, in my humble opinion, I think the Torah explicitly says that a person culpable of karet/ excision loses his status as a Jew. But since non-jews can have a portion in the world to come, so too can a Jew who is culpable for karet/excision. However, a person who is culpable for death, which is even more serious than karet/excision, cannot have a portion in the world to come.

The Rebbe cites a basic truth here. Rabbi Nachman of Breslev says this also, many times: Even a little good is good. Living Jewish is never all or nothing. Living Jewish is an upward battle. Stick it out as happily as you can and that's FANTASTIC because you are cleaving to the G-d of Israel according to your ability at this time.. Try to encourage others with this truth: No mitzvah is lost--hang in there. Shalom from Israel.

I think #3 is both profound wisdom and common sense. No-one is perfect but to surrender to all bad things just because of a few imperfections is crazy. We should all do our best, every day and in doing that, we make the world a better place for everyone. I am reminded of the rabbi who was asked why Hashem made atheists. He answered that whilst others might do good because they seek divine reward or to avoid divine punishment, atheists do good simply because it is in their nature. He said we should all be like atheists in this regard.

I am Jewish . I love being Jewish. It is because of this Joy that I feel . I try to bring joy to others I might meet . Example . Like going up to a person working in a grocery store. I would tell them thank you for all you do. The person then smiles because then they know what they are doing does matter. To many times we will ignore the people working in stores unless we need help to find something. Instead of walking past them see them tell them thank you . Everyone needs to know that they matter. And a thank you or even a simple hello can make a person feel better.

@@MindelM 100%. There is a saying that a smile goes around the world. If I smile at a stranger, it might lift his spirit and so he smiles at someone else etc. I too always treat people in customer-facing jobs with respect and kindness. Many years ago, as a young man, I did such a job myself and I know how most people either ignore them or feel it's ok to be rude to them. Good manners and kindness cost nothing.
